Chapter 622 - 615: The Mysterious Girl
Chapter 622: Chapter 615: The Mysterious Girl
After the girl had cleaned the sticky blood off her body, she put her hood back on and picked up the long sword leaning against the well.
While she was cleaning, Cheng Ziang, who was a fan of cold weapons, noticed her long sword. It was a very plain and common steel long sword. In the otherworld, such a sword was very ordinary, usually made of steel. Even ordinary people would choose to carry one as a self-defense weapon.
But ever since Earthlings made contact with the Otherworldly Beings, hot weapons have gradually become the main weapons of the Otherworldly Beings, thus, long swords have become more of symbolic weapons representing one’s status.
Of course, this only applies to ordinary people. For the nobles, the long sword is not only a symbol of their status but also their primary weapon in combat. Until now, Earth’s military armor still cannot defend against the attacks of rune weapons, which remains one of the few prides of the Otherworldly Beings.
As the girl picked up the sword, she seemed to notice Cheng Ziang’s gaze, turned her head, and gave him a cold glance. There was no expression on her face, and her eyes were icy cold with no emotional fluctuations, which made Cheng Ziang wonder if she was a robot, devoid of a soul.
"Let’s go. I will take you to meet the master!" Leading with the sword, the girl walked in front, signaling the Advance Team to follow her.
"Are you, a local?" Luoer, walking behind her, tried to extract some useful information from her.
"Yes..." The girl paused before she reluctantly answered, "I only grew up here!"
"No wonder you don’t look like a local," Luoer nodded and commented.
"My appearance doesn’t fit in here. The master said that when I meet a man with a ghost, I can find the way back home." Without looking back, the girl spoke indifferently.
"Ghost....what are you talking about?" Luoer stared at her back, a suspicious look on his face.
"There’s no need to hide it, I can feel the presence of that girl, right?" As she spoke, the girl suddenly turned around to look at the air next to Luoer. The direction she was looking was exactly where Fulajie’er was.
"How do you know about Fulajie’er’s existence?" Luoer took a step back and asked with a furrowed brow.
"I’m not sure how to explain it to you, but I just know. Every word she speaks to you, I can hear," The girl responded indifferently.
"Hear?" Luoer’s eyebrows furrowed deeper as he tried to decipher her words.
If what she said was true, that she could sense Fulajie’er’s presence and even hear her conversing with Luoer, then it meant that her Soul Domain was in resonance with Fulajie’er’s Soul Domain. But how exactly did she manage that?
Could it be that Fulajie’er’s Soul Domain had expanded? That couldn’t be right, if Fulajie’er’s Soul Domain had expanded, she would have informed him immediately. Since it wasn’t because of Fulajie’er, could it be this girl?
Luoer remembered that when they had just disembarked, Fulajie’er was extremely worried, reporting that she sensed an unfamiliar soul nearby. The area where the Advance Team had landed was an open field, with the nearest cover being the edge of a forest more than fifty meters away.
If Fulajie’er’s Soul Domain was not expanded yet she could sense a foreign soul, there was only one explanation: someone’s Soul Domain exceeded a radius of fifty meters and had resonated with Fulajie’er’s soul. Otherwise, he was at a loss as to why Fulajie’er would issue such a warning.
"Were you observing us when we disembarked?" Luoer asked the girl hesitantly, suspicion in his eyes.
"The airplane? Are you talking about that flying iron box? Yes, I was observing you when you disembarked," The girl responded lightly, scratching her nose.
"So it was you after all..." Luoer nodded in realization. Fulajie’er’s feeling was right, she never lied to him. She did sense this girl’s existence.
Actually, for Luoer, no matter what Fulajie’er said, he would choose to believe her. There was this saying, "Trust people you use, use people you trust," and he simply couldn’t imagine why Fulajie’er would deceive him.
"Where are you hiding?" Luoer asked again.
"In the forest," the girl paused, then continued, "But it seems I was still discovered by that ghost girl. She really is extraordinary."
Talking about this, she couldn’t help but turn her head to look at the surrounding air. Fulajie’er exclaimed in surprise because her every movement was detected by the girl. Even without manifesting, it seemed like the girl could sense her presence.
The girl’s move further confirmed Luoer’s conjectures - the issue really revolved around the girl. This mysterious girl carried an exceptionally potent soul domain that could easily locate Fulajie’er.
Luoer’s invention of ghost communication essentially used Fulajie’er as a messenger, transmitting commands, and information between members of the advance team. As everyone had a limited domain, Fulajie’er often required proximity to resonate and converse with the target.
Yet, this girl could resonate with Fulajie’er’s soul domain and achieve communication from fifty meters away, surpassing the advanced team’s aptitude by more than one level.
Luoer felt conflicting emotions regarding the sudden appearance of this girl. He wanted to believe her, but he was also concerned about her motives. They had witnessed her capabilities; dissension within ten meters was deterrent, Luoer pessimistically estimated. He was still struck by the girl’s unscientific series of slashes.
The two silently walked for a few minutes and quickly returned to the village center. Suddenly, the girl unexpectedly stopped, standing motionless and seemingly lost in thought.
"What’s wrong?" Luoer asked nervously.
The girl raised her right hand, made a slight gesture, then spoke without looking back, "Trouble is coming. You go ahead. I will deal with them and meet you afterwards."
"What trouble?" Luoer asked, his eyes widening.
"Luoer, a large number of Corpse Demons have appeared in the southeast direction of the village. I estimate there are more than fifty." Fulajie’er’s anxious voice reported in his ear.
"Everyone, prepare for battle!" Luoer commanded while immediately checking the weapons in his hand.
"I told you all to retreat, not to fight." The girl coldly responded.
"Are you crazy? Those are Corpse Demons!" said Luoer anxiously.
"I know, that’s why I said it’s trouble, not a big trouble." The girl responded without looking back.
"Wait," Luoer was stunned, looking at the girl’s receding figure. He said, "Those things can infect you, surely you know the consequences of being infected?"
"I’m not afraid of falling ill, so you don’t need to worry about me," the girl said. After a brief silence, she continued, "And, with you all around, it will only hinder me and make it inconvenient to do what I need to."
"Isn’t that too arrogant? At least we have five guns, how did we become a hindrance?" Hu Daoke cradled his gun, speaking somewhat discontentedly.
Hearing Hu Daoke’s words, the girl did not retort. Instead, she fell into a brief silence. Suddenly, she drew her long sword and swung it up fiercely, but didn’t seem to hit anything.
What happened next shocked the advance team members again. A lock of Hu Daoke’s hair had inexplicably fallen from his head. Startled, he reached out to catch the strands, and found that the ends had been cut very neatly - evidently sliced off.
"Alright, you win!" Seeing this, Hu Daoke dared not speak further. He stuck out his tongue and moved dejectedly to the back of the group.
Luoer couldn’t explain the girl’s technique scientifically. Clearly, she had swung forward, but Hu Daoke, standing behind her, was affected. What was the connection between the two, and what replaced her sword stroke?
