Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 516 - 509

Chapter 516: 509

Luo’er cast a seeking gaze at Cheng Ziang. Before he could nod, Luoya, who was next to him, swung her hand in desperation, shaking her head aggressively at him.

"Can we really rely on her to protect us? After all, this is our first meeting." Cheng Ziang understood Luoya’s thoughts and directed his question at Luo’er.

"Of course, you can!" Fulajie’er floated in front of Cheng Ziang and declared with absolute confidence, "Although we can’t harm them, we fly faster and can give you an early warning. Moreover, they are very afraid of us and won’t come here carelessly."

As she spoke before Cheng Ziang, he couldn’t see her no matter what. Luo’er could sense the disturbances in magic power, but he couldn’t sense any disturbances at all.

This was strange as Magic Power Sensing was an essential skill for the Advance Team and not exclusive to Luo’er. Although he was a mixed-blood from the Elf Race and was more talented in magic than others, he had gotten injured several times because of the hardships of the past year, greatly reducing his magical aptitude.

"Anyway, we can’t leave tonight. We might as well let her protect us and rest here for the night," suggested Luo’er.

"I don’t mind!" Hu Daoke was less frightful after becoming aware of Fulajie’er’s existence. Having grown up on Earth, his acceptance surpassed those from the Otherworld.

"Wow, you’re a half-beastman, you’re huge!" Fulajie’er’s voice suddenly came from behind him, startling him and almost making him drop his gun.

Once the decision was made, Luo’er began setting up sleeping bags on the spot, paying no mind to Luoya. Luoya clung tightly to Cheng Ziang’s arm, shivering slightly against him. Being a girl, she was naturally more sensitive to such matters than boys.

"Luo’er, this..." Cheng Ziang gestured towards Luoya, hesitating to speak. Even though there was no expression on his face, his heart was overjoyed.

"Just accompany her for tonight," Luo’er glanced at both of them, speaking helplessly, then added, "Don’t try anything!"

"You can trust me on this!" Cheng Ziang confidently pledged.

Luo’er took one more look at both of them and sighed helplessly. He faced the empty air, attempting to spot traces of Fulajie’er. However, despite his efforts, he gave up and softly called her name.

"Huh, did you call me?" Fulajie’er’s excited voice came immediately. She seemed to have been longing for his call.

"Fulajie’er, can we talk?" Luo’er sat cross-legged on the spot, asking quietly.

"Absolutely! I haven’t spoken with anyone for quite a while!" Fulajie’er replied playfully. She spoke the southern-accented Tasta language and liked to use tone particles, perhaps to accentuate her cute voice.

Fulajie’er’s voice was youthful, seemingly not even having reached puberty. However, from her conversations, her linguistic capabilities did not seem immature. She carried the maturity of a teenage girl.

"Fulajie’er, are you...human?" Luo’er couldn’t help but ask.

"Of course, we are humans. Why would you ask such a question?" Fulajie’er seemed patient and not offended, explaining, "We live on the other side of the mountain, but we can move about once our bodies are asleep, and those people don’t dare stop us."

Her words left Luo’er bewildered, unsure of how to understand them. If Fulajie’er was human, in what form was she appearing before them? And when she mentioned running around after their bodies went to sleep, was she referring to their souls?

"In what form... do you appear now?" Luo’er asked, furrowing his brows after some contemplation.

"Oh, do you mean how I look now?" Fulajie’er spun around in place despite promising Luo’er she wouldn’t jump around, so her voice faded in and out, "Um, I don’t know how to describe it...like a ghost perhaps? But we are definitely not dead!"

Luo’er’s question left her conflicted and she grumbled to herself. Hu Daoke, who couldn’t help joining the conversation, said to Luo’er, "Boss, I feel it might be what we call soul projection?"

"What does ’soul projection’ mean?" Fulajie’er was puzzled by this Earth term.

"Ahh! Don’t come over, you’ll scare me to death!" Hearing her voice right in front of him, Hu Daoke startled and swiftly moved towards Luo’er.

"You’re so big, yet you’re such a scaredy-cat!" Fulajie’er taunted.

"Even if the soul leaves the body, the person isn’t dead, but the soul is free to move about." Luo’er explained calmly, ignoring the conversation between the two.

"Oh, it must be called astral projection then. Ah, I finally understand our current condition, I have to tell everyone later!" Fulajie’er exclaimed excitedly.

"How did you end up in this state?" Luo’er swiftly threw his next question.

"Umm, I don’t seem to remember," Fulajie’er pondered worriedly, then spoke with visible frustration, "I’ve slept for too long, I even forgot how I fell asleep."

"Is it connected to the people at the base?" Luo’er asked eagerly.

"The base..." Fulajie’er hesitated before a sudden realization hit her, "You’re talking about that place? It seems like it’s true. The people there transformed many others into this state that I am in now."

"How did they do it?" Luo’er inquired.

"I don’t know, there are many places there that I can’t enter." Fulajie’er mumbled.

"Why can’t you enter?" Luo’er continued to question.

"Mmm," Fulajie’er thought for a moment, then replied, "My companions told me, it seems that the magic power there is too weak, so we can’t go there."

"Magic power!" Luo’er exclaimed with wide eyes, seemingly having found the key point, "That’s right, magic power, no wonder you all gathered here."

"Boss, what are you talking about?" Hu Daoke asked, looking at Luo’er.

"The forest in this area has a rich concentration of magic power, don’t you feel it?" Luo’er asked after looking around.

"Ah, boss, I’m not good with magic..." Hu Daoke admitted awkwardly.

"So that means, in order to maintain a state of astral projection, one needs to stay in a place with a high concentration of magic power." Luo’er, ignoring him, voiced his thoughts.

"What do you mean?" Fulajie’er curiously questioned.

"After your souls left your body, you can only stay in a place with a highly concentrated magic power. Just like how fish can only stay in water, if they go ashore, they would quickly die." Luo’er explained.

"Oh, amazing, you’re really amazing. With your explanation, I completely understand now!" Fulajie’er praised, she probably wanted to clap in agreement but it seemed like Luo’er and the others couldn’t hear her.

"Fulajie’er, if we come to rescue you, can you tell us some information about the base?" Luo’er asked.

"No way!" Unexpectedly, Fulajie’er flatly denied his request.

"Why?" Luo’er asked, slightly disheartened.

"They’re very powerful, you all will be killed by them, so don’t come to save us, don’t come... we are fine now, we don’t need saving. As soon as day breaks, you all should hurry and leave. Even though I want to befriend you all, I don’t wish for you to return. This place is too dangerous, it’s not a place you should visit. Even though we could scare them away, they have magical weapons from Otherworld, they could kill you all even if you don’t approach them." Fulajie’er said earnestly.

"Uh..." Luo’er and Hu Daoke looked at each other, they thought Fulajie’er was unwilling to help them, they didn’t expect she was worrying for their safety. Despite Fulajie’er’s current form, she was still willing to help them, this made them feel endeared towards her.
