Chapter 515: Chapter 508: Fulajie’er
"So, you think someone is using magic to talk to us?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking at him.
"I’m not sure," Luo’er shook his head and said with a frown, "The Magic Research Center of the academy doesn’t have any records of such magic, so I can’t say for sure if it is magic."
"I hope it’s magic!" Cheng Ziang turned his head and glanced at the pale-faced Luoya, shaking his head sincerely.
"What I’m thinking now is, if it’s magic, who is the other party? Are they a friend or foe, and why are they helping us?" Luo’er said, sinking into deep thought.
"Perhaps they’re trying to gain our trust and then use us," Cheng Ziang said, frowning.
"If you say that, I’ll be very angry!" The voice suddenly appeared beside them again at that moment. Like a bolt from the blue, everyone was taken aback. Luoya was even frightened to tears.
The four of them retreated in all directions centred on the voice. Cheng Ziang shielded Luoya behind him and she clung tightly to his back, trembling all over.
"Who are you and why are you helping us?" Luo’er steadied his mind and bravely asked.
"Lower your voice," the voice complained, then paused and continued, "I just didn’t want to see you guys getting killed by those people. They are very scary. They have killed a lot of people and buried them in the forest to the north."
"Why can’t you come out and talk to us directly? Why do you have to use magic to communicate with us?" Luo’er asked, furrowing his brow and taking a deep breath.
"I’m not using magic, I’m right in front of you. Can’t you see me?" The last two sentences sent a chill down their spines. Hu Daoke’s whole body was shaking, and his fingers were taut. If he hadn’t turned off the safety at the right time, he probably would have fired by now.
Upon hearing her words, Luo’er’s face turned pale. He stared wide-eyed at the air in front of him. Under the faint starlight, he finally saw something similar to mist, floating back and forth in front of them.
It was less like mist and more like a thick liquid. Luo’er had seen this state before. It was when Tangmo and Baiyue were using their magic at Lipei’s. The magic they conjured took this form, like a flowing, viscous liquid.
Staring at the gathered magic in front of him, Luo’er felt like his head was going to explode. After a long pause, he finally asked the complete question, "What exactly are you?"
"You guys are amazing, you’re not afraid of us at all!" The voice said excitedly, then paused before speaking in a slightly depressed tone, "The other people who have encountered us either run away or are scared to death. We’re really sorry about that, we just wanted to talk to them, but we end up killing them. It makes us afraid to interact with people, so we can only hide in this forest."
"It seems the rumors are true, the Weird Talk Forest really has ghosts!" Cheng Ziang said to Luo’er with a troubled look on his face.
"We’re not ghosts, there’s no such thing as ghosts in this world!" The voice countered, but it sounded somewhat confusing.
What is this? A ghost denying the existence of ghosts?
Probably because she felt they wouldn’t be scared of her, the voice started to talk more. It seemed like she hadn’t talked to outsiders for a long time.
"What’s your name?" Luo’er asked, steadying himself.
"Me? I’m Fulajie’er. Can you see me? I’m right in front of you, but I don’t seem to be wearing any clothes..." The voice said cheerfully in front of Luo’er.
"I can feel the disturbance of the magic in the air," Luo’er said coldly.
"Oh, that’s amazing," Fulajie’er said in surprise. Many people can’t feel our existence, not even mages. They can only hear our voices.
Her voice was sometimes far, sometimes near, as if rolling and spinning in front of Luo’er. Luo’er could even feel that there was a figure less than a meter tall jumping with joy in front of him.
"What are...you exactly?" Luo’er asked heavily, staring at Fulajie’er in front of him.
"Us?" Fulajie’er seemed to somersault in mid-air before continuing, "We’re not dead, just asleep. Whenever we sleep, we leave our bodies and wander this area."
"Hang on, you said you can leave your bodies, so where are they now?" Luo’er grew more and more unnerved as he listened. If they could leave their bodies and wander, weren’t they essentially ghosts?
"Our bodies? Where are they..." Fulajie’er started, then, realizing that they couldn’t see her, she continued, "Our bodies are in a stone house over there on the mountainside."
She went on in a caring tone, "Please don’t go there, though. They would kill you. They’ve already killed so many. We tried to warn people not to come near here, but we only ended up scaring them to death."
With a trace of grievance in her voice, Fulajie’er continued. They couldn’t help but feel warmed and their fear of this invisible ghost started decreasing.
Her words stirred thoughts within Luo’er. The Enigmatic Talk Forest only appeared after the Creating God base did. In other words, the Creating God base was producing these invisible ghosts like Fulajie’er. He grew more curious about the Creating God Project. What kind of scheme was this that could turn people into wandering ghosts?
"You’re very brave, not the least bit afraid of us. I thought I might have scared you to death, so I didn’t dare to talk to you!" Seemingly deprived of human contact for so long, Fulajie’er spoke a lot and repeatedly.
"Fulajie’er, will you harm us?" Luo’er asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Of course not. Why would I hurt you? I haven’t spoken to anyone in so long. Don’t be afraid, they don’t dare to come here."
No sooner had she finished speaking than they heard a desperate scream in the distance, followed by a flurry of commotion. As the commotion drifted farther away, the noise gradually dimmed.
"They were scared away by their companions. You’re safe now!" Fulajie’er’s voice echoed from behind Luo’er.
"Should we hide here and rest for the night?" Luo’er sought everyone’s opinions.
"I don’t want to..." Luoya whimpered, weakly voicing her opinion.
"You two look so much alike. Are you siblings?" Fulajie’er’s voice suddenly sounded from behind Luoya. The sudden interjection frightened Luoya into jumping into Cheng Ziang’s arms.
"Can you see us?" Luo’er couldn’t help but ask.
"Of course I can. Even though it’s a bit dark, I can see every one of you clearly," Fulajie’er proudly claimed.
"Ziang?" Luo’er hesitated a moment, before seeking Cheng Ziang’s opinion with his gaze.
"Yep, I think it’s fine. She wouldn’t harm us," Cheng Ziang nodded in agreement.
"What are you saying? Why can’t I understand?" Fulajie’er’s voice came from behind Luo’er suddenly, giving him a startle.
Because they were communicating with Cheng Ziang, they were speaking in Chinese, not Tasta, which was why Fulajie’er couldn’t understand.
"You popping up out of nowhere like that could scare someone to death!" Luo’er, clutching his racing heart, said with lingering fear.
"I’m sorry." Surprisingly, Fulajie’er apologized with a hint of regret in her tone. This time, she didn’t move around aimlessly, but spoke right in front of Luo’er.
"Fulajie’er, we’d like to rest here tonight. Can you protect us?" Luo’er asked after catching his breath.
"Um, of course, I’d like to chat with you some more," She paused, then continued, "But I might not be able to protect you for long. When my body awakens, I’ll have to go back."
