Chapter 303: Chapter 296: Shocking Secret
"Why would you do this? Many people will die, and we will be in complete war with the Otherworld." The girl asked through her tears.
"Shut up, a little girl knows nothing. Damn it, we should have butchered you all after you left the academy!" Odelas grumbled.
Next, rustling sounds came from the jungle again, and three similarly black-robed figures emerged and hovered around Odelas.
"Are all here, Odelas?" one of the men asked.
"There are only two left, and this little girl!" Odelas raised his magic wand and pointed at the girl.
"Just finish her, and we can all go back!" the man said as he frowned.
"Wait, instead of killing her, why not..." Another man clad in black began, a perverse grin on his face that made the girl cringe with fear.
His suggestion won approval from a companion, but the worried man cautioned, "Don’t mess things up at this critical juncture. If we disrupt the plans of the superiors, we’re all dead!"
"Relax, all the runaway students have been dealt with. She’s all that’s left. Why not take her with us, and we can all have a bit of fun!" the man suggested.
"Odelas, you make the decision!" The worried man looked at Odelas helplessly and said.
Odelas looked at him, then chuckled, "Since she’s the only one left, instead of killing her, we might as well make use of her."
"I’m just worried someone might see. I seem to smell something odd, not sure if anyone is near." The man claimed, worried.
"Don’t worry, even if there is someone, they are not our match." His companion confidently responded, then took a step forward, looked at the girl and said, "Since Odelas spoke, then I will not be polite."
"You are faithful followers of the Goddess of Light, the most trusted disciples of the Pope. How can you do such disgusting things." The girl retreated subconsciously, and asked with a trembling voice.
"Little girl, even a devotee needs to vent, I’m just a normal man!" The man said laughing wickedly and was about to pounce when suddenly Yalunte’s horse rose from the ground, sparking fear and causing the men to raise their magic wands.
"There is a horse, indeed there must be someone nearby!" The previously worried man seemed even more nervous at the sight of the horse.
"Stop making a fuss about nothing, it’s just a wild horse!" Odelas shook his head, raised his magic wand, and then prepared to chant a spell.
Suddenly, above their heads, came the sound of a metallic sheath. Next, a towering figure appeared among them.
Odelas only felt a cold light flash before his eyes, and his right hand holding the magic wand lost sensation. He looked closely and discovered that his hand had been cleanly severed, and fresh blood was gushing out.
The one who cut off his arm was none other than Yalunte. With a downward swipe, he severed Odelas’s arm in one swift movement. He then swung his sword, aimed at his throat, and forced him to stand on his tiptoes.
Next, he pulled out a pistol from his waist, pointed it at the man’s skull, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
There was a loud crack and the man’s skull was blown apart by the bullet. Bits of brain and bone flew around. He spun the pistol and shot the two men behind Odelas, one bullet each.
With two more loud cracks, the two men’s skulls exploded. In such a close range, Yalunte hardly needed to aim. He just had to straighten his arm, to press the muzzle against their foreheads.
Within a flash, Yalunte had killed three men and subdued Odelas. His arm had been chopped off.
Yalunte grimaced at the bloody scene, his back against Odelas, his sharp sword against his throat. He spoke casually, "Mr. Odelas, that horse is not my property. If you had killed it, it would have been troublesome for me."
"Who... are... you?" Odelas covered his severed arm, his wide eyes on Yalunte, uttering each word with difficulty.
Yalunte turned to look at him, a faint smile on his face, "Yalunte, Yalunte Burlingchi!"
"You, you, Church, traitor!" Odelas grunted, his face contorted with agony, wrestling with the words.
You really have a way with words, even when I have you completely at my mercy, you still act so arrogant!" Yalunte sneered and ran his sword across Odelas’s neck.
The sharp blade slit Odelas’s throat in an instant. Before the blood gushed out, Yalunte jumped away, avoiding the blood spatter. Odelas held his throat with what was left of his arm, but slowly sank to the ground and became quiet.
Looking at him fall, Yalunte sighed and wiped the blood off his sword on a body. He examined his sword and mused, "It’s actually fine, just a bit soft."
He returned the sword to its sheath and stashed his pistol back in its holster. After all that, he turned back to the girl, who was curled up by the tree trunk with her face drained of color as she stared at him. The fear on her face still hadn’t diminished.
