Chapter 514 - 507

Chapter 514: 507

It was now late at night, the sky was shrouded in dark clouds, blocking any view of the stars and the moon. The cool gusts of wind chilled Luo’er, rousing him to a state of acute wakefulness, sleep was no longer an option.

He tried to ignore his surroundings, but couldn’t help but prick up his ears to listen carefully for the sinister voice he just heard.

"Sigh..." At that moment, he heard a sigh and was instantly covered in cold sweats. He tumbled out of his sleeping bag and rolled in a panic under a tree.

"Are you okay?" Luo’er’s sudden movements woke everyone. Cheng Ziang poked his head out of his sleeping bag to ask.

"I’m okay..." Luo’er’s eyes widened, as he said it, still feeling lingering fear. But he was visibly pale, his hands and feet shaking uncontrollably, not to mention the cold sweat drenching his back.

The reason for his fear was that the sigh had sounded right by his ear, as if someone was whispering into it.

Luo’er was a staunch materialist and didn’t believe in such supernatural occurrences. But what had just happened truly scared him.

"I think I heard something..." At this moment, Luoya, who was sleeping in her sleeping bag, relayed her fear with a trembling voice.

"Could there really be ghosts?" Hu Daoke’s eyes widened, despite his rough and tough demeanour, he was quite afraid of such things.

"Everyone, calm down, this might be Theron’s doing!" Despite his pounding heart, Luo’er decided to steady everyone.’

The reason why Luo’er said this was because when he heard the sigh, he had distinctively felt a disturbance in the magical energy in the air. This indicated that someone nearby might be using magic.

Although the people of Earth had not mastered illusion-type magic, it could not be ruled out. Most of Earth’s people operated in the northern region, so they didn’t know much about the south.

Luo’er thought, as long as he determined that there were no ghosts in this world, then what had just happened could be explained by scientific logic.

Due to the disturbance caused by the Luo siblings, everyone was awake and alert. Although the light was dim, once accustomed to the darkness, they could still discern movements. The remaining three climbed out of their sleeping bags, gathered together, hold on to their weapons firmly, and vigilantly stared at their surroundings.

"Eh?" At this moment, Luo’er distinctly felt another disturbance in the magical energy in the air. Following this, came a young girl’s ethereal voice from near them. It was as if someone was standing next to them, making them all hair stand on end.

"Who’s there, stop playing tricks, show yourself!" Hu Daoke couldn’t stand it any longer. He aimed his machine gun where the sound came from and shouted loudly. If it hadn’t been for Cheng Ziang who calmed him down in time, he would have fired his gun already.

At this moment, the night wind blew again, whooshing past them. Looking towards the direction of the sound, they saw nothing. But everyone heard the sound, which was very close to them, making them too scared to speak. Luoya, who didn’t have a weapon, trembled behind Luo’er, clutching his clothes tightly.

Luo’er would have loved to explain this scientifically, possibly suggesting someone nearby was casting illusions. But the subsequent shocks left him feeling a little dazed, and, for a moment, at a loss about what to do.

"Are you guys afraid of us too?" At this moment, a childish voice, much like that of a little girl, inexplicably echoed in the air.

In an instant, everyone was jumpy, all aiming their guns where the voice came from. If not for their high combat experience, knowing that gunfire would attract the enemy, they would have already started firing.

"Who’s there, come out! stop playing tricks, I know you’re using magic!" Luo’er shouted into the open air.

"Don’t make too much noise, those people will come and kill you." At this point, almost everyone felt something fluttering past them, but despite their wide-open eyes, they could not see anything. The voice was so close, as if speaking right in their ears.

It was only then that Luo’er realized why there were no Theron soldiers stationed in this area, why they would abandon such a vantage point, and not even set up a hidden lookout. Sure enough, it turned out this place was the Weird Talk Forest, infamous among the locals.

At first, when he heard about it in the tavern, Luo’er didn’t take the rumors seriously and didn’t believe in the ghosts of the Weird Talk Forest. He thought it was merely an illusion induced by people’s fear. But now that they’ve encountered it, Luo’er finally understood their terror. This was not an illusion, ghosts indeed haunted the Weird Talk Forest.

For the current situation, Luo’er also felt it was eerie. He had clearly sensed a fluctuation in magic, but it didn’t seem like it was an illusion magic. Because if it was an illusion, the voice wouldn’t have been able to answer so logically.

"Everyone, don’t panic, let’s first determine if they mean us any harm!" At this point, Luo’er had already acknowledged the existence of the ghost. Once he accepted it, he felt much more calm.

They were deep within enemy territory now. No matter if this unknown entity had any malicious intent towards them, the most important thing was to maintain calm. If they were to alert the Theron soldiers, their fate would not be much better than being scared to death.

However, after the voice appeared, there was a long silence. No further sound was heard, and they had no idea what the ghost planned to do. The three men formed a circle, protecting Luoya in the center, their guns aimed all around with high alertness.

Just when everyone thought it had all been a dream, Luo’er once again felt a disturbance in the air’s magic. Then, the same voice came again. It was still the little girl’s voice, only more desperate. "You must hurry to the forest below the mountain, they’ve come, they’ll kill you!"

"Who are you, why are you helping us?" Luo’er looked around, shouting his question.

"Don’t speak too loudly, they’ll hear you!" The voice said with frantic urgency, and they even heard a hushing sound.

"Regardless, Luo’er, let’s get out of here. If we encounter Theron here, we won’t stand a chance!" Cheng Ziang calmly said, patting Luo’er’s shoulder before climbing up a tree to untie the sleeping bags secured on it.

With his reminder, Luo’er also became somewhat calmer and helped him pack. In less than five minutes, they had packed everything and then walked briskly downhill towards the forest in a defensive formation.

"Go quickly, don’t make any more noise, my companions will help you hold them back." As the four of them descended, they could still hear the girl’s voice.

The dark clouds had finally begun to disperse, and the brilliant starlight overhead improved the visibility on the ground. The four of them fumbled and stumbled their way into the forest.

Once inside the forest, they arrived at a relatively open clearing and stopped to catch their breath. They hadn’t yet recovered from the fright, Luoya’s face was still as pale as death.

"Oh my, there really are ghosts!" Hu Daoke shivered at the mere mention of what just happened, feeling goosebumps all over his body.

"Did any of you feel the magic disturbance? Every time that voice appears, the surrounding magic starts to fluctuate." Luo’er took a moment to steady his mind, before asking them.

"No, nothing at all!" Cheng Ziang shook his head before turning to look at Hu Daoke.

"I didn’t feel anything either, what, boss, you felt it?" Hu Daoke looked at him wide-eyed.

"Right, that’s why I asked earlier if someone was using magic." Luo’er said with a serious expression on his face.
