Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 26: Fasting

Chapter 26: Fasting

Mrs. Harris, her eyes still glistening with tears, gently laid Emma Hart on the bed.

She couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke up, "Miss Emma, why can’t you just be a little more compliant? You wouldn’t have to suffer so much if you were."

Gently, Emma Hart reached out her hand, touching Mrs. Harris’s face and wiping away a tear.

"I’m sorry, Mrs. Harris, I don’t want to live that way. Please don’t be sad for me..." As she spoke, Emma couldn’t stop her own tears from falling.

"I’ll go get you a glass of water," Mrs. Harris said, dabbing at her tears, unable to bear looking at Emma’s tear-streaked face any longer.

Soon, Mrs. Harris returned, accompanied by a private doctor.

"Mrs. Harris, this is..." Emma started.

With a slightly joyous expression, Mrs. Harris interrupted, "This is the Sterling family’s private doctor. He usually only treats Mr. Sterling. I’m sure Mr. Sterling sent him, worried he might have hurt you too badly earlier."

Emma knew Mrs. Harris was trying to speak well of Damien Sterling, but how could the black be turned white with just a few words?

She knew all too well what kind of man Damien Sterling was.

To even call him a man seemed an insult to the word.

The doctor carefully examined the marks on Emma’s neck.

Emma wanted to resist, but found herself too weak to muster any strength.

She didn’t need Damien Sterling’s insincere concern. She was fine, or at least, it didn’t matter if she wasn’t.

The door lock clicked, and Damien Sterling entered.

His presence seemed to weigh down the room, the air growing still at his arrival, an indescribable oppressive force enveloping everyone.

Damien Sterling stopped by the bed, his expression dark and unclear, his tone cold, "How is the child?"

The child? Hearing these ridiculous words, Emma realized he only cared about the child inside her, not her.

She knew him better than anyone, better than Mrs. Harris ever could.

His contemptible nature was now firmly entrenched.

The doctor meticulously gathered his instruments, exhibiting not a hint of negligence.

"Rest assured, sir, the child within is unharmed. The lady must take care to rest and eat well, without any further..." He paused, eyeing Damien Sterling’s expression with a lifted eyebrow, before hesitantly adding, "Avoid any significant emotional upheavals."

Damien Sterling’s eyes flickered momentarily, causing the private doctor to panic, fearing he might have misspoken.

"I understand," Damien responded.

Once the doctor had departed, Damien instructed Mrs. Harris, "Stay with her tonight, Mrs. Harris. I’ll have people at the door; call them if you need anything."

Mrs. Harris nodded in agreement.

Damien’s gaze was icy as he glanced at Emma Hart, his brows tightly furrowed. He turned and left the room.

Damien had never encountered a woman so oblivious to good sense. Was this her way of standing out?

Such affectation, if meant to garner his attention, was a misstep on Emma’s part. It only served to intensify his disdain.

Early the next morning...

"Did she make any fuss last night?"

In the kitchen, Mrs. Harris shook her head, her words trailing off. "Sir..."

"Take good care of her. Call me if anything comes up." Damien Sterling walked briskly towards the door, his mind on the plethora of tasks awaiting him at the company.

He had no time to waste here, pondering how to deal with a woman.

In the afternoon, Damien Sterling’s phone rang in his office.

On the other end, Mrs. Harris’s voice was laced with urgency. "Sir, Miss Emma hasn’t eaten anything since yesterday."

A hunger strike? Was this woman deploying yet another tactic?
