Chapter 439: Inspection (2)
"I see. Yes, I remember you two had met before. This girl came with Mr. Turner to Sterling Group for business talks, right? I have a good impression of her. She’s diligent and very enthusiastic. I think she has great potential," Lucy Allen said warmly, clearly holding Riley Turner in high regard. But why did Amelia Davidson call her a ’white lotus’?
"Ah, I see. That’s good to hear," Emma Hart responded casually.
The two fell silent again, with only the sounds of birds chirping and the clacking of high heels in the background.
All the management trainees they passed greeted Lucy Allen politely. Since no one recognized Emma Hart, she was naturally overlooked.
"Emma Hart!" A deep, raspy male voice came from ahead.
Damian Sterling and Assistant Lee were walking toward the villa complex.
"Damian, are you done with your business?" Emma Hart asked.
Damian Sterling nodded silently, his eyes on Lucy Allen beside Emma Hart. "Why are you two together?" he asked.
"I was getting bored in the room, felt fine, so I went out for a walk and bumped into Director Allen." Emma Hart explained.
"Mr. Sterling," Lucy Allen nodded to Damian Sterling.
"It’s getting late; we should go eat. Lucy Allen, join us," Damian Sterling said, turning around and heading towards the restaurant with Assistant Lee, followed by Emma Hart and Lucy Allen.
"The restaurant? Aren’t we eating at the cabin this time?" Emma Hart asked, still craving the roast chicken from there. Just thinking about it made her mouth water.
"It needs some renovations, so we changed the location," Damian Sterling answered, leading Emma Hart and Lucy Allen to the new restaurant.
The new restaurant was not far from the villa complex, just a five-minute walk. The decor was simple, reminiscent of a countryside inn, with a strong pastoral vibe.
Inside, it was bustling, filled with the familiar sounds of children playing. Emma Hart had a feeling she would soon see those adorable kids again.
As soon as they stepped through the door, two very enthusiastic waiters led them to a private room on the second floor.
In the main hall on the first floor, the children were running around, while women drank afternoon tea or prepared to go home and cook.
When the children saw Emma Hart enter, they screamed in delight and rushed over. But their reunion was short-lived as their families pulled them back. The mothers kept calling, "Stop making noise and come home to cook!" The children reluctantly left Emma Hart.
The four of them entered the private room, which was elegantly decorated and far more upscale than the third floor of the original log cabin.
"Order whatever you like," Damian Sterling said, handing the menu to Emma Hart.
"As long as there’s meat, I’m good. Lucy, you decide!" Emma Hart said, passing the menu to Lucy Allen.
"Well, if you insist," Lucy Allen said, taking the menu and studying it with interest. She ordered some traditional dishes and a clear fish ball soup.
"Oh, and waiter, please bring some more tea. I want to re-sanitize the tableware," Lucy Allen said after ordering.
"Of course," the waiter replied, returning shortly with a pot of steaming tea.
Lucy Allen got up and poured hot tea into everyone’s tableware, then drained them after a while.
"I didn’t expect our beautiful Lucy to be so meticulous!" Assistant Lee remarked.
"I’m quite particular about food hygiene. Oh, thank you, Mrs. Sterling!" Lucy Allen thanked Emma Hart, who had risen to help with the tableware.
"You’re welcome," Emma Hart replied.
"It seems our Emma could learn a lot from you, Lucy Allen. Please mentor her when you have time," Damian Sterling said with a smile, looking at Emma Hart.
"Mr. Sterling, you must be joking. Mrs. Sterling is clearly a capable woman. She doesn’t need my guidance!" Lucy Allen responded.
Emma Hart pouted and pinched Damian Sterling’s thigh under the table.
"Ow!" Damian Sterling winced in pain.
While tidying up her clothes, Emma Hart asked Damian Sterling, who was lying on the bed playing with his phone, "Isn’t Lucy Allen the director of the design department? Why was she transferred to the training department?"
"Is that so strange? She has the ability, so she can handle it," Damian Sterling replied casually.
"There are quite a few management trainees this time. They filled the entire C area," Emma Hart continued.
"Yes, about 40 of them," Damian Sterling said.
Emma Hart paused her tidying, raising an eyebrow. "So you’re quite familiar with the situation, huh?"
"I’m the boss. How could I not know?" Damian Sterling clicked his tongue. "Why are your questions so odd today?"
"Then you know Riley Turner is among the trainees?" Emma Hart asked hesitantly, worried that Damian Sterling might not be aware.
"Of course," Damian Sterling replied directly.
"You didn’t tell his father, did you? Riley told me he didn’t want his dad to know he’s working at Sterling Group," Emma Hart said, throwing the clothes onto the bed and moving closer to Damian Sterling.
"Calm down. I didn’t say anything. I have no obligation to meddle in my employees’ private affairs," Damian Sterling answered calmly.
Emma Hart sighed deeply and then suddenly thought of something else. "If you knew Riley Turner was here, why didn’t you tell me earlier?"
