Chapter 966: Chapter 959: The Only Existence

In response, everyone slowly lowered their weapons, and Feng, whom Talis was most concerned about, also sheathed his sword with slow and graceful movements.

"Are all these members of your team monsters?" Talis looked around before her gaze settled on Feng once again.

"That’s not a nice adjective," Luo’er said indifferently.

She pursed her lips, pondered for a moment, and then brought the conversation back to the main topic, "Alright, we encountered a terrifying monster attack inside the tomb, and all of my teammates were wiped out. Since you warned me at the beginning, does that mean you have also encountered this monster?"

"Yes, the night before you entered the tomb, we were attacked by the monster of the island, injuring several people. As you saw outside, those campsites at the entrance of the tomb were attacked a few days ago, dozens of mercenaries, all dead within the camp."

"Damn it," Talis lowered her head and murmured in annoyance, "If I had known it would be like this, I should not have rushed in so hastily."

"I found it strange too," Luo’er couldn’t help but say upon hearing her mutter, "Didn’t you see the bodies in the tents when you arrived?"

"We didn’t notice," Talis said, biting her lip, "Xia Yue Island was pushing us so hard, we had no time to stop, only thinking about finding the item and returning to Xia Yue Island quickly."

"Why the rush?" Luo’er couldn’t help asking.

"That’s none of your business," Talis retorted, looking up with a frown.

"Okay," Luo’er shrugged and continued to ask, "Since you’ve entered the tomb, you must have a rough understanding of the situation inside, right?"

"There were many bodies inside the tomb, lying in disarray. At first, it didn’t seem too bad, but the deeper we went, the more bodies we found. I wish we had known to retreat from the tomb back then," Talis said, regretful once more.

"It sounds like the remaining mercenaries ended up mostly dead inside the tomb," Luo’er mused, turning to look at Cheng Ziang.

"You were also attacked by that monster, and a few people died?" Talis asked Luo’er.

"No one died, just a few were injured," Luo’er replied truthfully.

"No one died? How is that possible?" Talis asked, baffled.

"Do you know how that monster kills?" Luo’er counter-questioned.

"Not really sure," Talis said, looking down deep in thought, then hesitantly added, "We saw it pass through one of our teammates, and he died immediately. I assume the monster must have taken his soul."

"Taken his soul? It’s Magic Power Erosion. Didn’t you notice any disturbance in the magic energy in the air when you were attacked?" Luo’er said, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Magic Power Erosion, that’s impossible, we are Elves," Talis shook her head.

"I am also an Elf, albeit a mixed-race one," Luo’er said, shaking his head again, "The magical aptitude of the Elf Race is indeed higher than other races, but there are limits, and it’s impossible to be completely immune to the erosion of magic. That night, if not for Fula...I, too, would have died under that monster’s attack."

"Are you saying that monster killed my teammates with magic?" Talis asked, her face stern.

"Of course," Luo’er glanced at her, then said with a sigh, "If you don’t even understand the method of the monster’s attack, then no matter how many more people come, they’d only be heading to their deaths."

"How do you know about the monster’s method of attack with magic?" Talis asked.

"Because we are from Earth," Luo’er explained calmly.

Upon hearing Luo’er’s explanation, Talis gave him a disdainful glance and fell silent. It was clear that the Elves still held considerable hostility toward the people from Earth, just like the Wood Elves back in Ilanadale.

"Since you have figured out that monster’s attack modes, do you have a way to deal with her?" Talis asked.

"Of course, we do, or we wouldn’t have mentioned conditions," Luo’er said, shrugging.

"What way?" Talis asked.

"To withstand that monster’s attacks, it’s best to have a Mage set up a Defense Shield to absorb the concentrated magic power; otherwise, it will pass through the body, causing the victim to die instantly," Luo’er explained.

"I’m well aware of that," Talis interrupted impatiently and then, frowning, said, "We’ve tried to resist as well, but the monster’s attacks are so swift that even Mages struggle to withstand her onslaught."

"That monster is essentially a god, and mere mortals can’t stand against a god," Luo’er continued.

"What did you say, that monster is a god?" Talis widened her eyes and stared intently at Luo’er.

"What is your definition of a god?" Rather than answering directly, Luo’er shifted the topic.

Talis pursed her lips, sensing that Luo’er was speaking in riddles, so she did not rush to answer but instead looked at him with a puzzled expression.

"From our experience, gods usually have the following characteristics," Luo’er elucidated, "First, they live amidst magic power and are immortal; second, they can manipulate magic power at will without succumbing to Magic Power Erosion, which allows them to use virtually unlimited magic; third, most gods are incorporeal, their bodies either composed of magic or intangible, yet omnipresent—this is our definition of gods."

Talis squinted and frowned as she continued to fix her gaze on Luo’er, disagreeing with his statement, yet finding no words to refute him, so she remained silent.

Luo’er stretched out his hand, palm facing upward, and Fulajie’er, seeing this, obediently flew into the centre of his hand and sat down, squinting and looking up at Luo’er with a contented expression.

Seeing Fulajie’er again, Talis, who had been squinting, suddenly opened her eyes wide with surprise, gazing at the small, almost transparent, and reflective girl in front of her with a hint of awe in her eyes.

"In a way, Fula is a god, just a demigod, because she isn’t completely invincible and still has weaknesses. But even so, she alone could cause all of us here to be annihilated," Luo’er said, looking at Fulajie’er.

"Eh, what, Luo’er, why would I want to hurt you? I wouldn’t harm everyone," Fulajie’er blinked in surprise and then, twisting her little face, said with an aggrieved look.

"It’s just an example, don’t take it to heart," Luo’er immediately panicked upon seeing her expression and hurriedly explained.

"Wuwu, I don’t like such examples," Fulajie’er said with a mournful face.

"Alright, alright, I won’t use that kind of example again," Luo’er quickly comforted her.

"Sigh, just when things were getting serious, this happens..." Watching their interaction, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but chuckle and touch his face in a reflective gesture.

After a slight cough, Luo’er straightened his expression and then looked at Talis, saying, "I don’t quite understand your beliefs, but to us, that’s what a god is. The monster is a god, we have a god, and we use a god to fight a god; that’s one of the reasons we were lucky enough to escape that night."

"I have a question, but I don’t think you will answer it," Talis mused.

"Ask away, maybe we will answer," Luo’er said with an open-handed gesture.

"Your... god, where exactly did you get her from?" Talis asked, frowning as she stared at Fulajie’er, voicing the question that had long been hidden at the bottom of her heart.

"Have you ever heard of the Deity Creation Project by the Ancient States?" Instead of a direct answer, Luo’er asked lightly.

"What did you say, Deity Creation Project? Are you saying those people from the Ancient States succeeded?" Hearing Luo’er’s question, Talis fell into shock once again.
