Chapter 795: Chapter 788: Breakthrough
Just as they were chatting, suddenly, Feng, standing beside Luoer, abruptly drew her long blade. The blade emitted a series of cries, leaving those unaware to believe she intended to assault Luoer.
Of course, Luoer knew perfectly well that Feng wouldn’t do such a thing. The reason for her drawing the blade was rather a sign that danger was present. She gripped the hilt tightly, furrowed her brows, and stared intently at the ground.
"Luoer, the enemies have entered the inn." At this time, Fulajie’er’s voice came into his mind. Before going upstairs, he had asked Fulajie’er to stay at the front door as a precaution against covert attacks.
"Check weapon ammunition, Little Ke, pack up our confiscated weapons. Prepare to evacuate," Luoer calmly ordered.
"Where are we going?" Eve, holding onto Jora, asked nervously.
"Of course, to a safe place," Luoer responded.
This situation could only be described as within the realm of reason, but beyond the realm of expectation. He had been hoping to lay low in the inn for a few more days, but it now seemed unrealistic. Since these people had already found them, they had to change their location.
According to Luoer’s previous arrangement, he should take Eve and her brother in a carriage to the academy. But as Momo had expressed concern, the intelligence agency still didn’t know who had taken Eve. If they found out that the Advance Team already had Eve, they would definitely try to kill her at all costs. The academy, therefore, might not necessarily be a safe refuge. It could, in fact, indirectly lead to her death.
"Boss, should we give them weapons?" Hu Daoke, holding a light machine gun, walked up to Luoer and asked.
"No need, they’ll pose more danger than the enemy if they get a hold of the guns. Feng and us are enough, we do not need unreliable firepower," Luoer shook his head and refuted.
"Alright, let’s just give it our all!" Hu Daoke said as he excitedly pulled the bolt of his gun. The bag of assault rifles and ammunition on his back seemed weightless, showing no signs of burdening him.
"Check the magic silencer, determine the replacement timing," Luoer continued to instruct calmly.
"I’ve already checked it, a silencer is replaced every two magazines," Hu Daoke patted his chest and assured.
Because it was an experimental product, the reliability of the Magic Silencer was not strong yet. In the tests, there were frequently signs of the Magic Crystal slipping off due to fluctuations at the muzzle. For the time being, the researchers didn’t have good solutions and could only suggest to the Advance Team members not to use automatic firing for extended periods.
Hu Daoke thought the researchers’ suggestions were foolish because a good product should adapt to the user, not the other way around. The purpose of a light machine gun was to suppress the enemy. Extensive firing is a standard operation. If the Magic Silencer imposed a restriction that led to single-shot firing, there would be no need for a light machine gun. We might as well use bolt-action rifles instead.
"Fula, confirm the enemy’s weapons and personnel situation. Feng, prepare to meet the enemy. After eliminating the enemies inside, clear a path to the backyard," Luoer continued giving orders.
"Understood!" Fulajie’er called back and disappeared from sight once again.
Fulajie’er was not yet particularly proficient at reconnaissance, but she had already made great progress compared to before. Her main issues were in the recognition of weapons and some terms not being concise enough, but that was it.
Luoer turned to look at Feng. She stood silently, gripping her blade tightly with an expression as calm as still water on her face.
With Feng present, Luoer wasn’t particularly perturbed about their safety. Instead, he was worried that if Feng went all out and caused a huge commotion, the secular government would likely get involved. If that happened, they would face the Booze Ghost Gang and Holy Heart City’s secular military at the same time. Escaping then wouldn’t be as easy.
So, for the time being, staying low key was the best approach. Otherwise, he would have already given Feng the green light to go on a killing spree. In a complex city setting like this, Feng’s perception would undoubtedly be a weapon on par with firearms. Plus, coupled with her magic formulas, she was virtually unbeatable.
Since the other side had hunted them down, Luoer naturally had to activate a contingency plan. His current plan was to first ascertain how many enemies had entered the inn. After dealing with them, they would choose a relatively concealed route to leave the commercial district and enter the slums.
This was a commercial district, not suitable for combat, or at least not suitable for the Advance Team. Luoer knew that once they engaged with the enemy here, the Holy Heart City’s army might likely intervene. Fleeing then would become problematic.
"Luoer, there are more than ten enemies coming this way, most of them seem to be armed. There appear to be three carrying rifles, a few with handguns, and some with knives..." In a short while, Fulajie’er returned to Luoer’s side and reported.
"Understood." Although Fulajie’er’s report was not detailed, Luoer already had a sense of their situation.
These men were not equipped with assault rifles like they were before, which showed they were not elite forces. This made it easier for him to eliminate them.
"Feng, you take the lead and cover us down the stairs. You two, follow me. Little Ke will cover our rear." After a brief moment of thought, Luoer made his arrangement.
"Aren’t you going to give us weapons?" Eve asked nervously while hugging Jora.
"Weapons are useless for you two, just follow our instructions and don’t make any noise." Luoer glanced at her and said.
He admired the boy named Jora very much. Despite his young age, he was very mature and didn’t seem too scared under such circumstances.
"Fula, provide reconnaissance for us and make sure no one ambushes us." Luoer then loudly commanded.
"Roger that!" Fulajie’er responded diligently.
"Who are you talking to?" Eve asked as she stared at him with wide eyes.
Luoer ignored her and instead pulled out his pistol to check it, before patting Feng on the shoulder. He nodded in understanding, unsheathed his knife and opened the door, walking sturdily towards the stairs.
At the end of the long hallway, there was a window on either side, offering a decent overall visibility. However, this was rather useless for Feng as she did not rely on vision.
She walked confidently at the front, her long knife hanging low, the diamond-shaped tip almost touching the ground.
Suddenly, she twisted her wrist, slashing upwards with her knife. Not far away, an enemy who had just stepped onto the staircase at the end of the corridor stumbled onto a wall, his neck burst open with a mist of blood, spraying the corridor wall with blood in an instant.
Following that, she rotated the blade again and slashed downwards abruptly. Another enemy who had climbed up the stair and appeared at the end of the corridor stumbled forward, and then fell to his knees.
What was terrifying was that his head did not follow the movement of his body, but rather rolled backward from his neck and down the stairs.
The man fell to the ground in a worshiping posture, and a spurt of blood gushed out from his neck instantly, covering the entire corridor floor.
"Feng, your...never mind, do as you will" Watching Feng’s two kills and the bloody scene could even make Luoer—used to fighting for many years—feel sick.
However, he didn’t stop Feng, because amidst the current peril, he felt he shouldn’t restrict her abilities. Instead, he should let her unleash her full strength. Excessive kindness could often put the whole team in danger.
After taking out the two reckless enemies, Feng’s long knife hung low once again, indicating that the enemies, scared out of their wits, dared not to rush forward anymore.
Feng sauntered over to the beheaded corpse lying on the ground, kicked it aside, her eyes showing no signs of fluctuation, as if she had killed two strawmen.
Luoer took a deep breath. The air was filled with a strong smell of blood, making him feel sick.
Feng’s attacks had a distinctive trait: they caused a large amount of bleeding. To kill a person, the best way to attack should be to stab or puncture. However, Feng’s attacks were mostly hacking, creating large wounds, causing the enemies to go into shock from the loss of a large volume of blood, and ultimately bleed to death.