Damian Sterling, looking irritated, took a deep breath. "I told you, I have no obligation to concern myself with my employees’ affairs." He wondered why Emma was being so bothersome tonight.
Emma Hart seemed to realize she had said too much and kept quiet. That night, she made up for it by pampering Damian Sterling.
The night passed quickly. The next morning, while Emma Hart lay naked and fast asleep in bed, Damian Sterling was already dressed and ready to inspect the construction progress in Peach Blossom Town.
"Ah!" Damian Sterling walked out of the cabin, yawning loudly. He looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes.
"Good morning, Mr. Sterling." The thoughtful Assistant Lee handed him a cup of coffee to perk him up.
Damian Sterling took the coffee and looked at Assistant Lee with a meaningful smile. "When did you get so clever?"
Assistant Lee smirked mischievously, "With you and Mrs. Sterling being so... active last night, how could I not know?"
Damian Sterling didn’t respond, just chuckled, patted Assistant Lee on the shoulder, and left the villa complex with her.
Inside the room, Emma Hart was still oblivious to Damian Sterling’s departure, lost in her dreams. Suddenly, a rapid knocking on the door interrupted her sleep.
"Who is it?" Emma Hart grumbled, sitting up and throwing off the covers. Who would disturb her sleep so early?
"It’s me, Riley Turner!" Riley Turner had been knocking for a while and finally heard Emma Hart’s response, breathing a sigh of relief.
Emma Hart lazily put on her shoes, ran a hand through her hair, and opened the door. "Why are you here so early? Don’t you have training?" She then noticed Riley Turner’s anxious expression and tightly clenched phone. "Is something wrong?"
Riley Turner nodded silently and, after gathering her thoughts, pleaded, "Emma, please help me!"
Sensing the urgency, Emma Hart invited Riley Turner in to discuss the matter.
Riley Turner explained that her parents were planning to visit her at Taylor Group in City B that afternoon. However, today’s training was intense, and she was too afraid to ask for leave. So she came to Emma Hart for advice.
"I understand your situation." Emma Hart placed a reassuring hand on Riley Turner’s shoulder, noticing how much thinner the girl was. "I’ll talk to your teacher. City B isn’t too far. After lunch, you can go see your parents but make sure you come back safely."
Riley Turner looked at Emma Hart gratefully. "Emma, you’re like a big sister to me!" She clasped her hands together in thanks.
This girl is really something, Emma Hart thought with a smile. She patted Riley Turner’s head and said, "Go back to training now. I’ll handle your leave in the afternoon. Do you need me to arrange a car for you?"
"No, no, I can do it myself. I’m sorry for bothering you, Emma," Riley Turner said.
"Hey, it’s no trouble at all," Emma Hart waved her off.
After lunch, Emma Hart requested leave for Riley Turner from Lucy Allen. Initially, Lucy was a bit upset since this disrupted her training schedule, but since Emma made the request, she couldn’t refuse and agreed reluctantly.
Emma Hart then escorted Riley Turner to the gate of Peach Blossom Town, standing with her as they waited for a car. They stood there for nearly 20 minutes without seeing a single vehicle, making Emma increasingly anxious for Riley.
"Riley, are you sure you called a car?" Emma asked, concerned.
Riley Turner’s eyes never left her phone screen as she paced the yellow dirt. "It’s so annoying! Look, it’s this car, but it keeps circling around and won’t come here!" She showed Emma the car’s location on her phone.
Growing impatient, Riley finally called the driver. "Hey, why aren’t you here yet? Why are you just driving in circles?"
The conversation was heated, with both sides sounding frustrated. After a brief argument, Riley angrily hung up and muttered a curse under her breath.
"Riley, what’s going on?" Emma asked cautiously, noting Riley’s irritation.
"The driver says the road ahead is too difficult and won’t come unless I pay extra," Riley said, helplessly.
Seeing no cars in sight, Emma suggested paying the driver extra since he was already nearby.
"Fine, I’ll pay the extra. If I take your car, my dad might find out," Riley sighed, preparing to call the driver to agree to the surcharge.
Just then, a black Rolls-Royce sped towards them and stopped in front of Emma and Riley.
"Wow! Another luxury car!" Riley exclaimed, staring intently at the black Rolls-Royce.
She was so absorbed in the sight that she didn’t notice the driver had answered her call and was shouting on the other end of the line.
The rear window of the Rolls-Royce rolled down slowly, revealing a handsome man who smiled and greeted Emma Hart. "Emma, how have you been lately?" It was Matthew Taylor.
"Mr. Taylor, what brings you here today?" Emma asked, puzzled.
"I called your office to schedule a meeting, and your lovely secretary told me you were on a business trip. I guessed you might be here since City B is nearby, so I came to check on you," Matthew Taylor explained as he stepped out of the car.
His tall and imposing figure blocked Riley Turner’s view, making her crane her neck to see his face fully.
"And who is this?" Matthew Taylor noticed Riley standing beside Emma.
