Chapter 1107 - 1100: Source River Phenomenon

Chapter 1107: Chapter 1100: Source River Phenomenon

"What’s wrong, is there something incorrect with my question?" Luo’er asked.

"Why do you bother to ask me about the extinction of the Ancestors? You already know, don’t you? Besides, what you first asked about was Leviathan, not the Ancestors," Xia Yue said.

"But what you mentioned first was Titan, not Leviathan," Luo’er retorted.

"Heh," Xia Yue couldn’t help but laugh after hearing his retort and shook her head gently as she said, "You really are quite the sophist."

"So, the Scouring Sky Beasts in the sky and the Leviathans in the ocean, they are both ancient species of this world?" Luo’er asked.

"Mhm." Xia Yue nodded lightly.

"Then how did they manage to survive until today? Why have they remained alive while even the Ancestors have perished?" Luo’er asked.

"How should I put it, lower life forms have the advantages of lower life forms, and higher life forms suffer the tragedies of higher life forms," Xia Yue replied ambiguously.

"I don’t understand..." Luo’er said, shaking his head.

"It’s alright if you don’t understand," Xia Yue said, while adjusting the length of her fingers, "Sometimes, excessive desire can backfire. Simplicity is the truth of life."

"What do they live on then? I mean, what do they eat?" Baiyue couldn’t help but ask.

Xia Yue glanced at her, then answered faintly, "A substance omnipresent in this world, a substance never seen on Earth."

"Uh," the crowd looked at each other in bewilderment and then exclaimed in unison, "Magic?!"

"It seems you all are quite perceptive," Xia Yue nodded and said.

"But," Tangmo couldn’t hold back and chimed in, "it makes sense for there to be magic in the sky, but isn’t the ocean generally devoid of magic? If I remember correctly, magic doesn’t dissolve in water."

"How do you know there’s no magic in the ocean? Which scientific journal told you there’s no magic in the ocean?" Xia Yue asked back, comparing the lengths of her fingers without lifting her head.

"Uh..." The crowd was at a loss for words at her question.

"In the ocean’s depths, influenced by pressure and temperature, magic manifests as a liquid and forms magic rivers on the seafloor. This phenomenon is called the Source River phenomenon in the Ancestors’ field of science. Those Leviathans live on the Source River," Xia Yue explained.

The Ancestors referred to magic as the ’Source’, thus the Source River phenomenon could also be understood to mean ’magic river’ phenomenon. According to Xia Yue, under the influence of high atmospheric pressure on the seabed, magic takes on a liquid form. But she did not clarify how the non-water-soluble magic managed to seep into the seawater and accumulate on the ocean floor.

With a single command from Xia Yue, the Night Elves, without saying anything, followed Luo’er and the others’ carriage back to Antenisivia in a grand procession. Even though they only saw her from a distance, they were all satisfied, following Xia Yue without regret or complaint.

At dusk, the group, as usual, set up camp by the roadside. Busy with preparations, Luo’er and his companions went through a lot of trouble to make aromatic roasted meat, which they then offered Xia Yue to taste.

The Night Elves were also extremely committed; to provide Xia Yue with the freshest meat, they went hunting themselves, processing the prey before handing it over to the Advance Team.

"Here, try the meat we’ve roasted," Luo’er said, holding several skewers of roasted meat as he walked up to Xia Yue, who was sitting in front of the campfire, lost in thought, and then extended the skewers towards her.

Looking at the roasted meat before her, Xia Yue lifted her head, gazed at Luo’er who was looking down at her, and then beckoned him with her hand.

"What’s wrong..." Luo’er stepped forward curiously, but as he approached her, Xia Yue swiftly thrust her hand into his abdomen, and Luo’er’s face paled, nearly collapsing to the ground.

"Squat down." Xia Yue pressed down calmly on his innards, forcing Luo’er to comply with her gesture and squat down.

The others, witnessing the scene, were anxious but found themselves unable to move, which was obviously another one of Xia Yue’s tricks. It seemed that if she intended to kill someone, nobody else had the power to stop her.

