Chapter 623 - 616: Facing Infection

Chapter 623: Chapter 616: Facing Infection

Luo’er, lost in thoughts, was suddenly yanked by Cheng Ziang. Turning his head, he said to Luo’er, "We should distance ourselves a bit and let her take care of it."

"But..." Luo’er looked worriedly at the girl.

"If she says she’s not afraid of getting infected, then we should trust her. She hasn’t become a Corpse Demon after the few months this plague zone has been overrun, which obviously means she’s got something that sets her apart." Cheng Ziang persuaded.

"Alright..." Looking at the girl’s retreating figure, Luo’er sighed and finally issued the command to retreat.

"Follow the road and wait for me at the other exit of the village. I’ll join you once I’ve dealt with these guys!" the girl said indifferently.

"Take care of yourself. If you can’t handle it, don’t force yourself. Run to us, we can help you!" Luo’er worriedly reminded her.

Hearing his words, the girl lowered her head, falling into a long silence. Not until Luo’er and the others had retreated ten meters backward did she mumble a barely audible, "Thank you..."

"Damn! How did she pull that off, oh my god!" Hu Daoke, looking at the tuft of hair in his hand, couldn’t help but exclaim.

"Serves you right for being a smartass. Just be thankful she didn’t aim for your groin, or you’d learn firsthand what it means to be instantly emasculated." Cheng Ziang joined in derisively.

"Luo’er," Tangmo walked up to Luo’er, glanced at the girl in the distance and then said seriously, "Her attack was probably a magic attack, because I felt magical fluctuations when she took a swing at Little Ke."

"Magic, you mean..." Tangmo’s words hit Luo’er like a bolt from the blue.

"Hmm," Tangmo nodded and then continued, "It should be some kind of magic that materializes the attacking power through magic!"

"Uh, I don’t quite get it..." Luo’er scratched his head and answered honestly.

"It seems like she just waved her sword and the sword’s aura cut off Little Ke’s hair, but that’s not what really happened. From my perspective, that sword, like a magic wand, is a medium for casting magic." After a pause, Tangmo said with knitted brows, "But what’s strange is that there were almost no magical fluctuations when she cast magic, only minor fluctuations appeared when the sword’s aura swept through the air. I suspect her sword is embedded with a magic crystal, otherwise, she absolutely wouldn’t be able to cast magic without absorbing atmospheric magic."

"So you’re saying, her magic is entirely powered by the magic crystal?" Luo’er asked.

"That’s just my guess, but when she was casting magic, there were indeed very few magical fluctuations, which indicates she wasn’t absorbing magic from the air. Magic, like both water and gas, when a chunk is suddenly removed from the air the surrounding magic would rapidly fill the vacuum, causing intense magical disturbances. If we release magic into the atmosphere, the degree of disturbance is less intense than when magic is removed." Tangmo explained earnestly.

"So, she’s just been releasing magic into the air without absorbing it?" Luo’er couldn’t help but look back at the girl in the distance again as he spoke.

"For now, that’s the only conclusion I can draw," Tangmo sighed, then continued, "I’m just curious, what benefit does such magic crystal-powered magic provide her?"

Tangmo’s curiosity was natural because in the Otherworld, casting magic by absorbing magic was the most commonly used method by mages. Even though it caused strong magical disturbances, once the fight started, who would care about these disturbances. The magic method of not absorbing but just releasing magic also existed, usually powered by the magic crystal and used in covert operations like infiltration and such.

This is similar to silencers on Earth. On a conventional battlefield, no soldier would be foolish enough to equip a silencer. Silencers are generally used in special operations to minimize noise to the highest degree possible, a concept similar to the otherworld method of not absorbing magic.

Therefore, Tangmo’s question was valid – it was as if this girl had equipped a silencer on an automatic rifle at the battlefield; basically, her approach was as effective as trying to cover up a crime by listening to loud music.

She sighed, lifted her head, and found Luo’er looking at her with a smile. She felt a little shy and asked blushing, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Luo’er laughed before sighing, "I thought you would be jealous because of her, but it seems like you’ve grown up."

"Why would you think I would be jealous of you both?" Tangmo pouted, furrowing her brows and glaring at Luo’er. She then lowered her head again and started giggling gleefully.

"Luo’er, about our matter..." Just as she was preparing to look up and say something else, Hu Daoke interrupted from the side.

"Oh, looks like that girl’s about to be surrounded by the Corpse Demons. Is it going to be okay?" Hu Daoke pointed into the distance and exclaimed.

Hearing his words, the Advance Team members all turned back to look. They were now more than a hundred meters away from the girl. She was about to be surrounded by the Corpse Demons. Even if they went over now, they wouldn’t be able to ensure her safety. All they could do was leave it to fate, and hope the girl was lucky enough.

"I always feel that this girl will bring us more surprises." Cheng Ziang commented with a smile that was not quite a smile.

"Everyone, be ready for combat. If something goes wrong, we’ll rush over to provide assistance!" Luo’er instructed. While speaking, he inspected the weapon in his hand and moved closer to Cheng Ziang.

With a disgruntled look on her face, Tangmo walked over to Hu Daoke, stomped on his leg out of frustration. Hu Daoke clasped his leg in pain and asked with wide eyes, "Sister Moumou, why did you kick me?"

"I’m angry!" Tangmo replied sulkily.

"That’s so unfair!" Hu Daoke exclaimed with a sense of grievance.

Ignoring the interaction between the two, Luo’er and Cheng Ziang focused solely on the girl’s battle in the distance. Luo’er was about to turn around and say something to Baiyue, only to find that she had already found a low wall and was ready with her rifle, in a position to attack.

Seeing her readiness, Luo’er gave a nod of approval and turned back to watch the girl’s fight.

Surrounded by a horde of Corpse Demons much larger than herself, the girl showed no signs of panic, her expression never wavering. After surveying her surroundings, she said nothing more. Instead, she sank slightly, preparing to draw her sword from its scabbard.

The advantage of Corpse Demons is in their numbers, while their disadvantage is in their slow movements. Therefore, when confronted with Corpse Demons, the girl’s actions appeared calm and unhurried, a stark contrast to the tense feeling of dealing with Exotic Beasts.

She positioned her right foot forward, left foot behind, and leaned slightly. She placed her sword horizontally at her pelvis with her left hand and with her right hand on the hilt, she was completely prepared for battle.

"That’s the stance of Iaido, I didn’t expect her to know it..." Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but remark.

Before drawing her sword, the girl lowered her head and glanced at the slightly drawn blade. With a clear mind, she fiercely drew her sword as if she was the center of a circle, forming a curved line in the air.

The next second, all Corpse Demons surrounding her exploded, cut in half. Just like something had horizontally slashed through them all, their bodies and limbs were flying everywhere. The Corpse Demons that were surrounding the girl were now like chopped grass, falling to the ground, none of them left intact.

Obviously, just like all her previous moves, the girl’s weapon never physically touched her enemies. She solely relied on her magic-infused sword to damage the enemies, this curved slash was no exception.

Clearly, this was a 360-degree attack mode with no blind spots. No wonder the girl found the Advance Team members to be in the way. If they had continued to stay on the spot, they might have been affected by her sword’s power, ending up like the Corpse Demons.

After completing all this, the girl resumed her posture and slowly sheathed her sword. Suddenly, her face paled, and she fell to her knees, coughing uncontrollably.

"Damn!" Seeing the girl kneeling on the ground and coughing, Luo’er’s heart sank. He knew that these symptoms indicated she had inhaled the virus, and currently, there was almost no cure for this virus.
