Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 474: The Argument

Chapter 474: The Argument

But it was precisely that word, "husband," that made Damien Sterling even more certain that Riley Turner was not his wife—or at least not the woman he loved. Hearing those two words come out of her mouth sent a shiver down his spine. If you truly love someone, hearing such an intimate term should bring comfort.

"It looks like you’re busy. I’ll be going now," Emma Hart said, trying to hide the discomfort she felt. Seeing another woman holding the hand of the man she loved most, and calling him so affectionately, was unbearable.

"Sit down, let’s have a proper talk," Damien Sterling said softly to Emma Hart, a stark contrast to his earlier coldness.

Meanwhile, Riley Turner felt a surge of anger rising in her chest. What exactly had Emma Hart done to make Damien Sterling so infatuated with her? Jealousy and vanity erupted from within her. No matter how much they had loved each other in the past, Damien Sterling had now lost his memory and forgotten about her. She had believed that all her efforts would finally be rewarded at this moment, but it seemed she was wrong.

If she hadn’t had someone keeping an eye on Damien Sterling at all times, she wouldn’t have known that the two of them were meeting here in secret.

Riley Turner’s eyes were filled with rage as she struggled to regain control. "Are you really not planning to come back? I’m your wife. How do you think this makes me feel? Where does this leave me?" she said, almost in tears, choking on her words as she looked at Damien Sterling.

But seeing her tear-streaked face didn’t evoke any pity in Damien Sterling. Instead, he found it somewhat fake.

"I told you, we’ll talk about your issues later. If you keep this up, you might as well leave now," Damien Sterling said, his frustration growing. When he was angry, he always had a habit of furrowing his brow, a look that never seemed to relax.

His sudden outburst sent a jolt of fear through Riley Turner. She began to wonder if he had remembered everything from the past. This violent and frightening side of him was just like the old Damien Sterling.

If that were the case, it would be terrifying. She couldn’t predict how he might retaliate against her. If Damien Sterling knew she had tried to push Emma Hart out and take her place as his wife, he certainly wouldn’t forgive her.

But watching the polite distance between him and Emma Hart, it didn’t seem like he had regained his memories.

Riley Turner was aware of the saying, "Human nature is immutable," so Damien Sterling’s current behavior could be explained. When someone touches a nerve deep within him, making him feel displeased, he would still show no mercy. Therefore, she was sure he hadn’t found his former self.

Emma Hart, surprisingly, felt a bit of satisfaction. The panic on Riley Turner’s face brought a small comfort to her fragile heart, proving that Damien Sterling hadn’t been completely bewitched by Riley Turner. There was still love deep within him.

For the first time, Emma Hart felt a bit like a petty person, considering that she and Riley Turner had shared some level of friendship before. But now, Riley Turner was trying to take away the man she loved the most.

Riley Turner, your ruthlessness has clearly drawn the line between us. Since that’s the case, Emma Hart no longer had to hold back.

"Since your husband wants to have a word with me, why don’t you go along with it? Don’t you love him?" Emma Hart said, now seeming to gain confidence—the kind of confidence that came from Damien Sterling’s attitude, even if it was unspoken.

Riley Turner was taken aback, hardly believing that such words had come from Emma Hart.

"Emma Hart, tell me, what have you done? Can’t you just leave him alone? Do you think he hasn’t suffered enough?" At this moment, Riley Turner had completely lost her composure. She marched right up to Emma Hart and demanded answers.

When a woman loses control, she’s willing to let go of all pride and dignity, ready to fight with everything she’s got.

Emma Hart wasn’t about to back down either. She glared at Riley Turner, her anger boiling over.

"Just because you’re his wife, does that give you the right to take away his freedom to have friends? He’s not your possession; he’s a free man. And judging by the way things look today, it doesn’t seem like you just happened to be here. Don’t tell me you’ve been childish enough to have someone follow him around?" Emma Hart shot a disdainful glance at the driver standing by the coffee shop’s entrance.

Riley Turner felt like she’d been stabbed in the heart. She hadn’t expected Emma Hart to gain confidence so quickly. But she had no comeback.

Damien Sterling watched their argument in silence. Neither of these women was easy to deal with, but Emma Hart seemed to have the upper hand. Having spent time with Riley Turner recently, he could tell she was a very proud and self-respecting woman, but now she was being forced into silence—perhaps because she had something to hide.

Only those with something to fear are afraid of being provoked.

"I... I don’t want to waste any more words on you," Riley Turner muttered, seemingly on the verge of fleeing in embarrassment.

But Damien Sterling was furious. His eyes locked onto Riley Turner with a fierce intensity. "Tell me, is it true? Did you have someone spying on me?"

His terrifyingly cold tone made Riley Turner shudder, but Emma Hart remained calm, having seen this side of him before. Watching the man she cared about being deceived by another woman pained her deeply, so at this moment, she felt that Riley Turner deserved what was coming.

Riley Turner stammered, unable to find the words. Pretending to be Damien Sterling’s wife had always been a risky game. While she had been clever in her deceitful actions, this time she was trying to fool someone far sharper than herself, and there was no way she could remain calm.

"Can we talk about this at home?" Riley Turner finally managed to plead after a long pause.

Damien Sterling’s expression returned to a cold indifference, his lips curving into what might have been a bitter smile, though it was hard to tell.

"Let me answer that for you. Ever since I woke up after the accident, you’ve had people tracking my every move, no matter where I go. Did you think I didn’t notice?" Damien Sterling accused, stepping closer to Riley Turner with each word. "I’m a man, not your puppet. What gives you the right to spy on me? Just for that alone, you’re unworthy of being my wife."

Riley Turner’s heart trembled violently. "Let me explain..."

"Explain? What’s there to explain? The evidence is undeniable," Damien Sterling retorted.

Riley Turner nearly broke down in tears. "I did it for your own good. Ever since you were discharged, I’ve been terrified that something else might happen to you. Do you have any idea how much I suffered while you were in a coma? I was by your bedside every day, asking the nurses, asking the doctors when you might wake up. What did I do wrong? I just love you too much, I care about you too much."

All the words she had held back for so long came pouring out in that instant.

Emma Hart watched from the sidelines. Not everything Riley Turner said was a lie—she had genuinely been worried that Damien Sterling might never wake up. Her love had always been humble, but the way she loved was wrong.

True love doesn’t allow for deceit.
