Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 965 - 958: Equal Dialogue
Chapter 965: Chapter 958: Equal Dialogue
"We have always treated you with courtesy, and even sent Fula to protect you, and this is how you repay us? It’s true what they say about no good deed going unpunished. Tell me, are you planning to wait to be tightly bound, or would you rather be treated as a friend?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking indifferently at his fingernails.
"What right do people from the Otherworld have to become our friends? If you could rescue me, why didn’t you rescue my teammates as well? You’re too selfish." Talis challenged without any sign of backing down.
"You..." Cheng Ziang stared at her, momentarily taken aback by her attitude before he practically burst into laughter. He shook his head helplessly, then suddenly hardened his expression and said coldly, "Take her down!"
"Understood!" Hu Daoke, eager and ready, had long been dissatisfied with this Night Elf.
Realizing she was about to suffer, Talis, naturally unwilling to be captured, targeted the nearest unarmed Axia and lunged at her with bared teeth and claws.
Wham!!!
Just as her fingertips were about to touch Axia’s clothes, a piercing chill ran through them again. She retracted her hand in pain, only to find her fingernails were all neatly sliced off, exposing the tender flesh underneath. Blood seeped from her fingers, making her tremble in pain.
"I told you it’s best not to act rashly," Cheng Ziang turned to glance at Feng, who was sheathing his knife, and then shook his head with a smile saying, "This little girl behind me is rather fond of chopping off other people’s limbs."
"Enough," Luo’er, unable to stand it any longer, waved his hand and said, "Everyone, calm down a bit. Aunt Axia, I hope you can explain the situation to her properly."
"I know," Axia nodded, then turned to look at Talis and asked, "How can we earn your trust?"
"You explain your identities and origins clearly." Talis made her first demand.
"This..." Axia hesitated for a moment and then turned to look at Luo’er. Actually, she hesitated mainly because she was curious as well, so this was a good opportunity to get some clarity.
"Our organization has a beneficial relationship with Ilanadale, so we requested their help to rescue Luo’er when he was unconscious; Ilanadale agreed," Cheng Ziang preempted with a casual explanation.
His explanation, in some respects, wasn’t problematic because Luo’er was indeed treated by Ilanadale at the behest of headquarters and not due to his own relationship with Ilanadale.
"What a joke, Ilanadale would never help an outsider, especially in establishing a link with a half-breed," Talis retorted coldly.
"Heh, the real joke seems to be on you. If our organization provides enough benefit to Ilanadale, why wouldn’t they help us? Interest is the most useful bargaining chip in the world. As long as the benefits are substantial, there’s nothing that can’t be done on this earth," Cheng Ziang replied with a cold laugh.
"I don’t believe you!" Talis answered back coldly.
"Ah, come on, let’s just teach her a lesson already, this girl really doesn’t know how to appreciate kindness," Hu Daoke said with growing impatience.
"What are you planning to do?" Hearing his words, Talis looked around warily and asked.
"You listen to me," Cheng Ziang also grew impatient and stared at her, "It’s a favor, not an obligation, that we helped you. You have no right to question why we didn’t rescue your teammates, because we have no reason to assist all of you. We saved you to achieve certain goals, to facilitate an exchange of benefits. Don’t put on an act as if the whole world owes you anything."
"Talis," Luo’er patiently played the good cop, "We indeed don’t have any conflict of interest with each other. If you can let go of your prejudices, and everyone puts forward their requests and have an honest dialogue, I believe we can reach a mutually satisfactory outcome. What do you think?"
"With the way things are now, do you think I can let go of so-called prejudices?" Talis surveyed her surroundings, then asked Luo’er coldly.
"Even if we treat you courteously, I doubt you’d put aside your prejudices and patiently listen to us speak," Luo’er said placidly.
"Fine, I’ll put aside my prejudices. Have your people back off," Talis said.
"If you have a proper conversation with me, they won’t harm you. If you feel threatened by them being around you, it only means you have something to hide," Luo’er refused her demand without backing down.
"Fine..." Talis nodded, realizing that fussing was futile, and finally decided to lower her pride and have a face-to-face conversation with Luo’er.
"What are you doing on Xia Yue Island?" Talis asked, leading with her question.
"Because I want to sever my link with Tana, Aunt Axia told me that Xia Yue Island might have the capacity to do so," Luo’er answered truthfully.
"You actually want to sever the link with Tana? Are you thinking of converting to Xiapei Kam?" Talis frowned and asked.
"Don’t get me wrong, I believe in no gods; I simply do not wish to be controlled by Tana. If you can help, then in return, we will also help you," Luo’er responded.
"To think you Otherworlders actually have no faith..." Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, Talis murmured with a perplexed expression.
"Alright, it’s my turn now. What are you guys doing here in Snow Domain?" Luo’er asked.
Upon hearing his words, Talis took a deep breath, and then, with a concerned look on her face, she asked as she glanced around, "Are there any followers of Tana among you?"
"Of course not." Luo’er nodded affirmatively.
"That’s good," Talis nodded and finally made up her mind to speak out, "Actually, we came to Snow Domain mainly to look for something."
"What is it?" Luo’er asked.
"I don’t know, it was an order from the high command. All I know is that this thing seems to be called... Prime Fluid..." Talis said, pursing her lips.
"Prime Fluid, what is that?" Luo’er asked.
"I already said I don’t know," Talis replied with a frown.
"Then can you describe what it is?" Luo’er asked, gesturing.
"It’s a tubular object, about this big..." as she spoke, Talis made a small gesture to illustrate.
"No, wait, let me see... Damn, I left that drawing in the tomb!" Talis became agitated and then said through clenched teeth.
"So you came to this tomb because you think your so-called Prime Fluid is in this tomb?" Luo’er asked, squinting his eyes.
"Of course!" Talis nodded.
"Who told you that?" Luo’er asked.
"The high command," Talis gestured upwards, without giving a clear answer.
"What’s it used for?" Luo’er continued to inquire.
"You don’t need to worry about that," Talis immediately refused to answer.
"Alright then!" Luo’er nodded.
"And what about you? What are you looking for in this tomb?" Talis paused before questioning again.
"We’re looking for a book," Luo’er replied succinctly.
"A book?"
"Yes, a book," Luo’er nodded and then asked Talis, "Have you ever heard of the Ancestors’ Holy Book?"
"The Ancestors’ Holy Book..." Talis pondered for a moment with her head lowered, then raised her head and asked, "What do you need that for?"
"That’s probably none of your business, either," Luo’er said with a smile.
"Very well," Talis nodded, and then said, "What we want doesn’t conflict with your goal."
"Exactly, we enter the tomb together, we’ll find the Ancestors’ Holy Book, and then help you find the so-called Prime Fluid..." Luo’er spoke.
"In return, I help you get to Xia Yue Island and cut off your link with Tana," Talis offered.
"Wouldn’t that settle everything? Why did we have to argue for so long just now?" Luo’er asked with a smile.
"Can your people put down their weapons now?" Talis, covering a bleeding finger, looked around and then asked.
"Of course!" Luo’er nodded and then made a slight gesture.
