Chapter 359: Becoming Damien’s Assistant (2)
At eight o’clock, the purple Bugatti arrived punctually at the entrance of Sterling Group. The doorman and receptionist immediately stood to welcome Mr. Sterling.
Emma Hart stood beside Damien Sterling, clad in a designer business suit and three-inch heels, holding his lunch for the day.
In the CEO’s office, Assistant Lee had been waiting by the door for some time.
"Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling?" Assistant Lee looked at Emma Hart in professional attire with a puzzled expression.
"Good morning, Assistant Lee," Emma Hart responded awkwardly with a shy smile. She couldn’t even bring herself to explain why she was here.
Damien Sterling offered no further explanation, simply stating that Emma Hart was accompanying him.
"Have a seat," Damien Sterling instructed, gesturing to the sofa in front of his desk. The long-legged secretary brought Emma Hart a glass of honey water. "Mrs. Sterling, please enjoy," she said with a smile.
"Thank you," Emma Hart replied, noticing that this secretary seemed much more professional and personable compared to Damien’s previous one, who often flirted with men in the office.
Damien Sterling and Assistant Lee began discussing the day’s schedule. It appeared Damien was not particularly busy, with only one meeting in the afternoon to discuss the development plans for Peach Blossom Town.
After going over the schedule, they delved into topics that Emma couldn’t comprehend—marketing strategies, project timelines, and more. Completely uninterested in these matters, Emma chose to entertain herself by scrolling through social media on her phone.
She suddenly remembered she would be spending a month at Sterling Group and decided to inform her sister, Amelia. Maybe Amelia was in the office, and they could catch up. This thought brought a gleam to her eyes and a smile to her face. If Damien Sterling saw her now, he would surely suspect she was flirting with another man.
"Amelia! I’m at the office. Where are you?" Emma Hart sent a voice message to Amelia Davidson.
"Oh! I’m not in the office today, I’m meeting clients in City B! What brings you here today?" Amelia Davidson quickly replied.
Emma switched to text, explaining she would be Damien Sterling’s personal assistant for a month.
Amelia just laughed, saying they certainly had an interesting relationship and that she would come see Emma tomorrow.
Emma’s plan to escape the boredom of the office by meeting Amelia had crumbled. Feeling resigned, she glanced at Damien, who was still engrossed in a work discussion with Assistant Lee. To her, their conversation was as unintelligible as monks chanting.
Bored out of her mind, she put on her headphones to listen to music and play games, occasionally glancing at Damien and Assistant Lee.
Without realizing it, Emma fell asleep.
"Emma? Emma?" Half-asleep, she felt someone remove her headphones and call her name.
"Hmm?" Emma opened her drowsy eyes to see Damien Sterling frowning at her.
"What’s up?" Emma sat up abruptly.
Damien chuckled and said, "Don’t sleep now, it’s lunch break."
Emma noticed a small blanket on her. It must have been the long-legged secretary who covered her while she slept.
"Wake up. Let’s have lunch," Damien said, sitting beside her.
Looking around, Emma saw that Assistant Lee and the secretary had left, likely for their own lunch break.
Damien opened the lunchbox, and steam rose, condensing on the wooden coffee table. The food was still hot.
"What were you talking about this morning? I couldn’t understand any of it," Emma asked.
"Nothing you need to worry about, it’s complicated. By the way, did you make this lunch?" Damien replied between bites.
"Yes! How is it? Tastes okay?" Emma asked, confident in her cooking.
"It’s quite good. Keep it up!" Damien said, ruffling Emma’s already messy hair.
After lunch, Damien Sterling returned to his desk, his fingers flying over the keyboard as he typed away. Emma Hart, having napped all morning, felt stiff and began doing some office yoga to loosen up.
"Emma, make me a coffee," Damien ordered, his eyes never leaving the computer screen.
"Sure!" Emma replied, heading to the break room.
The Sterling Group’s break room was large, resembling a mini café, with about ten people inside, eating, drinking tea, and chatting. Emma quietly walked up to the coffee bar and began preparing Damien’s coffee: Americano, slightly warm, with a quarter sugar.
"Honey, can you hurry up? I’m rushing to make coffee for the old hag!" a sharp female voice sounded behind her.
"Sorry, I’ll be done soon!" Emma quickly apologized.
The woman stepped forward and, upon seeing Emma’s face, exclaimed loudly, "Emma Hart—no, Mrs. Sterling!"
The onlookers turned, all eyes on Emma. It was all so sudden and coincidental.
Emma looked closely and recognized eight out of the ten people in the break room—they were her former colleagues from the design department.
"It’s you guys!" Emma exclaimed joyfully. Although these old colleagues hadn’t been particularly kind to her, it was still exciting to see familiar faces after so long.
"Emma, do you remember me?" the woman who had shouted asked sheepishly.
Emma did remember her, she was one of the old hag’s subordinates. Emma nodded slightly and explained she was here to make coffee for Mr. Sterling.
"Wow, you’ve really made it! You’re our boss’s wife now! Let me help you with the coffee," the woman offered eagerly, reaching out to take over.
"Oh, no thanks! I’ve got it," Emma replied, picking up the freshly made coffee.
"Really? Our Mrs. Sterling is so skillful!" the woman said with a smile, her tone as if flattering a child.
"Emma, I got this cheese tart from outside. Take it back and enjoy!" another woman approached, holding a trendy tart box, offering it to Emma.
Emma smiled at the gesture.
Emma Hart didn’t take the dessert box. Holding the coffee cup in both hands, she smiled and said, "Thank you for the treat. I appreciate the gesture, but it’s best if everyone enjoys it together. I have to get back; Mr. Sterling is waiting for me. Goodbye, everyone! Enjoy your break!"
