Chapter 917: Chapter 910: The Entire Army is Annihilated
The metallic automaton’s eyes were glowing with a faint luminescence, likely emitted by the activation of runes, and not only that, after it began to move, Tangmo could see a similar glowing at each of its joints, suggesting that they too were probably driven by runes.
What surprised Tangmo the most were its eyes, for she noticed that the pupils were not simply glowing, but composed of layered, ordered light. A closer look revealed that the pupils were themselves circular runes, the intricate patterns obscured by the dazzling glow.
"This is, this is a magic-powered mechanical doll!" Tangmo watched the automaton with horror, her voice trembling.
She looked around, Luo’er was rolling on the ground, moaning in pain, while Axia not far away was also clutching her head and howling. The only one in serious condition seemed to be Baiyue, who was motionless, prompting Tangmo to worry about her safety.
The metallic automaton quietly stood in front of the sarcophagus, then reached out slowly to close the lid. Perhaps it was an illusion, but Tangmo always felt the automaton was gazing at the sarcophagus’s occupant with a tender, sorrowful look in its eyes.
"Boss, are you all okay? I heard gunfire outside!" Just then, Hu Daoke’s voice came from the doorway, followed by his figure appearing at the entrance.
"Danger, get back!" Tangmo, sitting on the ground, shouted loudly as a warning.
"What?" Hu Daoke was stunned for a moment, not immediately grasping the situation.
The moment he stepped into the tomb, the metallic automaton suddenly turned around and initiated a new round of attack. It leaped on the spot and then lunged towards Hu Daoke at the door with such speed and agility that it far outmatched any human.
"Whoa, what’s this!" Before Hu Daoke could finish speaking, the metallic automaton was already in front of him, face to face.
Instinctively, Hu Daoke raised the light machine gun in his hands to block his chest, and the automaton’s strike hit it hard. The force was so strong that it sent the robust man flying from the doorway across ten meters, tumbling heavily to the ground and scattering his belongings.
Just as the automaton was about to turn back around, a cold light streaked towards it, prompting it to instinctively cross its arms in front. A clang resonated in the dark corridor as metal collided, sparks flew, and the automaton firmly blocked a slashing blow from above.
The attacker was Feng; despite her usual demure appearance, when her companions were harmed, she struck with a ferocity unmatched by others.
At this moment, she was glaring with wide eyes, teeth clenched in fury at the automaton. Seeing her attack foiled, Feng swiftly retreated a few steps and then, slicing upwards, unleashed a sword qi towards the automaton.
Regrettably, the automaton showed no sign of injury from her sword qi, and it didn’t even cause a spark upon impact. Hence, the automaton didn’t bother to make a defensive move.
However, for Feng, an unsuccessful attack was nothing out of the ordinary. Having launched her sword qi, she followed through with her figure, attacking the metallic automaton once more.
Several clangs followed, and all of Feng’s strikes were firmly blocked by the automaton, rendering them ineffective. The automaton, with only its arms, had withstood Feng’s thunderous assaults.
"Feng, retreat!" Just then, Feng heard Hu Daoke’s cautioning shout from behind and quickly stepped back.
In the instant she retreated, Hu Daoke, seated on the ground with his light machine gun, opened fire. A barrage of bullets struck the automaton, creating a chime-like clatter. Its body flickered with the familiar white light of Defense Runes, which Hu Daoke recognized as a response to the impact.
"Shit, Breaking Method rounds, Feng, hold her off!" Hu Daoke cursed, hurriedly releasing the trigger and quickly bending down to switch the type of ammunition.
As Hu Daoke ceased fire, the metallic automaton surged forward, attempting to attack Hu Daoke. However, as soon as it rose, Feng’s longsword arrived as expected.
With a horizontal slash, she struck at the automaton’s abdomen, a joint-dense area. Although her attack still had no effect, the automaton seemed quite wary, promptly focusing its attention on Feng.
Back in the main tomb chamber, once the automaton was drawn away by Hu Daoke, Tangmo began to administer aid. Although she appeared disheveled, she wasn’t much injured; most of it was likely soft tissue contusion.
She struggled to get up from the ground and then turned around and asked with concern, "Luo’er, are you okay?"
"I’m fine, check on Yue’er!" Luo’er, having caught his breath, took a deep breath, then struggled to get up from the ground and waved his hand awkwardly as he spoke.
He mostly had soft tissue contusions; there were no serious injuries. However, the somewhat bruised mark on his neck looked rather chilling.
In no regard for the slippery, wet ground, Tangmo rolled and crawled to Baiyue’s side and then began to check her injuries with a trace of panic. From outward appearances, Baiyue’s injuries seemed quite severe; blood was flowing from her mouth and nose, and there was a bloody wound on her head, steadily bleeding.
After a moment of confusion, Tangmo swallowed nervously and started to check her injuries. Although her external injuries looked terrifying, they were actually minor and not life-threatening. Tangmo was more worried about possible internal injuries.
Upon further examination, her heart that had been hanging in suspense was finally able to let go halfway. Baiyue was still breathing, and there were no serious injuries on the surface of her body. Right now, she was in a coma, and the bloody wound on her head was likely the main reason for it.
"Yue’er’s external injuries are not serious, but she seems to have internal injuries and is now in a coma," Tangmo reported without looking back.
"Aunt Axia, are you okay?" While Tangmo was checking on Baiyue, Luo’er staggered over to Axia and asked with concern.
"I’m fine, we need to get out of here!" Axia rubbed the back of her head and said with a frowned brow.
"But, the ancestors..." Luo’er said, looking longingly toward the coffin.
"Forget about that now. We can’t defeat that puppet. If you open that coffin again, it will surely come back to attack us, and then none of us will be able to escape," Axia gasped and told him.
"Luo’er, Yue’er, she seems to be vomiting blood..." At that moment, Tangmo turned her head, her voice breaking with a sob.
Accompanying her voice, Baiyue, who was in a coma, suddenly coughed violently, immediately spewing out a large amount of blood, which was frightfully shocking to see.
"Go, go, everyone evacuate," Luo’er clenched his teeth, rushed to Baiyue’s side, scooped her up, and then commanded Tangmo loudly, "Help Aunt Axia, and everyone leave this tomb chamber!"
"Yes!" Tangmo nodded and then struggled to stand up from the ground and ran over to support Axia.
"Don’t worry about me, I can walk on my own, little genius. Hold onto your magic wand tightly, and be ready to defend against that puppet at any moment," Axia interrupted her movements and said to her seriously.
"I understand!" A bit dazed, Tangmo nodded and then shakily drew the magic wand from her waist.
Outside the passage, the fierce battle continued. Feng’s offensive moves were sharp, but she couldn’t do anything to the metal puppet in front of her, and after several rounds, she was starting to get irritated.
"Defense Runes, eh," Hu Daoke muttered through clenched teeth as he changed magazines, then got up from the ground and, holding the light machine gun, commanded loudly, "Feng, fall back!"
Upon hearing Hu Daoke’s command, Feng once again retreated away from the metal puppet. At that moment, Hu Daoke pulled the trigger again, and the light machine gun roared with anger.
This time Hu Daoke used Breaking Method bullets, which were specifically designed for these types of Defense Runes. However, as he fired, Hu Daoke sensed that something was off. He noticed that when the bullets hit the metal puppet, the white light vanished, but a discordant sound of metal tearing followed.
Like petals scattered by a heavenly maiden, numerous fragments sprayed out behind the puppet, hitting the hard stone walls with a dense barrage of collisions.
"Kedal metal, shit!" Seeing this, Hu Daoke couldn’t help but curse out loud.
