Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 390 - 383: Deployment Completed
Chapter 390: Chapter 383: Deployment Completed
Seeing Luo’er walking out of the building safe and sound, Yalunte finally breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that Luo’er’s plan had been very successful. Although his expression was solemn, it did not show signs of failure, which implied that he had likely discovered the whereabouts of Fu’en.
"It’s done. Let’s go!" Luo’er said without looking back as he walked up to Yalunte.
"Alright!" Yalunte nodded, glanced around, and began to back away slowly.
He gripped a longsword in his right hand and rested his left hand on the grip of his pistol at his waist. If a conflict erupted, he would quickly empty his pistol at the surrounding enemies first before engaging them with his sword.
As they emerged from the depths of the alley, the two of them finally relaxed. The area was securely under the control of the Advance Team, which had set up remote sniping positions all around. Members of the Advance Team, disguised in cloaks, nonchalantly roamed about, rifles loaded and hidden beneath their cloaks.
Once out of the alley, Luo’er signaled for everyone to retreat. Upon seeing his gesture, the Advance Team members lurking nearby began to withdraw from the area, providing cover for each other.
The group retreated according to a prearranged route and gathered in a room, waiting for Luo’er to arrive.
"Is it done?" Cheng Ziang, clad in a police uniform and leaning against the wall, asked as Luo’er entered.
"It’s done. We can’t delay. We must go capture Fu’en now, before anything else happens tonight." Luo’er announced as he walked into the meeting point.
"Where will we take him after his capture?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Hmm," Luo’er pondered, then said, "Take him to the academy. Neither the secular armies nor the Hound Gang possess the resources to confront the Church Court. Their protection would be the best."
Seeing Luo’er enter, Tangmo, who was holding a magic wand, stepped forward and asked with concern, "Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine!" Luo’er replied somewhat puzzled.
"Boss, all our gear is ready. We can set off at any time!" Hu Daoke neatly arranged several rifles on the table. Out of personal preference, he had also brought along his light machine gun. Although submachine guns were more advantageous in urban combat, sustained firepower was also necessary. So, Luo’er did not object.
"Excellent, now I will assign everyone their tasks." Luo’er nodded in acknowledgement.
Baiyue walked up to the table and considerately spread out the map. It was a map of the Eastern District of Holy Heart City, provided by Shariya. Baiyue added more detail to it after conducting reconnaissance.
Luo’er walked over to the table, pointed at a location, and said, "Fu’en is hiding here, but we don’t have enough time to confirm it."
With that, he sighed lightly and then looked around at everyone, "The Hound Gang has given us five hours. After five hours, they will inform Fu’en and he will change his location. So, we have to capture him within five hours and bring him back to the academy."
"And what do we do after bringing him back to the academy?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Hmm," Luo’er pondered before saying, "I’m thinking about asking the Church Court to escort him to the headquarters. After all, they did promise to help us capture Fu’en, but they didn’t do anything. I figure, asking them to help us escort him shouldn’t be a problem."
Luo’er was thinking that although they were the ones who captured Fu’en, they didn’t care about the credit. They would just treat it as if the Church Court had helped them capture him. Therefore, asking them to escort Fu’en back to headquarters shouldn’t meet resistance.
If they were still to refuse, then that would essentially mean that the talks between the headquarters and the Church Court had broken down and that there was no basis for cooperation.
The Church Court was a rather bloated institution. The senior leaders aspired to engage with headquarters but found it hard to pass orders down and implement them at the grassroots level. This resulted in an awkward situation where top-level Court officials attempted to court favor with headquarters but those at the ground level disregarded the Advance Team.
If it were not for Shariya’s unwavering assistance, Luo’er would have complained to the headquarters long ago. They were toiling away in Holy Heart City, taking care of everything themselves. Members of the Court didn’t help, and they didn’t even care about their welfare.
Dulens already had a high status within the Church Court, but even he openly contravened orders. It showed how weak the Court’s control was over its subsidiaries.
"They say they’re helping us capture Fu’en, but they didn’t even lift a finger. We’re at their mercy. It’s so frustrating!" Hu Daoke complained bitterly.
"Forget it, completing our mission is more important. We don’t need to worry about the internal affairs of the Church Court." Luo’er consoled, gesturing dismissively with his hand.
Next, Luo’er looked around at all of the Advance Team members in the room, mentally assigning each one of them a task.
"Our mission is to capture Fu’en. We don’t know much about the target, nor the situation where the target is hiding. All we have is this map. Yue’er has conducted a general on-site reconnaissance of these areas, for which she did an excellent job." As he spoke, he publicly praised Baiyue.
Receiving Luo’er’s approval, Baiyue didn’t say anything. Her usually calm face showed a hint of shyness and happiness.
