Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 304 - 297: Feliz’s Request
Chapter 304: Chapter 297: Feliz’s Request
"I, we eavesdropped on their conversation. They were talking about using the forbidden curse magic to wipe out the Otherworld army passing through the First Line Gorge. If they do that ..." Feliz trembled uncontrollably as she spoke, "... Otherworld will declare a full-scale war on us, and there will be no chance for negotiations!"
"Forbidden Curse Magic..." Yalunte’s eyelid twitched upon hearing her words. He knew that only a handful of mages on the entire continent could wield this forbidden magic. Most of them were elder Magic Conductors of the Church Court. Could it be that the Church Court intended to kill the invading Earth Army?
"Why are you helping these aliens?" Yalunte asked, looking at her.
"I..." Feliz dropped her eyes, seemingly recalling some painful memories, and spoke in a low voice, "In the Prophetic War 30 years ago, over 40 members of my family died on the battlefield, including my grandfather, father, uncles. I can’t stand seeing that again. If we started another war with the Otherworld, I can’t imagine how many more would die. Also, I just became friends with them..."
As a family of hereditary military officers, the Uzistas Family was at the forefront of the First and Second Otherworld Wars. Most members of their family died in Australia because of what seemed like a suicidal attack during the First Otherworld War.
After contemplating for a moment, Yalunte asked, "In addition to those people, is there anyone else chasing you?"
"Pro, probably not, but if they stay here, they’ll likely continue to pursue us..." Feliz sniffed.
"Alright then, clean up the bodies of your companions and follow me!" Yalunte ordered.
"But, Uncle Swordsman, please take me to Yazhi City, I..." Feliz pleaded urgently.
"Don’t worry, I’ll tell the Otherworlders about what you said. After you finish up here, follow me." Yalunte turned and said.
"Yes, yes!" Feliz nodded, lowered her head to look at her companion’s dead bodies, and tears welled up uncontrollably in her eyes again.
Yalunte felt his head bulge. He took out some paper and sent a message to the headquarters via magic messenger. Although it was one-to-one information transfer, the headquarters still followed Earth’s wireless communication rules. Information had to be acknowledged by the recipient before being sent, unless it mentioned no need for a reply at the end of it.
With a faint magical fluctuation, the magic message was sent out. Feliz, who was on high alert, subconsciously trembled and looked up at him.
"Magic Messenger!" On seeing the runes on his hand, Feliz called out as if she had discovered a new continent.
"What is it?" Yalunta looked at her and casually put his gloves back on.
"No, I just didn’t expect that you have a Magic Messenger," Feliz answered truthfully.
Yalunte just smiled without saying anything. As a former legion commander, he knew how precious the Messenger Magic was. Generally, only high-ranking nobles have such magic. Juniors like Feliz would have to wait at least twenty or thirty years to be eligible to use it.
"Are you hungry?" Yalunte asked as he sized her up.
Feliz was wearing a dress that reached her calves and leather boots. This was the standard uniform for female students at the Magic Academy, but in this wilderness, her dress became an obstacle.
If it wasn’t for the sturdy cloak that she wore, protecting her from scratches from tree branches, her dress would probably be a pile of rags by now.
She rubbed her arm. Her arm, as white as jade, was scratched red by branches, but luckily these were just superficial wounds.
"Hmm." Feliz nodded in agreement.
"Here!" Yalunte said, and threw her a piece of compressed dry food.
"What is this?" Feliz took the dried ration, looking at the packaging with a confused expression.
"This is food from Otherworld. A little bit of it can keep you full for a long time." Yalunte explained.
"Thank you!" Feliz nodded and then took a bite, she didn’t even tear off the packaging.
"You’re supposed to tear the packaging off before you eat..." Yalunte said, speechless. This was also his mistake as he didn’t tell Feliz how to open the packaging. He was so used to Earth’s things, so he assumed others would know as well.
Feliz struggled to open the packaging and then began eating ravenously. She was obviously very hungry. Yalunte sighed as he watched her disheveled appearance.
On a closer look, the girl was quite cute. At the ripe age of teens to twenties, she had a chubby face like a boiled egg. But Yalunte wasn’t interested in such a young girl. All he could think about was his long-lost son.
While Feliz was eating, Yalunte checked his messenger rune several times and found that there was no response. The magic messenger transmitted information quickly; it was no less efficient than radio. According to past experience, he should have received a reply from headquarters by now, but there was no news, indicating something had gone wrong at headquarters.
