Chapter 536: Chapter 529: Gude’s Hard Work
"What is that..." Luo’er raised his head to look at the scene in front of him, a surprised exclamation involuntarily escaping his lips.
Next, he raised his rifle to aim at the cylinder and was about to shoot. However, he was stopped by a researcher nearby.
This was a man with a Mediterranean hairstyle who appeared to be in his sixties or seventies. He wore a monocle and had a large, bulbous nose. His teeth were black and yellow, looking as if he hadn’t brushed them for several years.
When he saw that Luo’er was about to attack, he rushed over without hesitation, grabbing Luo’er’s gun to prevent him from firing, and said excitedly, "Please don’t harm this thing, it is the result of our painstaking efforts and crystallization."
Luo’er pushed him down effortlessly and then pointed his gun directly at him. Seeing this situation, the other researchers at the operating table hurried over to plead for him, "Please don’t hurt Professor Gude, he doesn’t mean any harm."
Nightingale also jumped down from her observation post at this time. She quickly walked to Luo’er’s side, looked up at the cylinder, turned her head to the researchers and ordered, "Immediately stop the device and let him out!"
"It’s too late, too late." The professor called Gude knelt on the ground, shaking his head.
"I don’t care if it’s late or not, open the lid, I want to see Kuya!" Nightingale said viciously.
Upon hearing her words, Gude stared at her for a long time, suddenly widened his eyes and pointed at Nightingale with trembling hands, "You, you, you are that... that... Derexia’s daughter..."
"I am seeking revenge for my father. Open the lid!" Nightingale said coldly, while drawing her magic crystal pistol, aiming at the researchers.
"Wait a second, it’s too late now." Gude gestured with his hand helplessly.
"What do you mean by it’s too late?" Luo’er asked, pointing his gun at him.
"Kuya, Lord Kuya has already ascended." Gude answered.
"What does ascension mean?" Luo’er asked.
"Lord Kuya’s soul has escaped the constraints of the body under the compulsion of magic power, and is now merging with the ’body’. Even if you open the lid, you’ll only find a corpse." Gude explained laboriously.
"Impossible, without the constraints of the body, his soul will definitely dissipate!" Nightingale retorted loudly.
"No, we have completed a strong constraint on the soul, so that the soul won’t dissipate even if it loses the constraints of the body. Powerful magic will surround the soul, allowing it to safely merge with the "body"!" Gude explained.
"How is that possible, you guys have already accomplished..." Hearing his words, Nightingale’s face changed instantly.
"Open the lid and let’s clarify it!" Luo’er said, keeping his gun aimed at them.
The researchers looked at each other, and finally one of them ran over to open the lid. As the lid opened, the gorgeous patterns on the machine instantly lost their brilliance, and the crystal tube also became dim.
Under the lid, Kuya’s body lay quietly, or rather, lifelessly. Nightingale held a gun in one hand and slowly reached out with the other, touching his chin. The expression on her face became one of unwillingness.
"Dead?" Luo’er asked her.
"Stone dead!" Nightingale answered coldly.
"What do we do next?" Luo’er asked.
"To the Body Construction Room!" Nightingale said.
"Understood. Fula, notify the team to come in and take these people out!" Luo’er ordered Fula.
"I understand now!" Fula nodded and swiftly floated out of the broken observer window.
"Are you talking to a ghost?" An observer named Gude questioned with widened eyes, observing Luo’er talk to himself.
Heard that, Luo’er looked puzzled for a second before he abruptly grabbed Gude’s collar and demanded, "Tell me, how can those girls who turned into ghosts return to their bodies?"
"Can you sense the presence of ghosts?" Gude opened his eyes wide and countered Luo’er’s question with his own.
"Answer my question, don’t sidestep it by asking another!" Luo’er said angrily, and with a strong shove, Gude fell onto the ground. Luo’er then lifted his rifle and aimed at Gude.
"No, please don’t harm Professor Gude. I know how to help them return to their bodies," a young researcher stepped forward, pleading for Gude.
"If you knew how to help them return to their bodies all along, why didn’t you revive them at the beginning instead of letting them aimlessly drift as ghosts?" Luo’er coldly questioned.
"This..." The researchers exchanged looks but found themselves speechless.
"Sir, please remain calm and hear me out. This was Professor Gude’s doing. Because if we didn’t do it this way, those girls would be killed," the young researcher explained.
"Why is that?" Luo’er asked, maintaining his gaze on him.
"The Creating God Plan was a tightly kept secret. Theron strictly prohibited any leaking information to the outside world. The girls were merely test subjects for a soul-binding experiment. If they were to return to their bodies after the experiment, they would be silenced by Theron. He would not allow them to stay or let them go," the researcher explained, looking at Gude before continuing, "Professor Gude cared for those poor children, and under the guise of ’further research’, he held their bodies captive, preventing their souls from returning, to keep them constantly in an experimental state. Theron was oblivious to this phase of the research, hence wouldn’t harm the girls as they were supposedly still ’under experiment’."
"Is that the truth?" Luo’er asked softer, squinting his eyes.
"Absolutely so, Professor Gude feels immense guilt for those girls, having also taken part in the soul-binding experiments," the young researcher insisted.
As such, things started to make sense. Once the girls awaken after their experiments, chances of them being silenced by Theron were exceedingly high. Even if they weren’t silenced, they could never leave the Creating God base for fear of information leakage. The researchers had kept the girls perpetually in a state of testing under the pretext of constant monitoring, preventing Theron from treating them recklessly. After all, none of them understood the intricacies of the Creating God Plan and they risked losing their lives should anything go wrong.
However, a considerable number of test subjects and their bodies had died over time. Additionally, with those who were executed unlawfully by Theron’s bunch, there were only around twenty or thirty of them left.
"I ask you all, why did you let Kuya undergo Soul Ascension?" Nightingale stepped forward, demanding angrily.
"That... Lord Kuya said he wanted to proceed with the final examination, so..." The researchers looked at one another uneasily, answering stutteringly.
"Bullshit, can none of you see that Kuya wants to become a ’god’?" Nightingale exclaimed angrily.
"How...how could that be, the experiment for fusing the soul with the body hasn’t been carried out yet?" The researchers asked with wide eyes.
"Take me to the Body Construction Room. I want to see your runes!" Nightingale immediately commanded.
"Th...this is..." The researchers revealed their difficulties.
"Any objection?" Nightingale asked, aiming her magic crystal gun at them.
"Please calm down, I’ll come with you; just let them be," Gude stood up from the ground and put on his monocle before raising his hands and pleading.
Nightingale watched him, her expression fluctuating. In response, Gude quickly explained, "I am a friend of your father’s, and I wouldn’t harm you."
Listening to his words, Nightingale’s eyes softened somewhat, recalling what he had done for Fulajie’er. She sighed and said, "Fine, you can come with us."
