Chapter 453: Chapter 446: Tana’s Summoning

Leaning into Nina’s embrace, Luo’er seemed to rally for a moment, suddenly extending his hand and wiping away the tears from his eyes before focusing his gaze on Nina, who was now sobbing as she held him. At this moment, he found an unexplainable strength; his wounds didn’t hurt, and his consciousness began to clear up.

"Mom!" Luo’er called out to his mother who was within arm’s reach. This long-lost call made Nina burst into tears once again.

"Luo’er, Mom is here!" Nina lowered her head, as she wiped away her tears and spoke.

"Mom, it hurts so much!" In front of Nina, Luo’er, like any ordinary human being, revealed his vulnerability for the first time. This might have totally been the last time as his voice abruptly cut off after he spoke. He stared at Nina with wide open eyes, his mouth slightly ajar, his pupils began to slightly dilate and his hand went limp.

This almost meant that Luo’er had already reached the end of his tether. Seeing Luo’er’s dark green pupils gradually losing their luster, Baiyue’s eyes widened as tears streamed down her face. She seemed to have been frozen, her medical bag fell to the ground, scattering various medicines.

"It’s fine, it’s fine, it will be better, it will get better." Whether it was due to Nina having lost her sanity or not, she didn’t seem too despondent facing up to her son who was on the brink of death. Instead, she was disturbingly calm.

She placed her hand on Luo’er’s face, closing his eyelids, then she herself closed her eyes, softly chanting something under her breath. Baiyue, standing at the side, could clearly feel the magic flowing in the air.

After chanting the spell, Nina opened her eyes and slowly pulled out the arrow that had killed Luo’er.

It was an arrow she had fashioned herself, made from a metal unique to Ilanadale. This was the special Breaking Armor arrow of the Elf Race. In the Otherworld battlefield of those years. she had used such arrows to pierce through Luo Chuan’s bulletproof vest. Never could she ever have imagined that the same tragedy would repeat itself after thirty years.

Back then, her arrow had only slightly injured Luo Chuan, but this arrow had taken Luo’er’s life.

Now, Luo’er laid motionless, his arm dangling weakly at his side. Although the arrow was removed, there were no longer fresh traces of blood flowing from his wound. Regardless of how one looked at it, Luo’er seemed to be dead.

Baiyue watched him in a daze, her hands trembling as she reached out to touch his neck. His body temperature was decreasing, his skin was already cold to touch, although she could still feel a faint pulse, it was getting weaker and weaker.

Seeing Luo’er with his eyes closed, it was as if he had merely fallen asleep. Baiyue’s body convulsed violently, and she collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness.

"Yue’er!" Seeing Baiyue fall, Cheng Ziang immediately rushed over. After a brief check, he relaxed and gently placed her down.

Tangmo remained seated in place, her back to Luo’er, her eyes wide open, her body shaking uncontrollably. She didn’t dare to turn around, even when Cheng Ziang called out to her, she didn’t turn around. Because she couldn’t bear to hear Luo’er’s death, she chose to deceive herself, convincing herself that Luo’er had merely fainted.

Cheng Ziang gave a light sigh, glancing at Luo’er. He too, couldn’t believe Luo’er was dead. If not for his calmness, he would perhaps already be holding Luo’er and weeping.

Discarding all diverse thoughts, and looking carefully, he noticed that even though Luo’er seemed to have passed away, Nina wasn’t too emotional. She leaned Luo’er’s head onto her chest and chin, and whispered comforting words to him.

Nina wasn’t crazy or mentally unstable, this was the first inference Cheng Ziang made. Because there were no signs of hysteria in her expression or her gaze. She held Luo’er affectionately, whispering comforts, as if he had just fallen asleep. All of these signs lead Cheng Ziang to fervently believe that Luo’er wasn’t actually dead.

He squatted in front of Nina and Luo’er with a serious expression, and called out, "Aunt Nina."

"What is the matter?" Nina didn’t raise her head. While she continued to hold Luo’er, she spoke softly.

"Did Luo’er, die?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Couldn’t you see for yourself?" Nina responded in a low voice.

"Please give me a definitive answer; otherwise, I can only kill the person responsible for this!" Cheng Ziang pointed at Luoya as he spoke. Catching on to his actions, Hu Daoke raised his gun, aiming at Luoya.

"Aunt Nina, she should be your daughter and Luo’er’s younger sister. But I hope you can understand that," Cheng Ziang paused and then continued coldly, "Luo’er was a member of our Advance Team. Now that he has been killed by your daughter, this is not only just a family issue. Luoya killed our team member, and this is now a public matter. If you cannot give an affirmative response, then we can only proceed with the law."

