Chapter 420 - 413: Comprehensive Training
Chapter 420: Chapter 413: Comprehensive Training
Two days later, they arrived at the manor that had been converted into a training base. The mountains near the manor had been purchased as the training grounds. Before they even approached, they could hear the lively burst of gunfire from afar.
Upon arriving at the manor, everyone got off the horse carriage. The officer who was overseeing the operation of the training base was a man who had once worked for Melia. He had a profound impression of the members of the Advance Team, especially Hu Daoke. Seeing everyone arrival, he warmly welcomed them.
Although Luo’er didn’t visit often, he was already quite familiar with the place. After brief pleasantries, they moved into their original rooms. Even though the place was transformed into a training base, their rooms were kept by the headquarters for the Advance Team to rest and recuperate.
Luo’er remembered their last break was in August, three months ago. They had rapidly moved north from Yazhi City to engage in a major battle at Lipei, and then immediately returned to their base to accept the mission of pursuing Fu’en. They hadn’t had a moment of rest.
After being relieved of his duties, Luo’er suddenly felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his shoulders and at last, he was afforded a chance to catch his breath.
Since Luo’er was seriously injured by magic cast by another Momo, he had had no chance to rest. Although he appeared robust, his body was, in reality, on the brink of collapse. As such, the first thing Cheng Ziang did when he took over as Captain was to prohibit Luo’er from participating in the training. He was ordered to focus on recuperating.
Normally, Luo’er would not have complied, however, since he had been relieved of his position, he reluctantly accepted Cheng Ziang’s orders seeing that he couldn’t regain his position as Captain until after the break.
Even though he was exempted from training, Luo’er couldn’t sit still. He voluntarily tended to the daily needs of the team members as a servant.
The next day, the members of the Advance Team plunged into training. Despite his reluctance to be a team leader, Cheng Ziang was very decisive and his directive abilities were just as good as Luo’er’s. At his behest, everyone, including himself, underwent training in various areas including rifles and pistols.
Previously at the academy, Luo’er had assigned responsibilities based on different strengths and personal preferences, emphasizing specialized training.
This type of allocation was useful in competitions because it allowed each member to showcase their advantages, but in the Otherworld Adventures, it proved less effective. Their many battles had shown them that each member had to master the advanced operation of weapons, rather than focusing on specialized training.
For example, Tangmo was not proficient with firearms and was prone to accidentally injuring her own party members. As a result, Luo’er had her focus on becoming a Mage and kept her away from firearms. In hindsight, this decision seems incorrect. After all, the Advance Team only has five people, and they had encountered countless weird and dangerous situations, not all of which could be solved with magic. If Tangmo couldn’t use a gun, and she found herself in a situation where she couldn’t use magic, then she was essentially useless. It would be as if the Advance Team had lost a member.
To remedy this, it was necessary for her to learn how to use a gun. In this way, she could still contribute to the battle even if she couldn’t use magic.
After several days of training, Tangmo finally overcame her inability to use guns. She mastered the most basic weapon operation techniques and shooting skills. Hu Daoke, who was acting as the support, was also not idle. He was learning the essentials of precision shooting from Baiyue.
In many of their battles, they often encountered problems due to a lack of long-range support. Baiyue was not only a sniper, but also an excellent Mage and hand-to-hand combat expert. However, regretfully, Baiyue was the only long-range firepower on the Advance Team, so she often could not show her other skills and was tasked to provide long-range firepower support for the team.
To solve this problem, they needed others to also master the basics of precision shooting. This approach would make up for the lack of long-range support firepower when Baiyue had to utilize her other skills.
The current training policy of the Advance Team was to let those who can’t use guns master the most basic weapon operation and shooting, and allow those who can use guns to master advanced precision shooting. This way, the overall strength of the Advance Team would improve.
"Ready, begin!"
With the click of Cheng Ziang’s timer, a focused Tangmo raised her Type 95 rifle and began to aim at the target. Her action was very standard-looking: legs splayed, waist bent, body slightly leaning forward.
When she ran out of bullets, she hurriedly grabbed a new magazine from her pocket, ejected the old one, replaced it with the new one, finally pulling the bolt to reset the empty gun.
"Hurry up, you’re too slow!" Cheng Ziang urged from the side.
Another round of quick shots followed, once the clip was empty, Tangmo, without any hesitation, hung the rifle under her right rib, drew a pistol with her left hand and fired after resetting it with her right hand.
This was a method often used by Luo’er. When he shot with a rifle he was right-handed, but he used his left hand to shoot when he drew a pistol. This method allows seamless transition between rifle and pistol.