"After all, I am your savior; can’t you show me the minimum level of respect?" Xia Yue said as she pulled her hand from Luo’er’s abdomen, then looked at her hand as it slowly transformed from a tentacle back into onion-like fingers.

"My apologies, Lady Xia Yue," Luo’er said, bowing his head respectfully.

"Enough, it doesn’t hurt; why the sour face?" Xia Yue said with a look of disdain, taking the kebab from Luo’er’s hand.

Luo’er reached out to touch the spot where Xia Yue had poked him. Aside from the hole in his clothes, his body was unscathed, with no wounds and not even a drop of blood.

"Please, don’t randomly poke me next time, it’s very uncomfortable," Luo’er said, frowning and speaking with extreme politeness.

"You don’t like it?" Xia Yue asked, nibbling on the roasted meat.

"Of course I don’t like it. I’m not a masochist," Luo’er shook his head as he spoke.

"So, it seems you prefer poking others, like, for instance, girls?" Xia Yue said with a sly smile appearing on her calm face.

"What are you talking about?" Luo’er said, his face turning red as he looked down.

"Ha, your thick skin hasn’t improved at all in years," Xia Yue couldn’t help but shake her head and reflect.

Every time he heard her say that, Luo’er felt a strange sense of dissonance. It was as if they had just met less than a day ago, but she gave the impression that they had known each other for many years.

This was primarily because while Xia Yue was healing Luo’er’s body, she also copied a set of his memories to herself, so she knew everything about Luo’er’s experiences. Naturally, this made Luo’er feel like they were old acquaintances.

"Don’t think that just because I look like a little girl, you can treat me as one. I’m old enough to be your grandmother," Xia Yue continued, speaking leisurely.

"Sorry, please forgive my impertinence," Luo’er said, bowing his head.

"Alright, just having the basic respect for me is fine. There’s no need to overdo it. It looks like your companions are getting quite anxious..." As she spoke, Xia Yue snapped her fingers lightly.

Suddenly, the members of the Advance Team were freed again. The unexpected release made them lose their balance, nearly causing them to tumble to the ground.

Tangmo crawled and scrambled to Luo’er’s side, checking his wounds while frowning and saying angrily, "Why did you hurt Luo’er for no reason!"

"When did I hurt him?" Xia Yue said without turning her head.

"Then why did you stick your hand into his stomach?" Tangmo asked.

"I was just checking his bodily condition," Xia Yue shrugged and replied.

"There’s such a checkup?" Tangmo asked.

"Of course, there is. Don’t dismiss something just because you’ve never seen it before," Xia Yue answered indifferently.

"You..." Tangmo was about to speak but was suddenly interrupted by Xia Yue.

"Little girl, you’re just jealous, aren’t you? You hate that I’m taking advantage of Luo’er, right?" Xia Yue said with narrowed eyes and a smile, "That won’t do, you know. You’ve caused big trouble last time and nearly got your dear Luo’er killed. What, are you going to make a fuss over this trivial matter again?"

At her words, Tangmo’s face changed instantly because Xia Yue’s remarks had once again pricked the page in her heart she dared not turn. She could never forget that it was her own jealousy that had almost led to Luo’er’s death.

"Lady Xia Yue, please don’t mention that incident again; it’s in the past," Luo’er said, his brow furrowed and his face serious, noticing Tangmo’s reaction.

"Some things, if not dealt with, will remain hidden dangers even if they’re turned over," Xia Yue stated calmly.

"Momo has realized her mistake, and she has corrected it," Luo’er said.

"But she still gets jealous as always, and still needs to control her emotions. If one day, she loses control again, the disaster that happened once might just repeat itself," Xia Yue said.

"I don’t care, I like her just the way she is!" Luo’er declared righteously.

"Luo’er..." Tangmo looked at Luo’er, touched.

"Hehe," hearing Luo’er’s words, Xia Yue suddenly showed a happy smile, then continued looking down at her fingers and said, "Love, whether it’s you or the Ancestors, is always such a virtue. I can’t understand it, really can’t make sense of it."
