Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 538 - 531: Physical Death

Chapter 538: Chapter 531: Physical Death

As the signal flare shot up into the night sky, the members of the advance team who heard the news began to retreat according to the prearranged plan. The battle had evolved into a war between that so-called god and everyone else, so it’s best not to get involved and leave Theron to fight it.

The god was very vigilant. Upon noticing Luo’er launching the signal flare, it immediately blasted the spot where Luo’er had just stopped. If he hadn’t dodged in time, he would likely have been killed instantly by excessive magic power.

However, it didn’t seem to deploy many magic spells, as Luo’er noticed. Every time it invoked magic, its form became more transparent. This meant it still relied on the Magic Crystal energy supply from the generator in its body. Although the atmosphere was rich in magic power, it could only absorb a portion, unable to intake it all. This resulted in a decrease in magic power concentration composing its body each time it invoked magic.

However, it evidently noticed this as well and suddenly blasted the roof of a warehouse. Following that, a scene that shocked everyone unfolded. It began to wildly draw in the Magic Crystal mine scraps, now hollow shells, to attach to its body. Soon, a colossal figure covered in crystals emerged before everyone’s eyes. It even formed wings with the excess Magic Crystals, unfolding them from its back.

"It’s becoming physical!" Luo’er exclaimed, eyes wide in shock.

"These are scraps of Magic Crystal. Though they’re scraps, they still have high affinity with magic, and can easily be attracted and attached by magic power." Tangmo explained solemnly.

Soon, Luo’er and the others saw the real purpose of its physical transformation. It ignored Theron’s attacks, crazily swinging its fists at him on the ground like vermin. In an instant, it smashed them into mush.

Due to previous assassinations and the arsenal explosion, there weren’t enough armed forces in the base to suppress this terrifying giant. As a result, Theron was having considerable difficulty facing it. Even with the Theron on the perimeter joining the battle, they still didn’t have a solution.

This giant didn’t fear firearms at all. Although bullets could easily shatter the Magic Crystals attached to it, its surface was covered in a thick layer of Magic Crystals, completely unfazed by bullets.

One of the Therons from somewhere managed to get a hold of an RPG rocket launcher and fired at the giant. The RPG, as an armor-piercing weapon, instantly pierced through the giant’s fist, revealing a glowing white interior. But soon, the giant gathered Magic Crystals again to coat its fist. It dealt a fierce punch to the Theron who had fired the RPG. The sharp crystals instantly perforated his body. Not only was he smashed into pulp, but his body was also pierced with countless holes.

"Physical attacks still work against it." Noticing this, Luo’er finally saw a glimmer of hope and said joyfully.

"Never mind that for now. While Theron’s trading fire with it, we must hurry and rescue Fulajie’er and the others." Tangmo said.

"Right, we need to rescue them first!" Reminded by this, Luo’er immediately came to his senses and joined her in entering the location where the test subjects were held.

It was a vast space. Dozens of bathtub-like devices were neatly arranged inside, filled with a light blue liquid. Upon close inspection, one could see that the liquid was faintly glowing.

Upon seeing these, the first thing Tangmo thought of was the device inside the Elf Pyramid that revived Luo’er. Both were filled with an unknown liquid and used for biostorage.

Inside the devices, one could vaguely see the figures lying at the bottom. Both of them came closer to find that their heads were covered with round headgear, linked to the devices with tubes.

"The equipment of the Otherworld people is surprisingly high tech." Seeing this, Luo’er couldn’t help but remark.

"This is probably the product of Ancestor technology. The scientific progress of the people in this world is all thanks to the inheritance of the Ancestors," Tangmo replied indifferently.

Inside the room, a few researchers were scurrying around busily. They lifted the girls’ bodies from the bottom of the devices, removed their headgear, and unfastened a strange collar around their necks. As soon as the collars were removed, the girls began to wake up slowly, gradually opening their eyes.

At this point, they were all as bare as newborns. The researchers hurriedly took off their lab coats and put them on the girls.

All the devices weren’t occupied. Nightingale ran around anxiously, loudly calling for Fulajie’er. She was gradually guided to the device that contained Fulajie’er’s body.

Nightingale didn’t want anyone else to touch her sister’s body, so she personally plucked Fulajie’er’s body out of the liquid. After forcefully pulling off the headgear from her head, she was about to unfasten the collar around her neck.

"Wait!" Luo’er suddenly stopped her and quickly walked over.

"What happened?" Nightingale, holding Fulajie’er’s body, asked with a look of worry.

Luo’er didn’t answer her question. Instead, he reached his hand towards the shoulder of Fulajie’er. Before Nightingale could react, Luo’er said solemnly, "It’s corpse spots, Fulajie’er... she..."

As he said this, he moved his hand to Fulajie’er’s chin, and then looked helplessly at Nightingale, shaking his head sorrowfully.

"No, it’s not possible!" Nightingale shoved his hand away, cradling Fulajie’er’s head against her chest, trying to detect a heartbeat. But reality was just as Luo’er had said, Fulajie’er’s body was devoid of a heartbeat.

The physical body does limit the spiritual entity, but when the body is damaged, the spirit can’t fully reside in it, evoking a repelling reaction. Perhaps due to the passing of ages, Fulajie’er’s spirit had slowly faded until it completely vanished today, resulting in the slow demise of her body. If Luo’er and the others had arrived a few days later, they might never have seen Fulajie’er again.

"No, no, Fulajie’er won’t die. She can’t." Nightingale’s mind was consumed by dread. She hugged Fulajie’er, her voice trembling with each word.

"Sister, I think I can’t go back..." Fulajie’er’s voice, filled with regret, reached her ears, causing Nightingale’s spirit to shatter completely.

However, Luo’er remained composed. He didn’t let himself feel upset because he could still sense Fulajie’er’s presence, meaning her soul had not completely dissipated.

This was an odd occurrence since, according to previous theories, the existence of a soul was due to the physical body’s constraint. Yet, though Fulajie’er’s body had perished, her soul had not vanished. Could it be that her soul was not bound by her physical body?

"Oh, you found Fulajie’er, I am exhausted." As Nightingale was too choked up to speak, Gude ran over puffing and panting.

"It was all your fault, you bastard!" Nightingale suddenly lashed out, drawing a pistol and pointing it at Gude. Luo’er promptly restrained her, disarming her of the Magic Crystal pistol.

"Don’t lose control, Sister Nightingale." Luo’er tried to placate her.

"Whose side are you on, Luo’er? This man... this man killed Fulajie’er. Are you still going to protect him?" Nightingale shrieked, pointing furiously at Gude.

"Calm down, calm down, the situation might not be as bad as you think!" Luo’er tried to console her.

"Sister, I haven’t vanished yet. There may still be hope." Meanwhile, Fulajie’er whispered in Nightingale’s ear.

"Wait, wait," Gude hurriedly waved his hands, "Don’t get me wrong, I am here to help."

"What else do you want?" Nightingale glared at him.

"Listen to me," Gude coughed, then explained, "Fulajie’er hasn’t vanished yet, right?"

"How do you know that?" Luo’er looked sceptically at Gude.

"Because of this." Gude said, taking out a slim case from his pocket. The case wasn’t large, about the size of a mobile, and barely a centimetre thick.

"What is this?" Luo’er asked, slightly stunned. Had they not been in the Otherworld, he might have thought that Gude had pulled out a mobile phone.

"This is a container. A soul container to store another kind of soul." After sliding open the case’s lid, Gude revealed three objects that were similar to a magic crystal, engraved with intricate
