Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 176: Which Executive’s Woman

Chapter 176: Which Executive’s Woman

The widow’s crystal red nails flamboyantly swept over everyone in the design department before she haughtily announced, "The meeting in the conference room starts promptly at 9 o’clock!"

The room fell silent in her presence, but as soon as she left, a wave of complaints followed.

Glancing at her notebook to check the time, Emma realized it was almost time.

"Is there something big happening today? It seems quite formal," whispered a colleague behind Emma to another.

Emma really wanted to tell them their voices were too loud! Whispering should be respected as such.

"I heard Sofia Greenwood has completed a major project and is officially coming back," murmured the colleague.

"What?" exclaimed another woman nearby, "Sofia Greenwood is returning?"

The group leaned back in their chairs, as if Greenwood’s return spelled doom for them.

Emma Hart had no particular feelings about Sofia Greenwood. She decided to just focus on her work.

Pushed by her colleagues into the meeting room, Emma found a seat.

It was already 9 o’clock, but Sofia Greenwood hadn’t arrived yet, creating a tense atmosphere in the room.

The widow stepped forward, "Who’s not here yet?"

After scanning the room, it appeared Amelia Davidson was the only one absent, giving the widow an opportunity to belittle her, murmuring, "All she knows is to chase men!"

"Never mind her," came a woman’s voice from behind the widow, followed by the swish of long, wavy hair.

The woman’s elegant demeanor, her high-end fashion accentuating her mature grace, commanded attention.

"Let’s start the meeting!" Sofia Greenwood clapped her hands, silencing everyone in anticipation of her speech.

Emma felt Greenwood’s commanding presence was somewhat reminiscent of Damien Sterling’s.

Sofia Greenwood, being Sterling’s childhood friend, indeed reflected her competency in managing the company.

Emma couldn’t help but admire Greenwood’s professional capabilities.

"Let’s move on to the latest personnel assignments," Sophia Greenwood dove straight into the agenda, assigning roles to various individuals.

When it came to Emma Hart, Sophia glanced at her and offered a kind look. "For client maintenance in the design department, we’ll have Emma Hart take charge."

After Sophia announced this assignment, it seemed to stir some dissatisfaction among the attendees.

Emma herself had little concept of such work, having always simply done as she was told.

Sophia’s decisive leadership style exuded a sense of efficiency. As the meeting wrapped up, she closed her laptop and took a sip of water from the cup beside her. "Emma Hart, could you stay behind for a moment?"

Everyone else filed out, leaving Emma alone in the room, under the curious gazes of her colleagues from the design department.

Now, it was just Emma Hart and Sophia Greenwood.

Sophia approached her politely, her eyes fixed on Emma’s abdomen. "You really can’t tell at all, which is great," Sophia said kindly, carefully inviting Emma to sit. "Take a break."

Emma hurriedly gestured no and glanced at the venetian blinds that hadn’t been drawn, noticing colleagues outside pretending to look elsewhere.

"Ms. Greenwood, welcome back. If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to work," Emma said nervously, fearful that Sophia might disclose her relationship with Damien Sterling to everyone.

"Don’t be in such a rush. I’ve just returned too; let’s chat for a bit," Sophia suggested.

What common ground could there be between a wealthy heiress and a girl from the slums?

Emma instinctively dodged Sophia’s outstretched hand, her recent reactions having been heightened, especially after being touched by Sophia. This might spiral out of control even if there was no reason for it.

Emma’s movement made Sophia realize she might have been too eager about the child, perhaps even a bit impatient.

Sophia moderated her tone, "Alright, let’s both be careful." Remembering she was now safeguarding the child of the man she loved brought a complex sense of sorrow to her heart.

Emma Hart nodded in gratitude, "Thank you, Sophia."

Sophia Greenwood replied with a gentle smile, "You’re Damien’s dear girlfriend. Of course, I’ll take good care of you. And about client maintenance, it’s really quite simple—just sending gifts now and then."

Sophia’s demeanor radiated consideration for Emma, who quickly expressed her thanks again.

Bathroom scene.

As Emma’s hand touched the doorknob, she overheard the gossiping whispers of women outside.

"What’s Emma Hart’s real story?" one woman scoffed while applying lipstick in front of the mirror.

Another, layering on thick foundation, spoke with unmistakable envy, "She can’t be all that upright. Maybe she’s involved with one of the executives. How else did she land such a cushy job?"

After the two women left the restroom, Emma emerged from the stall, her mood far from bright. Despite restraining herself from confronting them, it was clear her standing in the company was precarious, with many harboring misunderstandings about her.

Deciding to seek out Sophia Greenwood, Emma found her busy in her office from the moment she arrived.

Upon entering and knocking, Sophia momentarily flashed a look of disgust, which quickly vanished upon seeing Emma.

Sophia stood up with feigned enthusiasm, "Oh, it’s Emma! Come in, have a seat. Don’t be shy."

But only Sophia knew the extent of her insincerity, possibly harboring more dislike for Emma and the child she was carrying than anyone else in the world.

"Sophia, there’s something I need to discuss," Emma began hesitantly.

"What is it?" Sophia looked at Emma with feigned concern, "You can tell me anything. Don’t feel uncomfortable!"

Emma, reassured by Sophia’s sincere gaze, nodded, "I was wondering if there might be something else I could do?"

Sophia’s grip on Emma’s hand momentarily loosened, her heart sinking, "Oh? What’s the matter? You know, managing client relationships is quite straightforward—just buying gifts. That’s the easiest task. Considering your usual closeness to Damien Sterling, your perspective must be quite broad. That’s why I thought you’d be ideal for this position."

Seeing Emma Hart’s lack of enthusiasm for her job, Sofia Greenwood stepped forward to encourage her, "Emma, don’t feel burdened. What’s most important is that you truly excel at your
