Chapter 177: A Coveted Assignment

The whispers and rumors Emma Hart had overheard in the restroom were still circling in her ears, leaving her in a state of hesitation.

It seemed that Sophia Greenwood’s care towards her was perhaps due to Damian Sterling, which undeniably had its impact on Emma.

"I..." Emma Hart began to speak, only to have her hand gently taken and held by Sophia Greenwood, who looked at her with earnest pleading.

"Emma, you know how lucrative this position is. The gifts they buy, those items... you can’t really put a price on them. I was hoping to find someone reliable, and besides, it’s also about easing Damian Sterling’s worries. His company might not care about the small change, but we can’t just let the company’s hard-earned money fall into those people’s pockets, right?"

Emma sighed internally, realizing that Sophia truly didn’t understand her.

She didn’t care about Damian Sterling’s money. After all, wasn’t he always donating generously, often in her name?

This thought alone made Emma roll her eyes at Damian Sterling a hundred thousand times over in her mind.

Ultimately, under Sophia Greenwood’s persistent coaxing, Emma Hart reluctantly agreed to compromise and took on a new assignment: to maintain a relationship with a company they were about to collaborate with.

However, to Emma, this felt more like going directly to give gifts rather than fostering any genuine relationship.

The company had provided the funds, and all Emma needed to do was to spend the money and then grandly present the gifts as if completing a mission.

This realization made Emma finally understand why others had such big opinions about her; indeed, it was a cushy job.

It was as if no one was managing her, free from time constraints, allowed to shop at leisure, and still receiving a hefty salary.

This was infinitely easier than being cooped up in the office, glued to a computer, working on various designs.

Apparently, the client had a liking for unique stones, an area Emma was not very familiar with.

Just as she was wracking her brain, her phone rang. "Go to the garage later, I’ll have someone go with you."

"Huh?"

"To the unique stone market." The man hung up after speaking.

Emma looked around, bewildered, then down at herself, wondering if the man had placed something on her to monitor her every move.

Emma Hart made her way into the garage, already halfway there when she encountered Damien Sterling’s driver, who exhibited a notable indifference.

This, paradoxically, provided Emma with a sense of relief, hoping it would disguise the fact that she was a regular passenger in his vehicle.

Upon opening the car door and getting in, she found herself sharing the space with a man of certain age who warmly invited her in. The man was visibly dazzled by the luxury of the car, probably unaccustomed to such opulence.

"Oh, this car is just so comfortable."

"This must be a limited edition, right?"

...

The man kept making comments, to which Emma Hart could only offer occasional awkward smiles in response, while the driver maintained an air of disregard from the front seat.

Exiting the car, the man strutted off as if he owned the luxury vehicle, treating it as though it were his privilege. For him, the chance to ’play rich’ was satisfaction enough.

Emma Hart disembarked with a less conspicuous air, always wishing to draw as little attention as possible. Yet, the man’s every action screamed of nothing but ostentation!

"You’re from the design department, right? Just follow me, I’m very experienced with client relations."

True to his word, the man quickly got to the point, "Give me the client’s information, and I’ll help you pick something out."

He led Emma Hart directly to an antique shop, confidently browsing through the documents, "No big deal, just follow my lead."

Upon entering the antique store, the shopkeeper greeted the man with warmth.

"Got any unusual stones recently?" He appeared to be well-acquainted with the place.

The shopkeeper handed an item to Emma Hart, while the man assured, "This piece is of excellent quality, absolutely no issues, trust me!"

Though Emma Hart was no expert, the item indeed looked beautiful with its vibrant color and lustrous sheen.

Supposedly sent by Damien Sterling, the man’s taste couldn’t be that off, despite his earlier lack of sophistication in the car making Emma question his expertise. After all, not just anyone could access Sterling’s car.

Following the given address, Emma Hart delivered the item and upon her return to the company, she bumped into Sophia Greenwood, who was about to leave.

"Emma, you’re back? You’ve really made a great contribution this time; the client loved what you delivered, and they’re ready to sign a contract with us."

Sophia left with a beaming smile, leaving Emma feeling as though her role had been minimal, having done nothing more than accompany the delivery and make a payment.

Such a job... seemed overly simplistic, yet it surprisingly garnered high praise.

Around noon, Amelia Davidson called Emma Hart to invite her out to lunch.

A luxury car was parked at the door, and Emma Hart cautiously got in.

"Why so careful?" Amelia Davidson asked nonchalantly.

"Huh?" Emma Hart replied, feeling guilty—wasn’t this all because of Damian Sterling?

"Afraid of gossip, or maybe..." Amelia Davidson leaned closer to Emma, teasing her.

Seeing Emma’s shy demeanor, Amelia truly found the girl adorable. "Alright, what do you want to eat? It’s my treat."

They ended up at a hot pot restaurant. "How about this place? It’s new; let’s try it out," Amelia suggested, preparing to park the car.

"Sounds good to me; I’m easy to please," Emma declared.

Just as Emma got out of the car, a lazy voice called out from behind, "Who’s this?"

Turning around, Emma saw a man with delicate features, his charming yet slightly wicked look accentuated by his tousled teal hair—a color only someone with a unique aura, like Damian Sterling or his friends, could pull off.

This man was Logan Harrington, one of Damian’s close circle.

Emma Hart had hardly met Logan Harrington before, but he was quite familiar with her and her complicated relationship with Damian Sterling; he never missed out on any gossip about Damian.

Amelia Davidson cast a casual glance at Logan Harrington and asked Emma, "Your friend? He seems a bit unscrupulous." Amelia chuckled, having seen too many young, immature playboys.

Amelia casually walked away from them, remarking, "Looks like someone’s got the bill! Perfect."

Emma turned around only to find Logan’s gaze fixated on Amelia’s departing figure, almost in a daze. Why is he looking at her like that?
