Chapter 389: Chapter 382: Azita’s Compromise
After a while, the minor leader exited with a stern face, frowned at Luo’er, and said, "Come in, the boss is waiting for you inside."
"Thank you," Luo’er nodded and then stepped inside.
"Hold on, you can’t come in!" The minor leader instinctively stopped Yalunte. How could he let such a dangerous man in?
"Wait for me outside, Uncle!" Luo’er instructed.
Yalunte looked around, then nodded and said, "I understand. Be careful!"
He trusted Luo’er’s self-defense skills. Though Luo’er was not as good as him in hand-to-hand combat, he could hold off the enemy until he broke in. For Yalunte, these flunkies were just as despicable as riff-raffs. Killing them was only a matter of seconds. He had the ability to appear and help in time when Luo’er was in danger.
He stood still with his head down, brandishing his long sword, simulating a combat situation against multiple opponents and ready to attack at any time. As long as Luo’er was in danger, he could kill everyone around him within five seconds and then rush in to help.
Luo’er entered alone. The Hound Gang didn’t pull any tricks. Azita was sitting in his original room, waiting for Luo’er. Seeing him walk in, Azita let out a grin that hardly reached his eyes, a sign of welcome.
"Welcome, Mr. Luo’er!" Azita nodded slightly.
"Sorry for the intrusion, Mr. Azita!" Luo’er lightly bowed in response.
"I think I have said before - if you dare to come again, I can’t guarantee your safety," Azita casually asked as he toyed with a nail file.
"Indeed, you did." Luo’er nodded emotionlessly.
"You guys really have a death wish..." Azita shook his head, then asked, "So, Mr. Luo’er, what exactly are you risking to come here for, or you just simply want to chat with me?"
"Enough with the small talk. I hope Mr. Azita can hand over Fu’en, or at least tell us where he is," Luo’er replied bluntly.
Listening to his words, Azita’s smiling face froze. He put down the nail file and stared at Luo’er, saying, "I think I have stated before, we won’t hand over Fu’en."
"Isn’t there room for negotiation?" Luo’er asked.
"Not everything is negotiable, Mr. Luo’er," Azita replied, looking at him.
Hearing this, Luo’er couldn’t help but shake his head. He sighed lightly, looking regretful. Azita didn’t understand his meaning, so he stared at Luo’er attentively.
"You guys would rather take the rap than heed advice..." Luo’er shook his head and muttered under his breath.
"What are you muttering about?" Azita asked him. Since Luo’er was speaking Chinese, Azita had no clue what he was saying.
"Nothing..." Luo’er looked up, then glanced around, and calmly asked, "Mr. Azita, has your gang lost anything recently?"
"What do you mean?" Azita felt a chill in his heart upon hearing that, he had an instinctive feeling that something was wrong.
"For instance... a cargo transfer list..." Luo’er replied, with a triumphant smirk on his face.
Hearing his words, Azita’s calm facade collapsed. He squinted at Luo’er, spending a long pause before asking, "Did you guys steal that list?"
"Don’t put it like that, we found it," Luo’er answered, smiling, "Oh, your business is really booming. You deal in all sorts of things. Blaiqi... Earth... and even Ancient States..."
Seeing the serious look on Azita’s face, Luo’er shrugged his shoulders and casually said, "Oh, Mr. Azita, try not to be too nervous. After all, we all have our own paths to wealth. There’s nothing to criticize about that. The only issue is..."
Here, Luo’er paused, and Azita eagerly asked, "What issue?"
"One of my friends is also quite interested in your business. He borrowed the list... Oh, by the way, I think he’s a student at the Sacred Heart Magic Academy, so he plans to bring the list back to the academy to have a look."
When Luo’er got here, he pretended to be troubled and scratched his head, then he spoke in a self-blaming manner: "I just thought of something. It seems like our respected Bishop doesn’t really like people from the Ancient States. What if he sees this list, what can we do then?"
Speaking of this, Luo’er looked at Azta and asked tentatively, "Should I bring back our friend and return the list to you?"
Azta didn’t say a word, his face void of any expressions, his thoughts indecipherable. What gave his emotions away was the tight grip of his fist, trembling subtly.
Luo’er was staring at him, a provocative smile on his face. As he had anticipated, Azta was indeed very frightened. Dulens’ dislike for people from the Ancient States was well known in Holy Heart City. But Luo’er couldn’t be sure that Dulens wouldn’t vent his anger on the Hound Gang because they were smuggling with the people from the Ancient States, so he was always somewhat anxious.
