Chapter 335: The Interrogation
Amelia Davidson, who had been playing around, now sat tensely on the side, ears perked up, ready to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Grandma! Uh, no! Madison!" Logan Harrington was evidently flustered.
"Don’t be nervous, child!" Mrs. Harrington slowly raised her wine glass towards the moon, her gaze so intense it seemed as though she could see something magical and mesmerizing within the glass.
"How have you been? You never have time to come and see this old lady!" Mrs. Harrington complained.
"Oh, look at you! You’re glowing, your skin is better than mine, and your figure is a hundred times more fabulous. How can you call yourself an old lady?" Logan’s words were as sweet as honey, making Mrs. Harrington beam with delight.
Mrs. Harrington liked to call herself an old lady to remind everyone that her success was due to her relentless efforts over the years. She didn’t want people to only see her glamorous side, as that often invited envy and resentment.
"Stop sweet-talking me. After all these years, your skills in charming ladies haven’t improved one bit. I told you to go on blind dates, but you refused. Now you tell me you’re getting married! What’s going on? Explain it to me!" Mrs. Harrington’s tone was like a woman discovering her boyfriend’s infidelity. She punctuated her words by flicking Logan’s forehead.
At the mention of "marriage," Logan’s face flushed bright red, fortunately hidden by the dim lighting.
"Is it her?" Mrs. Harrington glanced at Amelia Davidson, who was nearby playing with children alongside Emma Hart.
"Yes, it’s her," Logan replied confidently.
Mrs. Harrington studied Amelia carefully. She seemed older, but well-maintained, suggesting a woman who valued quality of life. Yet, she exuded a queenly aura that Logan might struggle to handle.
"Why did you fall for her?" Mrs. Harrington’s curious eyes returned to Logan’s face.
"I was captivated by her from the first moment I saw her," Logan confessed. Seeing that Mrs. Harrington remained silent, he continued, "Spending time with her, I realized how much more comfortable I felt compared to being with younger women. She makes me feel at ease. Yes, with her, I feel a sense of peace."
Mrs. Harrington continued to remain silent.
"Grandma, do you know what home is?" Logan Harrington took a sip of red wine before continuing. "Grandpa, Dad, and Mom have been gone for so many years. It’s been you who supported my education and my business ventures. But we’ve hardly spent time together—either you were busy, or I was off fooling around. I haven’t felt what ’home’ means in a long time... Until I saw her. From the first moment I laid eyes on her, I knew I, Logan Harrington, would marry no one but her."
Mrs. Harrington looked down and smiled. She had never heard Logan speak so earnestly. At this moment, she realized her grandson was serious about this woman.
Swirling her wine glass, Mrs. Harrington gazed at the calm sea in the distance. She couldn’t dictate her grandson’s life, and she knew she could hardly contain his rebellious spirit.
"Bring her over," Mrs. Harrington instructed Logan.
"Yes," Logan replied, then stood up and walked over to Amelia Davidson, gently tapping her shoulder.
Amelia turned to look at Logan, understanding what he was about to say.
"Grandma wants to see you," Logan said, pointing in Mrs. Harrington’s direction.
Following Logan, Amelia walked over to Mrs. Harrington.
"Come, sit down, child," Mrs. Harrington’s smile was warm, the initial coldness gone.
As Amelia sat, Logan was about to join them when Mrs. Harrington waved him away. "Logan, go take a walk."
Logan hesitated until Amelia gave him a reassuring look, then reluctantly left.
"You’re Amelia Davidson, correct?" Mrs. Harrington asked.
"Yes, Madison," Amelia replied with a smile, reminiscent of a young graduate at a job interview.
"May I call you Amelia? It feels less formal that way," Mrs. Harrington suggested.
Amelia nodded in agreement.
"You’re older than Logan, aren’t you? Don’t you ever feel insecure being with him?" Mrs. Harrington asked, hitting straight to the point.
Amelia Davidson was seen as nearly perfect in everyone’s eyes—nearly, because she had two significant flaws. Her family was quite ordinary, a major drawback in her life, as her parents were both unemployed and depended on her for support. Her other flaw was her age; she was no longer young.
Mrs. Harrington’s question left Amelia momentarily speechless.
"Actually, Logan has always treated me very well. He is a truly dedicated knight. I assume Mrs. Harrington has thoroughly investigated my background. Logan and I are serious about each other. I, Amelia Davidson, am not someone who is fickle. Since confirming my relationship with Logan, I have remained completely loyal to him. Being with Logan doesn’t make me feel tired at all. He makes me realize that this butterfly shouldn’t be fluttering around anymore; it’s time to come home," Amelia said with a smile.
Mrs. Harrington didn’t continue the conversation.
They sat in silence for a while. Suddenly, fireworks exploded in the sky, their brilliant colors lighting up the tense night.
Logan Harrington appeared on a yacht, shouting, "Hey, everyone! Look over here!"
Everyone’s attention turned to Logan. The yacht lit up with colorful lights, and a group of handsome men and beautiful women emerged, accompanied by booming DJ music. A unique island party was underway.
The guests were stunned, and the children laughed joyfully at the sight of the colorful balloons and lights. Mrs. Harrington accidentally knocked over her wine glass.
Logan danced around the dining table, shouting, "Come on, ladies! Let’s have some fun!"
Before Mrs. Harrington could recover, Logan whisked her to the center of the dance floor.
Damien Sterling quickly walked over to Emma Hart, leading her and the children to a small cabin on the island.
Logan Harrington’s party-loving gene must have been inherited from Mrs. Harrington. Instead of leaving the dance floor in a hurry, she surprised everyone by taking the lead, transforming into the queen of the night.
