Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 1034 - 1027: Difficult to Counter

Chapter 1034: Chapter 1027: Difficult to Counter

In the blink of an eye, a powerful and unprecedented aura erupted from the man’s body, its might so strong that it could even be observed with the naked eye.

With an ease that belied the situation, he twisted his neck, then pointed at Feng with a malicious grin, "Miss, please step aside and let me eradicate these remnants. Should you insist on siding with them, I’m afraid I’ll have to offend you!"

The oppressive aura emanating from the man caused Feng’s eyelids to twitch. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down, then raised her sword and pointed it at the man, "If you harm them, I will kill you."

"Miss, don’t be foolish. I do not wish to be your enemy. But if you persist in your delusion, you are by no means my match," the man said. Suddenly raising his hand, a fierce sword energy shot towards Feng.

This sword energy was not aimed at Feng, but rather at the wall behind her and the people on it. Despite this, Feng did not retreat. Instead, she brandished her blade, invoking her magic and forcefully received the strike. The strength of the attack was so immense that it caused her hands to go numb and involuntarily brought her to one knee.

Unable to help herself, Feng took a step back, then, gritting her teeth, she showed no sign of fear, her eyes fixed intently on the man.

"Why bother, miss? I have no intention of being your enemy. Don’t make this difficult for me," said the man, his eyebrows raised slightly as he saw Feng withstand the attack and he spoke coldly.

"Since you call me miss, then obey my command and stand down!" Feng mustered her strength to stand, her voice strained as she spoke through clenched teeth.

"Hehe, hehehe..." Upon hearing Feng’s command, the man did not comply; instead, he let out a mocking laugh.

After a brief pause, a barrage of gunfire erupted from the wall; several of the Advance Team’s automatic rifles aimed at the man and opened fire.

However, they clearly underestimated the man’s capabilities. He simply lifted his left hand, and an invisible shield appeared in front of him, deflecting the bullets fired by the Advance Team. Bullets ricocheted all around the battlefield in a storm of metal.

"Damn it, just as I thought. Switch to explosive bullets!" Luo’er quickly shouted out upon witnessing this.

While the gunfire kept the man under pressure, Luo’er took the chance to reload the rifles with explosive bullets, improved from shield-breaking bullets, and then pulled the trigger at the man.

With each bang, an explosive bullet shot towards the man, heavily striking the invisible shield in front of him. The compressed center of the bullet triggered the damage-causing runes within and exploded right in front of the man, breaking through the physical defense shield.

"What is this..." the man frowned and took a step back, asking with visible annoyance.

Luo’er’s attack didn’t have the intended effect. The man deployed his shield by channeling magic within his body, not through spells, so even when distracted, the shield would not disappear.

Moreover, as mentioned before, whether it was shield-breaking bullets or their improved version, the explosive bullets, they only served to disrupt magic shields. Unless they could directly penetrate the enemy’s body, they would hardly cause significant damage.

This was mainly because the killing power of the shield-breaking bullet relied on the damage runes inscribed using lasers within the hollow core of the bullet. These runes, powered by a magic crystal, had a pitifully low output. Unless fired intensively, they were unlikely even to produce enough magic to disturb a mage’s concentration.

In summary, shield-breaking bullets were experimental products: complicated to make and fairly ineffective, provided to the Advance Team for testing purposes. The real reason the Advance Team was equipped with these bullets was to target softer objectives that couldn’t use protective spells, using them as damage-increasing rounds rather than as shield-breakers.

Clearly, the man did not need to chant spells to wield his magic; therefore, he would not stop chanting due to disruption like a regular mage. Hence, the Advance Team’s shooting was at best annoying to him.

Seeing that shield in front of him, Luo’er couldn’t help but shake his head in frustration. If only Liseya, Cheng Ziang’s ancestor, were here, she could have pierced right through that shield, concentrated her magic, and burst the man’s bodily channels. Even if it didn’t kill him, it would severely injure him.

Unable to tolerate the disturbance of the dense bullets any longer, the man clenched his teeth and let out a loud shout. He swung his long sword in a wide arc, and a sword qi over ten meters long shot straight toward the wall.

Amidst the cries of shock from the crowd, Feng leaped high from her spot and caught the strike head-on once again. However, this blow taxed her heavily, sending her flying to the edge of the wall from the impact. She slammed hard against it, luckily not hitting the ground with the spiked defenses.

Feng felt as though all her bones were about to scatter. She couldn’t help but vomit a mouthful of fresh blood, then, gasping for breath, she lifted her head to glare at the man.

"Miss, do not persist in your delusion. What qualification do those remnants have that are worth your protection? Once I’ve killed them all, I will take you back to see the master." Seeing Feng in a sorry state, the man frowned slightly, his expression slowly becoming more solemn.

"You dare!" Feng stood up abruptly, holding her broadsword and pointing it at the man, shouting through gritted teeth.

"Miss, if this continues, I will start to get angry..." The man extended his hand to activate a shield, blocking the bullets from the Advance Team, then looked at Feng and said coldly.

Feng didn’t speak, but with a swing of her hand, she launched a ground-splitting slash at the man. This kind of attack, soaring upwards from the ground, was easily avoidable. The man didn’t even use his shield to defend and simply sidestepped it, effortlessly dodging the strike.

However, this move was clearly just Feng’s feint. The moment the man dodged, taking advantage of the mobility gear, Feng kicked off the wall fiercely and aimed her broadsword straight at the man’s chest.

She wanted to take down this terrifying man with close combat!

Feng’s offensive was incredibly fierce. The people on the wall felt it tremble slightly, and in the blink of an eye, Feng was upon the man like an arrow released from a bow, her gleaming broadsword about to pierce his chest.

The man’s eyes widened, evidently surprised by Feng’s fierce onslaught, but he didn’t panic. He twisted his body slightly and dodged the lightning-fast strike.

Immediately after that, he reached out to grab Feng’s wrist and laughed coldly, "Miss, your speed is impressive. To cultivate this technique to such a level without any help is truly genius, but..."

As he spoke, his expression suddenly turned grim. Releasing his long sword and forming a hand into a palm, he shouted, "Gathering Fields into the Ocean!"

Then, he slapped his palm onto Feng’s chest. A strong surge of magic power burst from his palm, instantly rupturing Feng’s meridians. Feng’s complexion changed instantly, and after a scream, she spit out a mouthful of fresh blood.

The man let go of Feng’s wrist, and she fell to the ground like a kite with its string cut, rolling awkwardly several times, her broadsword flying off to the side.

She appeared to be in great pain, curling up on the ground and moaning weakly, one hand pressing forcefully against her chest—a clear sign that the man’s strike had injured her deeply.

"The injury gate is closed, miss. Don’t get upset anymore; it will only cause you more pain. After I dispose of these remnants, I will help you open the injury gate," the man said to Feng calmly.

"Feng!" Luo’er yelled, hammering the wall in frustration. He couldn’t believe that the invincible Feng was taken down by that man in just one encounter, whilst their weapons were ineffective against him. All they could do was watch helplessly as Feng writhed in agony.

The man before them was too strong, surpassing their wildest imagination. Luo’er had thought that with Feng, the Advance Team would be unrivaled in the Otherworld. Yet, there was always a higher sky and a person beyond one’s peers.

This man wielded magic in the same way as Feng but was even more skilled. Luo’er now regretted not bringing Liseya along. If they had the killing god with them, why would they fear the man before them?