But the reason he dared to take such a risk was because he knew very clearly that what he didn’t know, Azta was not necessarily aware of either. After all, one is a gang, and the other is the Church Court. They were like two parallel lines that never intersected. By operating inbetween, Luo’er was exploiting the asymmetry of information between them to threaten Azta.
In fact, according to Luo’er’s thinking, if he could make sure that Dulens would wage war due to the Ancient States, he could completely smear Azta as being from the Ancient States and let Dulens tidy them up. Even if things were clarified in the end, Dulens wouldn’t be able to do anything to the Advance Team, as the Church Court and the headquarter are still in their honeymoon phase. The Hound Gang could only shrug and bear it.
However, the Advance Team’s target was still Fu’en. They had absolutely no interest in Azta and the Hound Gang, and it was not necessary to disturb the entire Holy Heart City just for Fu’en.
"Have you made up your mind, Mr. Azta?" Luo’er asked.
"Hand over Fu’en to you, and you return the list to us, right?" Azta forced these words out through grit teeth.
"Of course, we are just after Fu’en, we don’t want to be enemies with the Hound Gang." Luo’er said with a smile.
"Then return the list to us first, as a token of your sincerity." Azta said.
"Mr. Azta, you don’t seem to grasp the situation. It doesn’t matter whether we hand over the list or not. Even without the list, we have a thousand ways to deal with the Hound Gang. As long as you hand over Fu’en, we will be at peace with the Hound Gang. It’s that simple," Luo’er took a step forward and said.
Azta’s arrogant attitude truly irritated Luo’er, even though he clearly had the short end of the stick.
The biggest difference between the Advance Team and the Hound Gang was that the Advance Team had the Church Court as a strong backer, but the Hound Gang could hardly get help from other allies in the face of the Church Court. Although the Church Court seemed indifferent to the Advance Team, Azta didn’t know that. For precisely this reason, Luo’er dared to pull the Church Court onto his chariot as a leverage to threaten Azta.
If Azta could get more intel about the relationship between the Church Court and the Advance Team, Luo’er would have surely been in the passive stance by now. It was exactly because of this asymmetry of information that Luo’er dared to play a bad hand like a straight flush.
"As long as we hand over Fu’en, you will let go, right?" Azta stared at Luo’er, asking through gritted teeth.
"As promised." Luo’er nodded.
Hearing Luo’er’s answer, Azta lowered his head, silent for a while. Just as Luo’er thought that he had passed out due to the anger, he suddenly spoke: "Fu’en is at... follow the river west to the city wall, the third house on the left... The house has three floors, Fu’en is in the fourth room near the stairs on the second floor..."
"Thanks for the hint!" While Azta was speaking quickly, Luo’er managed to remember everything he said. Rapidly recording useful information was a compulsory course at the academy.
"You’d better hurry up, because five hours from now, I will tell him to retreat!" Azta muttered under his breath.
"Thanks for the effort!" Luo’er nodded and strode out of the room.
"Are you willing to let us go now?" Azta asked, watching his retreating figure.
"Of course, there’s no hatred between us, is there?" Luo’er turned around, smiling at him.
Azta didn’t open his mouth, simply watching as Luo’er left the room. After a while, he burst into rage, sweeping everything on the table onto the floor. His expression became fierce, teeth gritted, panting heavily.
As soon as Luo’er left the room, the smile disappeared from his face. Knowing Fu’en’s whereabouts didn’t mean they had completed their job. Azta gave them five hours to capture Fu’en. They had to seize Fu’en within this time frame.
Although he said so, the truth was that Luo’er was actually bluffing. He couldn’t guarantee that the Church Court would lend a hand if a conflict arise between the Advance Team and the Hound Gang. Among all the Church Court entities in the Holy Heart City, only Shariya was willing to help. The others, who wanted to avoid troubles, were indifferent to the Advance Team.
So, they should avoid conflicts with the Hound Gang as much as possible. If a fight really breaks out and the Church Court just spectates from the sidelines, it would be awkward. Once he realises he was tricked, Azta will not let them off the hook, so they must capture Fu’en before the Hound Gang intervenes, then take him away from Holy Heart City.
No matter how powerful the Hound Gang is, it’s just a small gang in the east district. Once they left the district, Luo’er didn’t believe they could continue to swagger. It was only because the Advance Team was lacking in numbers, otherwise Luo’er would have captured Azta and forced a confession out of him with waterboarding.
