Chapter 411: Becoming a Homebody Again
"Hi, Emma! Isn’t this a pleasant surprise?" Amelia Davidson cheerfully grasped Emma Hart’s hand.
"Amelia, I’ve been trying to call you, but your phone was off. When did you get here?" Emma Hart asked, puzzled.
"Alright, let’s not just stand here chatting. Let’s get inside; I’m starving," Logan Harrington, standing next to Amelia Davidson, pouted and complained. He had been admiring the view of the tower outside but noticed everyone had already gathered.
The waitstaff rearranged the tables for Damien Sterling’s group, bringing out a variety of delicious dishes.
At the table, Amelia Davidson told Emma Hart that Damien Sterling had invited them out and that they had arrived by helicopter. Emma Hart widened her eyes at Damien Sterling, as if asking, "What are you up to?"
"Alright, now’s not the time to discuss this. We should focus on our meal!" Logan Harrington interrupted the women’s conversation.
"Let’s eat first. Cheers, everyone!" Emma Hart said, raising her glass and taking a big gulp. The alcohol left a tingling sensation in her mouth.
After the meal, the group strolled around the tower. Logan Harrington and Amelia Davidson stayed in a high-end hotel in the city, while Mrs. Harris and the two babies returned to the villa with Emma Hart and the others.
The suburban villa area was as quiet as ever, with only the occasional sound of a barking dog. In the garden villa, Mrs. Harris and the two babies stayed in a small adjacent bedroom, which had been redecorated earlier that day after Damien Sterling and the others had left.
Everything happened so suddenly that Emma Hart felt a bit overwhelmed.
"Why did you bring the kids and everyone here all of a sudden?" Emma Hart asked Damien Sterling in the master bedroom.
"There’s an international business meeting here tomorrow that I need to attend. I didn’t want to leave you alone at home," Damien Sterling replied.
Emma Hart frowned.
"Haven’t you always missed your friend and the kids? Now they can keep you company," Damien Sterling continued.
"I do miss them, but now it doesn’t feel like a honeymoon anymore. Besides, you can take me with you tomorrow!" Emma Hart cautiously suggested.
"Everything else is fine, but tomorrow is off-limits," Damien Sterling said firmly, his tone very resolute.
"Alright, but this disrupts the kids’ routine, and I won’t go anywhere alone. This place is so remote," Emma Hart said helplessly.
"It may be remote, but I can’t underestimate you. I had to make some plans to keep you here, didn’t I? It’s dangerous outside, and if you sneak out, I’ll get angry," Damien Sterling said, pinching Emma Hart’s nose with two fingers.
Emma Hart’s eyes widened, her pouty lips pink and plump. She still couldn’t get used to Damien Sterling’s overprotective behavior.
"Alright, go to sleep," Damien Sterling said, ruffling Emma Hart’s hair like a kitten before collapsing onto the large, soft bed.
The room’s lights were already off. Emma Hart, in her peach-pink silk nightgown, slipped under the covers. She lay on her side, watching the man who had fallen asleep with his back to her.
His back, neck, and hair all seemed to exude a captivating scent. She took a gentle sniff of this pleasant aroma, then nestled into the warm embrace of the large bed.
When Emma Hart woke up, the bed beside her was already empty. Damien Sterling had left without a trace.
Emma didn’t change into her day clothes. Instead, she went downstairs to the living room in her pajamas. Breakfast was ready on the table, the two children were playing on the living room sofa, and Mrs. Harris was cleaning the living room.
"Mrs. Harris?" Emma called out.
"Emma, you’re up. Mr. Sterling has already left. He wants you to rest and stay here today," Mrs. Harris said, pausing her sweeping.
"Alright," Emma sighed. She really didn’t like this feeling of being trapped in a birdcage.
Emma changed into her home clothes and leisurely ate breakfast at the table, scrolling through her social media. Amelia Davidson was dominating her feed, seemingly live-updating her trip to Paris, making Emma quite envious.
Oh well, no point in looking at my phone today. She wasn’t going anywhere anyway.
After breakfast, Emma switched into mom mode and played with the kids. She started a block-building game with the two children, who couldn’t say more than a few words yet.
"Look, this toy is supposed to be played like this," Emma demonstrated how to build tall structures, but the kids seemed uninterested, focusing instead on building their dream castles.
During the game, Emma noticed that her two children had quite the knack for design, much better than anything she could come up with.
Before long, Emma realized that she couldn’t keep up with their creativity and intelligence, so she gave up on playing with them.
Emma started wandering around the garden alone, admiring the flowers on the lawn, though she only recognized the roses.
Next door, a curvy woman, about twenty-five or twenty-six, came out to take out the trash. She saw Emma and nodded politely. This must be the nanny the boy mentioned the other day.
As dinner time approached, Emma, feeling lonely, decided to call Damien Sterling.
"Hey, will you be home for dinner tonight?" Emma asked. She really wanted to ask, "When are you coming back? Who are you with?" but she felt too embarrassed.
"I’ll be home very late tonight. You all go ahead without me," Damien Sterling said, his tone cold and unfamiliar to Emma.
Emma felt a pang in her chest. After a brief response, she hung up the phone.
Why wouldn’t he let her go with him? Could he be with another woman?
Emma immediately thought of the sweet and sexy flight attendant Damien Sterling exchanged social media contacts with on the flight to Paris. Could they be meeting up?
Anxiously, Emma checked Damien Sterling’s social media but found nothing. How foolish of her to think he’d post anything incriminating if he were up to something.
"Mrs. Harris, do you know where Mr. Sterling’s meeting is?" Emma asked Mrs. Harris, who was preparing lunch.
"I’m not sure," Mrs. Harris shook her head.
"Wait!" Emma quickly opened her phone and searched the internet. Damien Sterling’s meeting must be a high-profile event, so there should be news about it in Paris.
