Chapter 670: Chapter 663: An Embarrassing End

"Is that so?" Zhuyan Yu said, smiling at Luo’er.

"Yes, Carter is Feliz’s half-brother from the same father, previously serving the king in Holy Heart City, and then being selected as the regiment commander of the Church Court’s Purification Army." Luo’er nodded, speaking earnestly.

"Ah..." Upon seeing Luo’er’s serious demeanor, Zhuyan Yu shook her head slightly in disappointment, exhaling deeply.

"Stop teasing, teacher. In this lifetime, I’m not settling for anyone but Luo’er," Tangmo said shyly, pulling on Zhuyan Yu’s hand and keeping her voice low.

With that statement, the atmosphere became awkward. Zhuyan Yu noticed Baiyue’s body subtly trembling when Tangmo made her declaration. As the focus of the situation, Luo’er was at a loss, standing frozen. All except Feng and Fulajie’er felt the embarrassing tension mounting.

As to why they weren’t embarrassed, it was primarily because neither of them understood Chinese.

"Luo’er," Nightingale, who’d been quietly conversing with Fulajie’er in a corner, suddenly called in her high-pitched voice. "Come here!"

"Okay!" Luo’er felt like he was being rescued. He hurried over, wondering if Nightingale was doing this intentionally.

"Give me back Fulajie’s pendant!" Nightingale held out a fair palm and said to him.

"Uh, the pendant..." Luo’er, somewhat stunned, patted around his pockets then looked at Baiyue.

Feeling Luo’er’s gaze, Baiyue lowered her head and walked towards him, taking the pendant from around her neck. Instead of handing it directly to Nightingale, she gave it to Luo’er.

Feeling the residual warmth on the pendant, Luo’er handed it over to Nightingale. She kept it after a quick glance then questioned Luo’er, "Didn’t I ask you to protect it closely? Why did you hand it over to someone else?"

"Uh, well..." Luo’er scratched his head, a cold sweat forming on his back. After an awkward pause, he stuttered, "Well, I... I trust Baiyue, so... I believed she would protect the pendant with her life, right?"

With that, Luo’er looked at Baiyue, who was taken aback before looking back at him. Baiyue quickly lowered her head and murmured, "Yes, y-yes."

Seeing the reactions of Luo’er and Baiyue, Nightingale sighed silently. An exasperated look crossed her undisturbed face. She directed her gaze at the others and flatly stated, "The time for pleasantries has passed. Get on with your work and don’t delay the mission. Colonel Zhu, you are one of the people in charge of this mission. You do know what needs to be done now, don’t you?"

"Of course..." An embarrassed expression crept across Zhuyan Yu’s face. She let go of Tangmo and returned to her seat.

"You Advance Team members, rest up a little. As soon as we have the virus sample, you’re going to leave immediately and get it back here as soon as possible." Nightingale told the members of the Advance Team, keeping her face expressionless.

"Yes..." Everyone nervously nodded. Nightingale’s aura was so powerful that even Feng, who knew little about worldly matters, was tense. His eyes remained fixed on her.

"Oh my, it was about to become awkward. Sister Moumou is still as candid as ever..." Hu Daoke sat down in the Airship diner and sighed appreciatively after finding a chair.

"Your sister Moumou, having experienced so much, still doesn’t know how to read the room. It’s a headache." Cheng Ziang said as he sat down next to him.

"You can’t wholly blame Sister Moumou, it’s just her nature..." Hu Daoke attempted to defend her.

"Of course, we can’t entirely blame Moumou. Luo’er brought it upon himself." Cheng Ziang sighed heavily.

"Let’s not meddle in matters of the heart, lest we stir up a commotion." Hu Daoke commented whilst playing with a napkin.

"Aren’t you usually into this sort of thing?" Cheng Ziang shot him a cunning smile.

"Who’s into it? You make it sound as though I’m the only one who likes gossip. You, a grown man, gossip just as much as I—if not more." Hu Daoke retorted, frowning.

"I was led down that path by you." Cheng Ziang retorted with a thick-skinned smile.

Hearing his words, Hu Daoke rolled his eyes and didn’t continue the conversation. He lay back and was silent for a while, then turned to Cheng Ziang and said, "Speaking of which, you’ve been quite ambiguous toward Feng lately, haven’t you?"

Cheng Ziang threw him a glance. His mouth twitched, then he shook his head and said, "Where do you see the ambiguity?"

"You don’t have any?" Hu Daoke asked.

"Of course not!" Cheng Ziang replied without hesitation.

"That’s good then!" Hu Daoke nodded in satisfaction after hearing this.

"So, are you planning on having an affair again?" Cheng Ziang pursued.

"Don’t talk nonsense, I’m just keeping an eye on you for Luoya." Hu Daoke said.

"What does Luoya’s business have to do with you?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking puzzled.

"What do you know? I’m now the sworn brother of the big boss, so to some extent, Luoya is also my younger sister." Hu Daoke explained.

"Luoya is much older than you." Cheng Ziang reminded him.

"Well, then she’s my older sister," Hu Daoke waved his hand dismissively and then said with moral righteousness, "In any case, I have to keep an eye on you for her. You once pledged your love to her, don’t forget that."

"Did you eavesdrop on our conversation?" Cheng Ziang looked at him in surprise, frowning.

"What’s wrong with what you said? You guys weren’t whispering in bed, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to hear." Hu Daoke shrugged, "I heard everything. Luoya is still waiting for you at Haiya Academy, don’t you dare fall for someone else."

Upon hearing this, Cheng Ziang leaned on the table, his cheek in his hand, and a gloomy look on his face as he spoke wistfully, "What do you think the future holds for Luoya and me?"

"What are you trying to say?" As his close friend, Hu Daoke immediately detected that there was more to Cheng Ziang’s words.

"I’m a mixed-blood Aud, and Luoya is a half-elf. When I reach a hundred, half of me would be in the coffin, and Luoya would still be in her prime. What would she do then?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking distressed.

"Don’t care too much about the reality in matters of the heart. A hundred years is too long, length of life is uncertain." Hu Daoke consoled.

"Even magic follows basic laws. Why shouldn’t love deal with reality?" Cheng Ziang shrugged.

"So you mean... forget about it?" Hu Daoke asked tentatively.

"I don’t know!" Cheng Ziang covered his face with a hand, shaking his head.

"Can I interpret that as you wanting to find another love?" Hu Daoke inquired.

"You... " Cheng Ziang glared at him and shook his head in exasperation.

"Don’t think too much for now. Perhaps Luoya has also found someone she adores at the Academy. This way you can free yourself early and openly pursue others." Hu Daoke got up to his side, draped an arm around his shoulder, and tried to comfort him.

"If that happens, you think I could be happy about it?" Cheng Ziang looked at Hu Daoke’s face close to his, speaking dejectedly.

"You’re such a pain. You’re allowed to have a backup plan, but not Luoya to pursue true love? You two aren’t even married, why are you controlling her?" Hu Daoke pushed him away, saying in a critical tone.

"So, you see, matters of the heart..." Cheng Ziang began to sigh.

"The simplicity and beauty of love is ruined by players like you!" Hu Daoke cut him off, his sentence blocking Cheng Ziang’s retort.

"I really envy people like you. Simple emotions, simple person..." Cheng Ziang reclined on his chair, glanced at him, and commented.

"Don’t think I didn’t catch that, are you calling me dumb?" Hu Daoke asked, eyes wide in indignation.

Cheng Ziang didn’t respond, he closed his eyes and remained silent for a moment, then said with a sense of resignation, "Earth people and Otherworld folks, the Elf Race, and the subspecies... star-crossed indeed..."
