Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 671 - 664: Prophecy Imagination
Chapter 671: Chapter 664: Prophecy Imagination
Even though Nightingale had arranged for the advance team to rest, it seemed Zhuyan Yu had no intention of letting Tangmo off; she asked her to assist with her work. Tangmo’s magical aptitude was excellent, even earning the praise of Nightingale. Right now, she needed Tangmo’s help to answer several magic-related questions, so she kept her around.
Nightingale and Fulajie’er, the two sisters, hid in a corner of the cabin, exchanging thoughts silently. Nightingale was a person of a calm and serene temperament, often choosing to read a book if otherwise unoccupied.
After a brief moment of joy at reuniting with her sister, she once again picked up a thick book, calmly immersing herself in reading. Fulajie’er seemed to also enjoy this wordless time, transforming herself into a figure seated cross-legged on the table, quietly observing her elder sister.
Tangmo and Zhuyan Yu were engrossed in research. Seeing Tangmo continuously solving several troublesome rune problems, Zhuyan Yu couldn’t help but lament, "The Otherworld is so unfair. Some people want to learn magic but don’t have the physical aptitude, destined to never possess magic in their lives."
"Hmm," upon hearing her lament, Tangmo looked at her, blinked, and asked, "Teacher, have you ever tested your magic aptitude?"
Zhuyan Yu shook her head, a bitter smile on her face, "Enough about that, it’s such a pity."
Ever since Zhuyan Yu was summoned to Earth, her body was restructured into the body of an Otherworlder, capable of channeling magic power.
She tested her magical aptitude a few days ago and was devastated to find that her aptitude was abysmal, just slightly better than Hu Daoke. This was a considerable blow to her, given her deep love for magic.
"It’s okay, knowledge of magic theory is also important. Some people have insufficient magic aptitude but can become excellent Rune Engravers." Tangmo consoled.
"Sigh," Zhuyan Yu exhaled, then responded, "Actually, I’ve already accepted it, but still, thank you."
With that, she habitually reached out, ruffling Tangmo’s hair. Tangmo closed her eyes, enjoying the touch.
As she ran her fingers through Tangmo’s soft hair, Zhuyan Yu was once again reminded of the girl named Feng, prompting her to ask, "What exactly is the story with that girl named Feng?"
Tangmo was taken aback for a moment, and then she roughly described to Zhuyan Yu what happened in the epidemic area, particularly focusing on the scene of Feng battling the enemy.
"So, the prophet handed Feng over to Luo’er because he had already seen the future and knew what was going to happen?" It was evident that Zhuyan Yu’s main focus was not on Feng’s combat abilities.
"Yes!" Tangmo nodded in agreement.
"The Drexia Prophecy Collection..." Zhuyan Yu, with a frown, contemplated for a moment, then turned to Nightingale not far away and asked, "Nightingale, do you know about the Drexia Prophecy Collection?"
Hearing her words, Nightingale looked surprised, raised her head, and asked them, "That’s a forbidden book of the Church Court, you’ve seen it?"
"It’s already been burned." Fulajie’er blinked and replied.
"Oh!" Hearing this, Nightingale showed a hint of disappointment before continuing with her reading.
"The Prophecy Collection predicts the future, who will see this book in the future, what will become of the book, everything is written in the book. The prophet said Luo’er is Feng’s destiny and will guide her to fulfill her mission," Tangmo seriously explained.
"Do you believe in such things as causality?" Zhuyan Yu frowned and asked.
"Ah," Tangmo stopped for a moment, then pouted and muttered, "Of course, I don’t believe it. I’m obviously Luo’er’s destiny. However..."
"However, what?" Zhuyan Yu pressed.
"Luo’er seems to have read this book. The prophet said that whether Luo’er would read it and what he would see were all already written in the Prophecy Collection," Tangmo thought for a moment before answering.
"So Luo’er saw the prophecy and knows what will happen in the future?" Zhuyan Yu’s face became serious.
"Not really..." Tangmo shook her head in response.
"How can he not?" Zhuyan Yu asked, stunned.