"Hey, it isn’t fair for you to look so scared after I saved you!" Yalunte said, looking at her.
"Are you the legendary Mr. Sword Saint, Yalunte?" the girl asked, her voice quivering.
"Indeed, it is I!" Upon hearing the girl utter his name, Yalunte felt rather pleased.
"Don’t come near me..." seeing Yalunte’s smug expression, the girl shivered slightly, retreating another step.
"Why so scared of me? Do you think I’ll eat you?" Yalunte looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"The grown-ups told me that Yalunte likes to steal young girls!" The girl looked at him fearfully, speaking timidly.
"Who said that? Cowards who can’t defeat me resort to slander!" Upon hearing the girl’s words, Yalunte suddenly grew angry.
"They say that, that once you even stole a princess..." The girl spoke faintly.
"Who told you I stole a princess? We were truly in love, she is my wife!" As soon as the princess was mentioned, Yalunte’s face quickly iced over, it was as if someone had torn open a very old wound.
"Is, is that true?" The girl asked timidly.
"Hmph!" Yalunte didn’t answer her question, but turned around angrily and left. He didn’t pay any more attention to the girl, but walked straight to his horse, slapping it on its forehead in anger.
"You lazy horse, have you rested enough? It’s time for us to move on!" Yalunte declared furiously, directing his anger at the innocent horse.
"Wait, wait a second, Mr. Yalunte!" At that moment, the fragile voice of the girl reached him from behind. She had decided to trust Yalunte’s words, so she walked out of the bushes, stumbling as she went.
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll take you away?" Yalunte asked, still simmering with anger.
"I’m sorry, please forgive my rudeness, Mr. Yalunte, I was hoping to ask for your help!" The girl said apologetically.
Yalunte turned to look at her. She was in a sorry state, covered in wounds, her frail figure looking as though it might fall at the slightest gust of wind. He couldn’t help but sigh, his heart softening.
"What’s your name?" Yalunte asked her.
"I, I am called Feliz Uzstas..." The girl lowered her head and after a moment’s hesitation, she responded.
"Hold on, are you from the Uzistas Family?" Yalunte narrowed his eyes at her.
"What’s the matter?" Facing his gaze, Feliz felt a wave of anxiety wash over her.
"How strange! So someone actually dared to chase a member of the Uzistas Family." A trace of a smile appeared on Yalunte’s face.
The Uzistas Family was one of the four major families in Odelanqi and a renowned militant clan. Most of its members were military personnel who held influential positions in the Odelanqi armed forces.
"It’s because I discovered their secret, that’s why they..." Just thinking about the plight of her companions caused Feliz to burst into tears.
"Who are these people that are hunting you down?" Yalunte asked.
"They... they are teachers from the Magic Academy..." Feliz sobbed as she answered.
"Teachers..." After scrutinizing the uniform beneath the girl’s cloak, Yalunte realized it was indeed the dress code for the Magic Academy students, causing him to doubt," You’re from Sacred Heart Magic Academy, what brought you to the banks of the Roen River?"
"The Academy organized us to practice here, but we didn’t expect that they would..." Feliz started to sob again as she spoke.
"What did they do?" Yalunte asked, keeping his eyes on her.
"We found out their secret, which is why they’ve been relentlessly hunting us down. Mr. Sword Saint, do you know where the people from the Otherworld could be?" Feliz looked at him with an intense expression as she asked.
"Otherworld..." Yalunte was accustomed to the term ’Earth people,’ so hearing the term ’Otherworld people’ took him a moment to comprehend.
"What do you want with the people from the Otherworld?" He asked, furrowing his brow.
In his impression, it was unlikely for students from the Magic Academy to have any involvement with Earth people. After all, they were the reserves for the Church Court and would eventually join the mage corps of the Church Court.
"I have a major secret to tell them. If I don’t hurry, many, many of them will die!" Feliz said to him, her eyes wide with anticipation.
"A major secret, what is it?" Yalunte asked again.
"Someone, someone is planning to attack the army of the Otherworld people and annihilate them at the First Line Gorge" Feliz said in raw excitement.
"Wait, how do you know that someone is planning to attack the army from the Otherworld?" Yalunte frowned as he asked, he was surprised because he never received any information from Headquarters regarding any plans to mobilize the Earth people’s army.