"We don’t know much about our target, and we don’t have much time, meaning we cannot conduct any further reconnaissance. The terrain here is complex, with buildings strewn haphazardly about. If we attempted to capture Fu’en at night, we would likely get lost and wouldn’t have the support of the sniper team. So, I’ve decided we should disguise ourselves and enter just before dusk." Luo’er spoke with a furrowed brow.
In Otherworld, there were no night-vision devices, so Earth’s most effective tactic of night fighting was useless here. Once evening arrived, they were basically in the dark.
"So after thinking it over, I’ve decided to divide us all into three teams..." After pausing for a moment, Luo’er continued, "First up is the Sniper Team, Murong, Yue’er, you’re assigned to the Sniper Team. Little Ke, you are going to be the observer for the Sniper Team!"
"Ah, boss, let me go with you!" Hu Daoke said with a troubled expression.
"The Sniper Team’s task is also crucial. Don’t forget our battle in the Sub-beastmen village." Luo’er said.
"Alright then..." Hu Daoke puckered his lips and reluctantly nodded in agreement.
"You carry the light machine gun and, when necessary, you’ll form a Fire Support Team to provide us with firepower support!" Luo’er continued after pausing for a moment.
"Alright, leave it to me!" The moment he heard he could use a light machine gun, a broad smile flashed across Hu Daoke’s previously drooping face.
"You, this guy..." Cheng Ziang couldn’t stand it and gave him a kick.
"Also, Ziang, Uncle and Zhuanzhu, the three of you will form the Stealth Team. Stay vigilant around the operational area and assassinate all hostile targets!" Luo’er commanded.
"About time!" Zhuanzhu said with a huff, clearly satisfied with Luo’er’s arrangement.
"Aren’t you taking me with you?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"No need, we’re just capturing someone. We don’t need that many people." Luo’er shook his head and replied.
With that, he looked at the three of them and added, "Take note, the moment the retreat signal is sent up, regardless of how the battle is going, apart from the Sniper Support Team, everyone will immediately withdraw from the battle. The Sniper Support Team, providing covering fire for the others to retreat once everyone has withdrawn!"
"Understood!" Everyone nodded in unison.
"What will I be doing then?" Tangmo eagerly asked.
"Err..." Luo’er gently pushed her away to establish some distance between them before saying, "The remaining ones will form the Assault Team, which will be in charge of capturing Fu’en. Also, Ziang, go arrange for a carriage first. As soon as we capture the target, we’ll put them in the carriage and take them back to the academy immediately."
"Got it!" Cheng Ziang nodded.
"Everyone, listen up," Luo’er said after taking a look around, "before the assault is initiated, everyone must maintain their disguise. Ideally, the whole operation should be over within ten minutes. Do you understand?"
"Understood!" they all said together.
"Listen, everyone, for this mission, we don’t know the target’s specific information, we have no idea of the on-site situation, and we don’t have backup. We can only count on ourselves. I need everyone to stay sharp, I do not want to see anyone get hurt, do you understand?" Luo’er asked.
"Understood!" They all replied in unison.
"Good, check your weapons and ammunition, and get ready to move out." Luo’er ordered.
"Understood!"
"Moumou," Luo’er called Tangmo after the meeting, "For this operation, we’ll need the Silence Rune and the Explosion Rune."
"I’ve already prepared them!" Tangmo said, looking at him.
"Impressive!" Luo’er nodded, smiling.
"I have grown up after all!" Earning Luo’er’s praise, Tangmo instantly beamed with a huge smile.
"The location we’re going to assault might have a lot of mages, so always keep an eye out for magical disturbances!" Luo’er reminded her again.
"Don’t worry, I’m using the Passive Glyph as the Activation Glyph, and I’ve added the Delay Glyph, it will only consume mineral magic power. The disturbance in atmospheric magic power will be very small; even those as sensitive as me might not be able to detect it." Tangmo confidently replied.
"That’s good then!" Luo’er nodded. It was rare for Tangmo to show such maturity and understanding. Luo’er suddenly felt the heavy burden on his shoulders lighten considerably.
However, he had to remain vigilant because their current predicament was quite dire. They didn’t have information, they didn’t have support, and they didn’t know the specifics of their target either. Even now, Luo’er couldn’t be certain that Fu’en was indeed in the room that Azita had mentioned.
If they rushed in and startled Fu’en, he could possibly escape again. It might then become far more difficult to catch him again.
In terms of modern special operations, having any of these problems was a grave error. But Luo’er didn’t have any other options. Besides, since they had come to Otherworld, very few of their operations had perfectly met the conditions for a special operation. Whether it was their investigation of the Assassins Alliance a year ago, or the subsequent mission to rescue the Sub-beastmen’s village.