Although this method didn’t significantly speed things up too much, Luo’er was accustomed to it and continued to use it. As his faithful fan-girl, Tangmo naturally also learned this method.
"Good, good, keep firing!"
"Hurry, the target is going to disappear!"
Cheng Ziang urged on, partially to accelerate her firing speed and also to disrupt her firing rhythm, training her to maintain shooting accuracy under such distractions.
"You’re so annoying..." After checking the gun back, Tangmo turned her head and looked at him, complaining bitterly.
"This is called training." Cheng Ziang shrugged nonchalantly.
On the other side, Hu Daoke who was also training was complaining bitterly, wailing, "Yue’er, aren’t we supposed to be doing shooting training? Why do I have to do math problems? I’m terrified of math."
"This is the result of shooting parameters. If you can’t calculate them, how can you shoot?" Baiyue glared at him, speaking bluntly.
"Well, if I see someone in the scope, I just pull the trigger and it’s over. What’s there to calculate?" Hu Daoke stated helplessly.
"That’s a brute’s way of shooting. It might work within a hundred meters, but beyond that, it’s all up to luck," Baiyue explained.
"Ahhhh," Hu Daoke wailed pitifully, suggesting, "Anyway, we’ll be partners in the future, so why don’t you just tell me how to do it."
Baiyue glanced at him and said, "The moment you need to make a precise shot signifies that I have other tasks at hand. How can I possibly fight alongside you?"
"Makes sense." Hu Daoke agreed and resignedly propped himself against the table.
"Stop leaning and hurry up to solve this problem!" Baiyue tugged at his clothes, urging him.
At dinner, Luo’er had prepared a sumptuous meal for them. Since he didn’t need to participate in the training, he simply took over the caretaking duties from the servants, even preparing the dinner specifically for everyone.
"Don’t give that guy too much to eat. He’s made no progress in so many days." At the dinner table, Cheng Ziang pointed at Hu Daoke and told Luo’er.
"In your dreams! Why won’t you try learning how to snipe then? Easy for you to say. When I’m fighting tooth and nail with my gun, you can only clutch to your knife trembling in a corner!" Hu Daoke fearlessly retorted, despite Cheng Ziang being the acting Captain.
"Stop arguing, everyone gets a share." Luo’er tried to mediate.
"Originally, you were supposed to rest, but here you are, playing the servant," Cheng Ziang commented helplessly.
"Well, I’ve nothing else to do, and these minor tasks are not tiring," Luo’er responded with a smile.
Cheng Ziang stared at him and had a sudden idea, suggesting, "Speaking of servants, why don’t you switch into a maid outfit and become our exclusive maid?"
"Hey, that’s a great idea!" Hu Daoke happily gave a thumbs-up, clearly not concerned about making a fuss.
"Why do you always want to put me in a dress?" Luo’er frowned.
"Well, for morale, you know? There aren’t many young maids on base, just mostly older women. We’re surrounded by a bunch of old men; it’s utterly boring. It’s just for a bit of excitement," Cheng Ziang reasoned with a teasing grin.
"No way, I might end up a target of sexual harassment!" Luo’er refused, waving his hands.
"You’re just taking care of us here; who else is going to see?" argued Cheng Ziang.
"It’s not about...," Luo’er looked at him and asked unwillingly, "Is this some sort of fetish for you? I respect your tastes, but I am not into guys!"
"I don’t have that kind of fetish," Cheng Ziang shrugged, "I just want to see something pleasant. You’re actually quite good-looking for a guy. Maybe you should just dress up and satisfy our cravings. It’s a common hobby among men!"
"Who in the world has that kind of hobby?" Luo’er asked skeptically, and then turned his head to look at Hu Daoke.
"Well boss, I’m with him. We’ve gotten used to seeing Sister Moumou and Yue’er, pretty as they are. Why not give us a surprise?" Hu Daoke eagerly suggested.
"You ungrateful wretch..." Luo’er shot him a disgusted look.
"There has to be someone who disagrees!" Saying so, he turned his gaze to Yalunte.
"Ah, no comment from me. You young people can play as you wish; I’ll just watch from the sidelines," Yalunte waved his hands.
"Luo’er, Luo’er, we want to see too! Change for us!" Tangmo was inexplicably excited at the idea of Luo’er becoming cross-dressed like him.
"You guys..." Luo’er let out a sigh and, helplessly, said, "Fine, fine, I give up. I’ll change, but only for you guys to see, agreed?"
When it didn’t concern his personal interests, Luo’er was always prone to compromise with his teammates. And that’s why people said he was easy-going. But the minute it came to his personal interests, Luo’er wouldn’t back down even an inch.
