Chapter 25: Does Money Make You Superior?
With fury blazing in her eyes, Emma Hart snatched the check, tearing it to pieces before tossing it into the air.
"So what if you’re rich? Does your money give you the right to control my freedom? Regardless of whether I acknowledge this child as yours or not, even if there’s a connection with you, I have the right to decide its future! Damien Sterling, I want you to let me go, right now, immediately, this instant!"
As she stormed towards the door, Damien Sterling’s long arm ensnared her in a fierce, powerful grip.
A chilling aura emanated from Damien, an icy coldness enveloping Emma. The trembling of his hands was a clear indicator of his immense anger. This time, Emma had truly provoked the wrath of this man.
"Let go of me!" Emma struggled with all her might, pounding her fists against Damien, but the man was immovable.
"I’m warning you, don’t provoke me further!" Damien’s veins bulged with fury, his anger radiating from his abyss-like eyes.
Emma met Damien’s furious gaze head-on, her eyes wide as she challenged his authority.
"I want to provoke you! What are you going to do about it? Damien Sterling, stop being so arrogant! You think the whole world revolves around you, you think you’re somebody..."
Before Emma could finish her sentence, Damien’s hand clamped around her neck.
Emma’s face contorted in distress, her breaths shallow as her face flushed a deep red.
Her mouth slightly agape, she emitted intermittent, gasping sounds, while Damien’s grip showed no sign of weakening...
Emma Hart felt as if she was on the brink of death, gasping for breath. Images of her mother, grandmother, brother... and Ethan Turner flashed before her eyes. Who would grieve if she were to leave this world?
Was death the only escape from this tyrannical devil before her?
Tears silently streamed down Emma’s cheeks...
Seeing the glistening tears on Emma’s face, a flicker of pity surprisingly crossed Damien Sterling’s heart.
"Sir..." Mrs. Harris finally rushed forward, her voice breaking with a sob, pleading with Damien. "Sir, please, let her go. Miss Emma can’t take it anymore."
Though Mrs. Harris hadn’t known Emma for long, she could sense her goodness. Always cautious in her own life, Mrs. Harris couldn’t stand by and watch this unfold, unable to bear the thought of Emma coming to harm.
Even knowing that a single life meant little to the powerful Sterling family.
At last, Damien released Emma’s neck. She slumped against Mrs. Harris, collapsing to the floor, gasping for air.
Damien looked down at Emma on the ground, his voice low and hoarse, "I warned you, don’t provoke me again."
With impatience, Damien adjusted his collar, exuding a predatory aura like a leopard after its prey, and walked upstairs without looking back.
It took a while for Emma to regain her composure. With Mrs. Harris’s support, she slowly made her way upstairs.
Emma was overwhelmed by a sense of immense sorrow and helplessness. Everything around her seemed to lose its luster. Death eluded her, yet living seemed more torturous than death itself.
Must life be filled with such thorns?
