Chapter 537: Chapter 530: The Advent of the "God
"Let me ask you all, are you willing to continue your research work, no matter who you do it for?" Luo’er asked the researchers after setting down his rifle.
"Well, if it’s just for research, of course... May I ask who you are..." The researchers struggled for a while before one of them timidly asked.
"I’m just asking if you’re willing or not. We have research topics from all over the world and even from Otherworld," Luo’er said indifferently.
"Well, naturally, research topics from Otherworld?" Upon hearing they could research Earth technology, the researchers immediately became excited. Their originally wavering stance had been completely thrown away.
"Very well, you can leave with those people in a while," Luo’er said in satisfaction after nodding.
It wasn’t long before Fulajie’er floated back to inform Luo’er that the mercenaries were about to arrive. Luo’er nodded, then said to Nightingale, "Let’s go, we need to hurry to the Body Construction Room."
"Are you...Fulajie’er?" Seeing Luo’er talking to himself, Gude couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity.
Hearing his words, Fulajie’er floated to his side, resonated with his soul, and asked, "Who are you, and why do you know my name?"
"I, I’m a friend of your father." Hearing Fulajie’er’s voice, Gude quickly turned his head and said excitedly.
"Hmm...I seem to remember you a little bit," Fulajie’er said in a puzzled manner.
Gude spun around in place a few times, but he still couldn’t find Fulajie’er. He couldn’t help but exclaim, "It’s amazing, my Magic Power Sensing can’t detect you at all."
"Take me to the Body Construction Room, I want to see your Rune Engraving Board," Nightingale said, ignoring his conversation with the Ghost and stepping forward.
"Of course, let’s go, daughter of... Derexia," Gude stuttered.
"Just call me Nightingale," Nightingale responded coldly.
"Alright, Nightingale!" Gude nodded.
Soon, the mercenary team returned. Luo’er had one of them take the researchers away from the base. He brought with him two mercenaries, as a precaution.
There was unrest outside the building. The incessant sounds of guns and explosions filled the air. They had to move quickly in order to not let the outside squad falter under Theron’s attack.
Halfway through, Luo’er’s group suddenly heard the same exclamation from outside the building. The loud sound almost drowned out the sounds of guns and explosions. At the same time, the magic power in the air began to fluctuate violently.
"We need to move faster, "God" is about to appear!" Nightingale said, quickening her pace.
The violent fluctuations of magic power in the air indicated that the God’s body was gradually breaking free from the Magic Crystal’s supply, and starting to absorb magic power from the air. Once the God’s body was fully developed and could rely solely on the atmospherical magic power, they would no longer be able to restrain it.
The Body Construction Room was on the other side of the Soul Ascension Room. They still had to walk through a long corridor. Not long after they started walking, Luo’er and the others were attacked by Theron. A carefully selected Theron Squad was guarding the entrance. Their equipment was on par with Luo’er and the others, but they had the advantage in numbers. After a fight, Luo’er and his group were heavily suppressed.
Once into a siege, the Ghost’s function was quite limited. Apart from providing some positioning information, Fulajie’er couldn’t do much else. She tried to disrupt Theron, but they were not affected at all, and were intent on guarding the entrance.
Luo’er knew that with the current situation, the people he had wouldn’t be able to complete the siege. At least two full squads would be needed to handle it. So after some consideration, Luo’er issued an order for a temporary retreat.
After throwing two smoke grenades, the group slowly retreated following the route they came from.
The sudden attack by the Advance Team caused chaos within the whole base. They had already taken control of two entrances and the place where test subjects were stored. As Luo’er and his group just reached the entrance, Tangmo rushed over with her squad.
"What happened, is it finished?" Tangmo asked, his eyes wide in surprise.
"No, can’t get through it, we need to retreat for now." Luo’er gestured with his hand.
"Luo’er, look up there!" Tangmo suddenly had a thought and pointed fearfully at the night sky.
Only then did Luo’er notice that the night sky was too bright, like a full moon. Looking in the direction Tangmo was pointing, Luo’er saw a sight that left him speechless. In the distant sky, a massive humanoid figure made of white light was floating. It was a sight that reminded Luo’er of Fulajie’er’s body that night.
"Damn, he’s about to succeed!" Seeing this, Nightingale grit her teeth and cursed out in anger.
Suddenly, the body opened its eyes and seemed to struggle. Along with its movements, almost everyone felt the overwhelming surge of magic power. It screamed towards the sky, but no one could hear it. They only felt their own magic power rapidly draining. If it weren’t for the healing of the Elf Race, Luo’er would have exploded from an overflow of magic power.
"Damn it, he’s completed the fusion!" Nightingale’s face was grim. She coughed once and muttered through clenched teeth.
"What do we do now?" Luo’er asked, his eyes wide with a sense of helplessness.
"There is still a chance. Its body needs the magic crystal of the device for energizing. As long as we can do something there, we can dismantle it." Nightingale said, her face dark with determination.
"Sure enough, Kuya wants to turn himself into a god!" Gude stared at the distant body, speaking in a daze.
"You bunch of bookworms, are you so engrossed in your research that you always find out his intentions too late?" Nightingale glared at him, her tone harsh.
"No, don’t, ah!!!!"
Suddenly, Fulajie’er screamed in Luo’er’s ear. Luo’er hurriedly asked, "What’s wrong, Fula?"
"Nana, Nana was devoured by it, everyone is running!" Fulajie’er said almost in tears.
"Damn it, that thing can devour ghosts, Fula, tell everyone that the ghost system will be going offline shortly. All ghosts should return to their bodies and stand by!" Luo’er ordered through gritted teeth.
"I understand!" Fulajie’er replied, her voice still choked with sobs.
"Let’s go to the test subject storage area and save the girls first!" Luo’er then commanded loudly.
"Roger that!" Tangmo nodded, and they rushed towards the test subject storage area.
After releasing its outburst, the body seemed to be reborn, laughing wildly: "Haha, haha, I’ve finally succeeded, I’ve finally become a god. Now, whether it’s the north or the south, whether it’s the magical world or Otherworld, everyone will bow to my feet!"
Ordinarily, his voice could only be heard through soul resonance but strangely, almost everyone present heard it. There was only one possible explanation: its soul domain had completely enveloped a vast area, creating a resonance with everyone’s soul, allowing them to hear its hysterical laughter.
"Son of a bitch, will that thing attack?" Hu Daoke, who was guarding the door to the test subject storage area, muttered to himself as he watched the so-called "god" in the distance.
"Stop cursing!" Tangmo, who had just arrived, retorted angrily. But just as his words fell, they heard explosions and screams coming from afar.
The god finally made its move, waving his hand and sending a burst of level three fireball magic crashing towards the closest Theron. The massive flames ignited instantly, engulfing several people.
"Confirmed hostility, everyone prepare to retreat!" Luo’er frowned and ordered the mercenaries to help. He himself ran off a little over a hundred meters on his own, then fired the retreat signal into the sky.