If what Feliz said was true, then the situation was indeed very grave. If the Earth Army was completely wiped out by the Forbidden Curse spell, the friendship that the two worlds had maintained for thirty years would come to an abrupt end. What’s even worse, the Earth Army of today was not the ignorant force it had been thirty years ago. Relying on their advanced command and combat system, it was unlikely that the Otherworld Allied Army could replicate the victory of thirty years ago.
However, considering his current location, even if he was to return non-stop day and night, it would take at least a week. By then, whatever was going to happen would have already happened.
"Sir..." Feliz was devouring her food and was about to say something, but was immediately choked, continuously pounding her own chest.
Yalunte helplessly watched her, then pulled out a bottle of mineral water from his own luggage and handed it to her after opening the cap. He had no idea when his backpack had come to contain so many bottles of mineral water. It was probably the mischievous Li Si who had swapped them out, as he distinctly remembered packing bottles of liquor.
Feliz took the bottle and greedily gulped down several mouthfuls, finally easing her choking. She then lowered her head to look at the clear water within the transparent plastic bottle, and couldn’t help but exclaim in amazement.
"Uncle, is this something from the Otherworld? Do you know people from the Otherworld?" She asked Yalunte with wide eyes.
"You could say that. I’ve helped them out a few times, so we have a bit of a relationship," Yalunte explained briefly.
"That’s great, Uncle! Could you take me to them? I want to share this news with them," Feliz said excitedly.
"I..." Feliz was instantly stumped by this question. After hesitating for a while, she finally stammered, "I...I have a friend from the Otherworld. If...if the two worlds go to war, then... then I’ll lose him..."
"A man?" Seeing Feliz’s expression, Yalunte guessed her thoughts, and so he instinctively asked.
"Um..." Unable to respond to Yalunte’s question, Feliz blushed and lowered her head. After a long time, she admitted sheepishly, "Yes, it’s a man..."
"Another ill-fated romance..." Yalunte sighed and muttered to himself.
During his many years of service to the headquarters, he traveled to and from Yazhi City countless times. Therefore, he naturally knew that earthlings and Otherworlders could never last, otherwise one of them would die from being unable to utilize the other’s world’s energy. Over the past thirty years, such tragedies have occurred time and again.
However, what he didn’t know was that the headquarters was testing the Mingming Plan. Once the plan was successfully implemented, love between Earthlings and Otherworlders would no longer turn into tragedies.
"By the way, have you ever seen an Otherworlder?" Yalunte asked casually.
"Yes, I have," Feliz answered, "When I was at the academy, I met an Otherworlder. He... he was very handsome and gentle... but he eventually had to leave the academy because he didn’t belong there..."
"Gentle... handsome..." For some reason, as soon as the two key phrases were spoken, Yalunte thought of Luo’er.
When she mentioned this person, Feliz couldn’t help but start grinning like a fool. It seemed that this Otherworlder had charmed this aristocrat’s daughter.
During his conversation with Feliz, Yalunte checked his messenger rune once again. There was still no movement - it seemed it really was impossible to make contact with the headquarters.
His mission this time was to find the Advance Team. Without the guidance of the headquarters, it won’t be an easy task to do so. However, since he was already close to the Advance Team, he might as well go ahead and find them. That way he could contact the headquarters via their magic messenger, and it would also give him a chance to see his son, whom he missed day and night.
Having made his decision, Yalunte stood up and looked at Feliz, asking, "Have you eaten enough? We need to hit the road now!"
"Where are we going?" Feliz questioned.
"Aren’t you looking for the Otherworlders? I’ll take you to them," said Yalunte as he untied the horse’s reins.
"Uncle, you’re heading north..." Feliz pointed out, having noticed the direction they were headed.
"Don’t worry, I promise you will meet the Otherworlders!" Yalunte turned back and reassured her.
"Oh!" Feliz looked at him and vaguely nodded in understanding.
"Did you finish cleaning up your companion’s body?" Despite knowing about the potential provocation, Yalunte could not help but ask.
"Hmm!" Feliz bit her lip, turned her head back momentarily, and her face once again showed a sad expression. The shocking scene of her friend’s death was still vivid in her mind.
"Let’s go. Don’t look back," Yalunte consoled her, waving to signal her to follow him.
