Chapter 410: Surprise at the Tower
As the dawn broke, the morning dew glistened on the fresh petals of the flowers, dripping onto the lush green grass. In the second-floor bedroom, Damien Sterling’s breathing was heavy yet steady. The woman who had been sleeping beside him was already downstairs, preparing breakfast.
Being far from the city, it was uncertain how long it would take to get breakfast if they drove into town. So, she decided to make breakfast herself in the villa. The bread was freshly baked, the coffee brewed to perfection, and a nutritious array of colorful fruits was ready. Just then, the master bedroom door on the second floor opened.
Damien Sterling, fully dressed, descended the stairs. After exchanging morning greetings, they sat at the dining table and began enjoying their delicious breakfast.
"How about we visit the Eiffel Tower today?" Emma Hart suggested. This was the landmark of Paris, and since they were here, she felt it was a must-see. She had been dreaming about it for a long time.
"Sure," Damien Sterling agreed casually.
After breakfast, Damien called for the driver to take them to the Eiffel Tower. Twenty minutes later, the vintage and romantic landmark of Paris was in front of them.
"I’m finally here!" Emma Hart exclaimed excitedly, running towards the tower. But Damien Sterling caught her by the corner of her shirt.
"Wait a second," he said calmly.
"What’s wrong now?" Emma asked, a bit disappointed.
Seeing her pout, Damien couldn’t help but chuckle internally.
"Don’t be in such a rush. The tower looks even more beautiful at night. How about we explore around here first? Besides, didn’t Amelia Davidson ask you to bring back some items?" Damien reminded her.
Emma Hart then remembered that Amelia Davidson had asked her to bring back some branded accessories before their trip to Paris.
"Let’s go shopping first then!" Emma said, happily pulling Damien towards the shops.
Though Emma had participated in design competitions, when it came to high-end fashion, her skills were not as refined as Damien’s. So, he helped her pick out gifts for Amelia Davidson.
They then visited a private perfume store. After several rounds of testing different scents, they finally chose a perfume that they felt would suit Amelia Davidson perfectly.
Time flew by, and soon it was getting dark. Emma eagerly pulled Damien towards the Eiffel Tower. They stood at the base, gazing up at its magnificent design.
"Take a picture of me!" Emma handed her phone to Damien, posing with the Eiffel Tower in the background, taking countless photos.
"Do you just plan on staying down here and looking at it, or do you want to go up?" Damien asked.
"But we’d have to queue up for tickets, and that takes forever," Emma said, a bit disappointed.
"Who said anything about queuing? Let’s go," Damien said, raising an eyebrow and pulling two tickets to the tower’s restaurant out of his coat pocket.
"When did you get these? That’s amazing!" Emma was overjoyed. At that moment, Damien seemed almost god-like to her.
"How hard do you think it is for me?" Damien said with a wry smile, taking Emma’s hand and leading her towards the elevator.
The private passage was reserved just for them, and the staff greeted them with impeccable politeness. As the elevator ascended, Emma Hart pressed against the inside, peering through the transparent glass window as everything below gradually shrank from view.
Since there was still some time before dinner, they relaxed in the restaurant for a while after arriving. Emma, filled with excitement, tried to video call her best friend, Amelia Davidson, but found her phone was off. She repeatedly tried calling Amelia and then Mrs. Harris, but none of her calls went through. Now she was starting to panic.
"What’s going on? Why is everyone’s phone off?" Emma asked Damien, distressed.
"Don’t worry too much. If something happened, someone would have called us. Maybe their phones just coincidentally ran out of battery," Damien reassured her.
Emma suddenly noticed something odd around them. The people in the restaurant were beginning to leave.
"Why is everyone leaving? Is the restaurant closing?" Emma asked, feeling more unsettled by the strangeness of the day.
"No, I reserved the entire restaurant," Damien said, snapping his fingers to call over a waiter.
"Good evening, sir," the waiter greeted Damien respectfully, holding a menu.
Damien handed the menu to Emma.
"I’m too frazzled to pick anything," she said, feeling overwhelmed.
Damien then ordered their meal, including the most classic dishes and two bottles of champagne.
A short while later, Mrs. Harris called Emma back, explaining her phone had died earlier. Damien had guessed correctly, Emma thought to herself.
"Mrs. Harris, I haven’t seen the kids in so long. Can we do a video call?" Emma asked, thinking the children should be home from school by now.
"Um, now’s not a good time, Emma," Mrs. Harris stammered, refusing Emma’s request.
"Why?" Emma asked, suddenly feeling uneasy.
Mrs. Harris laughed awkwardly, unsure of how to explain the situation, especially since Mr. Sterling had given strict instructions.
"Actually, Emma, I’m in the middle of cooking. I better go before the kids get too hungry," Mrs. Harris said quickly before hanging up.
Damien, sitting beside Emma, listened in on the conversation, smiling secretly to himself. The appetizers arrived soon after, featuring aperitifs and bread.
But no matter how good the food was, Emma couldn’t enjoy it. Mrs. Harris and Amelia Davidson were acting strange. Damien snapped his fingers again, and the lights dimmed instantly.
"Is there a power outage?" Emma asked, frightened.
Just as she spoke, the lights near the entrance lit up again. Soft, romantic piano music filled the air. The restaurant doors opened, but no one was visible.
Emma stood up slowly and saw her two little children!
"Gabriel! Joshua!" Emma shouted, tears of joy streaming down her face. She ran over and hugged her beloved kids.
"Mommy!" the children giggled, wrapping their arms around her neck.
The room was suddenly filled with colorful lights, and Emma saw Amelia Davidson and Mrs. Harris standing at the door, both of whom had not answered her calls earlier. Amelia waved enthusiastically at her.
