Chapter 364: Parent-Child Activity 2
Emma Hart thought to herself, it’s such a small world. Fate always seems to bring people together in unexpected ways. She wondered if her encounter with Lucy Allen would turn out to be a blessing or a curse.
"That’s such a coincidence! Our child just enrolled there too, as a new student," Emma Hart responded.
Emma and Lucy then engaged in an enthusiastic discussion centered around their children and their education. This added an extra topic to their otherwise awkward lunch.
Damian Sterling ate silently, seemingly intent on keeping his distance from Lucy Allen.
Lucy’s child, Daniel, sat next to her, eating quietly without lifting his head. Daniel had fair skin, and strikingly deep-set features. His cheeks had a few faint freckles, but overall, he was quite handsome.
"Your son is really handsome!" Emma Hart commented.
"Yes, he does resemble his father quite a bit," Lucy Allen replied, a hint of sadness in her eyes.
Sensing the conversation was heading into uncomfortable territory, Emma Hart decided to change the subject. "I’m sorry, Lucy—"
"Excuse me, would you be interested in joining our ’Weekend Parent-Child Sports Day’ with your lovely children?" A girl holding a stack of flyers approached their group before Emma could finish her sentence.
Lucy Allen accepted a flyer from the girl.
This parent-child park hosted a sports day nearly every weekend. Parents and children participated together, with each family paying a twenty-dollar entry fee. The winning family in each event would receive a prize.
"This sounds interesting. My son could use the exercise. Alright, we’re in! Mrs. Sterling, what about you?" Lucy Allen asked.
"Well, our children are still quite young," Emma said, considering her twins, Gabriel and Joshua, who were not even a year old. Participating in a sports day seemed a bit challenging for them.
The girl glanced at Gabriel and Joshua, who were sitting on the picnic blanket eating on their own. Smiling, she said to Emma, "No problem at all, mom! Look how smart your babies are! We have some events specifically designed for children aged zero to two. You can bring them along to join the fun too."
"I need to ask my husband first," Emma Hart said, turning to look at Damian Sterling, who was quietly eating.
"If you want to play, go ahead. But I’m not participating," Damian Sterling replied coldly.
So, Emma Hart filled out the registration form.
The sports event would take place on the 400-meter track field not far from where they were eating.
The event site was somewhat chaotic, with many activities taking place simultaneously.
Because Lucy Allen’s son was older, he could participate in more events. Lucy Allen signed him up for several competitions, including the three-legged race, parent-child long jump, and parent-child relay race.
The Sterling brothers, on the other hand, joined the toddler-friendly events like the parent-child ball push and parent-child basketball throw.
Since there was still some time before the toddler events began, they decided to cheer for Lucy Allen and Daniel first.
Lucy Allen and Daniel showed great teamwork. Except for coming in second in the long jump, they won first place in all the other events. Soon, Lucy Allen’s backpack was filled with champion prizes.
The prizes weren’t valuable—small gold medals and some freebies like toy car models and dolls. Nonetheless, Lucy Allen was the happiest, while Daniel’s expression remained indifferent.
The toddler events were scheduled last, as the youngest participants were the most delicate. After clearing away all unrelated items to ensure the children’s safety, the competition began.
Damian Sterling and Emma Hart each took one child to compete.
Damian Sterling was reluctant to join, but with two children to manage, Emma Hart couldn’t handle both. He had no choice but to participate; after all, it was his family.
The first event was the ball push. Parents and their children had to roll a large ball together for twenty meters. The first to reach the finish line would be the winner.
"Ready, set, go!" the referee shouted.
Emma Hart paired with Joshua, and Damian Sterling with Gabriel.
The parents were not concerned about winning or losing but hoped their children would have fun and reach the finish line safely.
They bent their bodies, gently rolling the ball with one hand while the other hand protected their children, fearing they might fall.
Lucy Allen and Daniel cheered for Emma Hart and Damian Sterling from the spectators’ area.
In the end, Emma Hart’s team won.
The second event was the parent-child ball toss. Colorful balls were scattered on the ground, and the parents and children had to work together to throw as many balls as possible into the baskets in front of them within the given time.
The time limit was five minutes. The competition began.
Parents frantically threw balls into the baskets, while children slowly bent down to pick up a ball and threw it randomly, causing some competitive parents to feel anxious as their children ended up tossing balls into others’ baskets.
The game ended quickly, and Damian Sterling’s team won this round.
After collecting their prizes, it was already evening. At Emma Hart’s invitation, they all headed to the children’s restaurant in the parent-child park for dinner.
The restaurant was crowded, with bodyguards and maids either queuing for food or searching for a good spot to sit.
They quickly settled near the cartoon character sculptures, and the food was brought to them by the maids.
The Sterling twins had toddler meals, consisting of nutritious side dishes with small noodles and children’s milk.
Meanwhile, Daniel and the adults had roast lamb chops, juice, and pasta.
Everyone was exhausted from the day’s activities, so the dinner was quiet, with everyone focusing on their meals.
Emma Hart occasionally looked at her children to ensure they were eating well and then glanced over at Lucy Allen.
Lucy Allen and her child seemed very distant. They sat apart and did not interact, giving no impression of being a family.
After dinner, the restaurant had a small play area. Emma Hart and Lucy Allen accompanied their children while Damian Sterling stayed at the table discussing business with Assistant Lee.
Daniel played with Gabriel and Joshua in a large tub filled with small balls. Kids always find a way to play together quickly.
Lucy Allen and Emma Hart stood by, watching them and chatting.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Emma Hart asked, "Director Allen, who is Daniel’s father?"
Lucy Allen, without hiding her situation, responded calmly, "He’s no longer with us."