"Because Luo’er said he couldn’t understand the ancient Aud text..." Tangmo shrugged, revealing a helpless expression.
"He can’t understand?" Zhuyan Yu was dumbfounded upon hearing this.
"Exactly." Tangmo nodded in affirmation.
"Then why did he burn the book?" Zhuyan Yu asked anxiously.
"The prophet burned the book." Seeing the agitated look on Zhuyan Yu, Tangmo said somewhat fearfully.
"What a pity..." Upon hearing the news, Zhuyan Yu couldn’t resist lamenting grudgingly.
Hearing Zhuyan Yu’s sighs, Nightingale, who was quietly reading in a corner, finally couldn’t help but interject. She closed the book in her hands, took off her round glasses, and began to clean them with a silk cloth, saying, "Do you know why the ’Drexia Prophecy Collection’ is listed as a forbidden book by the Church Court?"
"Why?" The two turned to Nightingale and simultaneously asked.
"Because those who have read the Prophecy Collection have either gone mad or died. Of course, the majority have died, by suicide!" Nightingale shrugged her shoulders, speaking blandly.
"Why is that?" Tangmo asked, his eyes wide.
"Knowing the future means that there is no anticipation for the future, no matter how you struggle, it’s all in vain, you can’t escape the shackles of fate. If the prophecy says you will die today, no matter how hard you struggle to survive, you won’t live until tomorrow. Therefore, many people, after seeing their destiny, despairingly choose to live in resignation, each day eking out their finite lifespan." Nightingale stared at the scenery outside the window, speaking in a trance.
"I don’t believe it. Can’t our subjective initiative change our destiny? My life is determined by me, not fate." Zhuyan Yu said, frowning.
"A person’s subjective initiative can only transform laws, not change them, you should understand this method better than I do, right?" Nightingale spoke indifferently.
Zhuyan Yu was left speechless by her words, silently lowering her head. After a moment of silence, Nightingale continued, "The Prophecy Collection is not some work of demons or ghosts, it is simply a narration of certain people and things. Maybe some four-dimensional creature saw the future of some people and events and wrote this prophecy to tell the three-dimensional creatures. Based on our understanding of the unknown, we are hence filled with fear, just like how we can completely block all paths for a two-dimensional creature by drawing a circle on a sheet of paper, they too will feel immense fear!"
The reason Nightingale was valued by the headquarters was not only because she was skilled in magic, but more importantly, she was extremely knowledgeable, possessing a deep understanding of both the Otherworld and Earth.
"We should be thankful that Luo’er can’t understand the text. If he could, as a half-elf, he would live in suffering for the next hundreds of years because he would be unable to change his destiny..." Nightingale paused, then added, "Probably..."
People are different. Some become desperate and extreme when they know they can’t control their destiny, while others don’t care. They would spend each predictable tomorrow with a calm attitude.
Upon hearing her words, Tangmo clutched his chest, exhaling deeply. He said, "Luckily I didn’t read the Prophecy Collection, luckily Luo’er can’t understand it. I was even thinking about asking him to look at our future, good thing... good thing..."
"Luo’er can’t understand the Prophecy Collection..." Zhuyan Yu mumbled to herself, feeling there was something suspicious about the matter.
"Shouldn’t you be worried about Feng’s way of using magic, teacher?" Tangmo looked at her and asked.
"Oh right," Zhuyan Yu paused before quickly responding, "Right right, you’re right, I almost forgot about that, I was still worried about this matter..."
After a pause, she looked at Tangmo and asked, "What do you know about Feng’s method of using magic?"
"Well, she gathers the magic power in her belly, below her navel. I think I heard Yue’er calling it Dantian. She usually accumulates magic power in her Dantian, and once in a fight, she can instantly release it. The power is astonishing," Tangmo said, lowering his head in thought before looking towards Nightingale, "Uh, Nightingale, what do you know?"
Hearing her words, Nightingale closed her book once more, took off her round glasses and was silent for a moment, then said coldly, "They’re foreigners!"