As he spoke, he raised his hand while Hu Daoke understood and disengaged the safety lock on the light machine gun.

"Mother..." Luo Ya, feeling the imminent threat of death, couldn’t help but call out to Nina.

Nina indeed harbored hatred toward Luo Ya, for her defiance, for stealing the household’s bows and arrows to partake in Theron’s and Judgement Legion’s war, and most of all, for killing her own brother, Nina’s son, Luo’er. However, Luo Ya, from the beginning to the end, had always been her daughter, a part of the memories she shared with Luo Chuan. She had already lost Luo’er. She didn’t want to lose Luo Ya as well.

"Luo’er isn’t dead!" Nina gently announced.

Upon hearing her words, Tangmo’s body jolted violently. He quickly turned around, widening his eye to look at Nina, and Luo’er in her arms.

"Would you care to explain?" Cheng Ziang, gazing at an unmistakably dead Luo’er, asked with a furrowed brow.

In their time in the Otherworld, they had seen many deaths. Therefore, even with only a passing look, they could tell whether a person is merely unconscious, or indeed deceased.

After some time, Nina, holding Luo’er tightly, finally began to speak: "Luo’er is of mixed elf blood. The Elf Race has a life-saving ability. When they receive a fatal hit, this ability comes into play, making them appear dead, thereby avoiding subsequent attacks while awaiting the rescue of their comrades. Unless their vital organs are damaged, no matter how severe their injuries, they will not die while in this state. We refer to this ability as Tana’s Calling."

Tana is the deity worshipped by the Wood Elves. According to Wood Elf folklore, Tana calls the souls of Wood Elves into the Divine Wood. Once the elf’s body has recovered, the soul will respond to their comrades’ calls and return to their body.

"But how do you know Luo’er has such an ability?" Cheng Ziang continued to ask.

"The eyes," replied Nina, "whether a half-elf inherits Tana’s Calling can be told from their eye color. If the iris color of a half-elf is unique to wood elves, that signifies Tana’s acceptance, and they can be summoned into the Divine Wood."

Upon hearing her words, Cheng Ziang subconsciously turned his head to look at Luo Ya. According to Nina’s theory, didn’t that mean Luo Ya only inherited half of Tana’s Calling?

Cheng Ziang guessed that Tana’s Calling was a type of feigned death ability, somewhat similar to the breath-holding technique in martial arts novels. They could avoid harm through this method and wake up again later.

"But how will Luo’er awake?" Cheng Zian continued to ask.

"We have to go to the Divine Wood Town of Ilanadale and find the Wood Elf elders to wake him," said Nina.

"You can’t wake him?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Even if I could, I am not able to heal Luo’er’s injuries. If we call his soul back like this, he will still die," Nina replied.

"So, to save Luo’er, it’s necessary to go to Ilanadale," concluded Cheng Ziang, finally relieved. He gestured for Hu Daoke to lower his gun.

Cheng Ziang heaved a sigh of relief. He figured as long as Luo’er was not dead, the problem was much easier to address. Even though Ilanadale was xenophobic, it’s still worth atry. It was better than if Luo’er was already dead.

With this settled, Cheng Ziang gave out orders: "Moumou, you and Aunt Nina take Luo’er. Old Hu, go and carry Baiyue back!"

"Alright, I understand," Tangmo sniffed and walked up to Nina, timidly suggesting, "Auntie, let’s take Luo’er home!"

"Mm!" Nina simply nodded. The two of them then worked together to carry Luo’er, who was almost as tall as Nina. If Cheng Ziang’s memory served him right, Luo Chuan was a bit shorter than Nina.

After arranging things, Cheng Ziang approached Luo Ya and asked: "Your name is Luo Ya, right? I’m Cheng Ziang, your brother’s teammate!"

Luo Ya stared at him, her eyes cold. Evidently, she did not trust this man standing before her.

"Listen well. Luo’er, although he is your brother, is also our teammate. If he isn’t dead, the problem is easy to solve, but if he dies, it won’t matter if you are Luo’er’s sister. I’m giving you two options. Either you go with us willingly, as Luo’er’s sister. Or I tie you up and take you with us now, as a captive. It’s your choice," Cheng Ziang fixated on her without backing down, speaking coldly.

Luo Ya glared at Cheng Zi Ang, saying nothing. After some thought, she finally lowered her prideful head and begrudgingly followed behind Nina.
