Chapter 98: Chapter 90 The Kingdom of God (Seeking First Subscription)
God’s kingdom was established within God’s dream.
In this kingdom, everything sprang into existence from Chen Yi’s creation ex nihilo.
He stood upon the clouds, with angels guarding each of the eight directions of heaven and earth.
Yet Chen Yi still had not found answers in his own humanity.
Fortunately for God, waiting was of no consequence.
In this kingdom of goodness and beauty where everything was plentiful,
Time
held no meaning.
The angels possessed free will, and after taking their posts in the various regions of heaven, they began to transform them, creating places ablaze with fire yet lush with greenery, and boundless snowy landscapes that were warm as spring...
Such impossible sights on earth were all possible in this sacred realm.
The angels feared loneliness, feared solitude, so they sought God’s consent.
"God,
may we create other angels?"
The angels looked up to God in the clouds, their thoughts formed by God’s spirit, naturally complying with God’s will.
"If it is your wish, then so be it."
God proclaimed from amidst the clouds.
The angels rejoiced exuberantly, the eight holy and beautiful angels returning to their respective domains and, with God’s power, created more angels.
Time passed slowly.
After countless setbacks, the eight angels finally created other spiritual beings like themselves.
The angels created by the original angels, although also spiritual beings, were much weaker than their creators and were called subordinate angels by the eight Great Angels.
As soon as the subordinate angels arrived above the Cloud Sea, the eight Great Angels took them to meet the magnificent God.
Chen Yi saw them.
"How pure."
Hearing God’s assessment, the eight Great Angels were overjoyed, thanking Chen Yi for his praise.
"God,
it is you who are pure.
It is because you created us that we were able to create them."
The most recently created angel, Maisy, so spoke.
Maisy stepped forward, kneeling down and kissing the back of God’s hand.
"Maisy, you are the purest among them."
Upon receiving God’s praise, Maisy became overjoyed, like a child receiving an adult’s compliment.
God looked at Maisy, whose heart was purer and more flawless than the other seven Great Angels put together.
The other seven angels also came forward, intimately and venerably kissing the back of the hand.
Chen Yi silently watched their actions,
aware that these angels were expressing their love, their respect, their kindness...
They had free will, just like humans.
But He failed to see the meaning in it.
Whether it be humans or angels.
The human side of himself longed for heaven, and so He created this kingdom; His human side longed for brilliance, for angels, and so He created these angels.
This was because God hoped His humanity would answer that question.
But that darker side of Himself remained silent.
As if waiting quietly for something.
Chen Yi knew that He could cast aside that remnant of humanity whenever He wished.
But to do so would be meaningless.
...
The angels of the kingdom were all naive and innocent.
Knowing nothing of corruption like greed, lust, envy, born in this kingdom of ultimate goodness and beauty, how could they ever fall?
The angels loved this ultimate land of goodness and beauty, where they could create or discard at will; they had what they desired, lost what they wished to lose. If they grew tired, they could forget the feeling of weariness; if they were satisfied, they could make themselves yearn again...
In short, the dream of God was a place where thoughts became reality.
The angels praised God on His throne, thanking Him for their creation.
Each time they vied to recite poetry to God, Chen Yi would smile faintly, and then listen closely.
The angels rejoiced in God’s praise, sang for the voice of God, always so joyful, so free, able to sigh with grief one moment and be carefree the next.
Yet...
Not one angel saw joy in God’s eyes.
The first to notice this was one of the eight Great Angels, Maisy.
Maisy informed the other seven Great Angels created directly by God, who instantly became restless and anxious, and discussed for a very long time.
The Great Angels tried everything, hoping to see joy in God’s eyes, but no matter how beautiful the poems they created, no matter how radiant their praises, nothing could induce a genuine smile from God.
They were panic-stricken.
Could it be that God felt no joy in this sacred kingdom?
This kingdom of ultimate goodness and beauty alone lacked God’s pleasure.
Had someone hidden God’s delight?
The Great Angels were baffled, becoming frantic and worried.
Chen Yi noticed their anxiety and asked them:
"What’s the matter? Why is there more worry than joy, more agitation than peace?"
"God,
With just a glance, you can see through our hearts."
The first-created angel Solamus was the most beautiful and moving, and the closest to God, his voice melodious and full of emotion,
"It is your happiness we worry for, your joy that unsettles us."
Another Great Angel, Schiller, who resembled a long snake, also spoke up:
"God,
"Could it be that our actions have displeased you?"
And then, the rest of the Great Angels asked in unison:
"God,
why don’t you smile from the heart?
What has stolen your joy, and what has hidden your delight?"
The kind and pure voices of the Angels fell on Chen Yi’s ears as He gazed at the eight Great Angels.
After a long while,
"Joy, delight...
these have no meaning to me, just like sacrifice."
God replied upon seeing the worry on their faces.
Panic surged in the minds of the eight Great Angels; joy and delight were what the Angels valued most, yet God said these things were meaningless to Him.
"God... does sorrow, grief have meaning to you then?"
Great Angel Maisy asked anxiously.
"They are equally useless to me."
God shook His head and said:
"Maisy, many things are not simply black or white."
Hearing God’s words, Maisy’s head drooped down, as if a flower had wilted.
"Do not worry for me, Maisy,"
God extended His hand, caressing Maisy’s head, then turned to face the other Angels,
"You need not be too heartbroken either."
Despite what God said...
still... the Great Angels fell into even greater disarray.
It turned out that whether it was sadness or happiness, grief or joy, none mattered to God.
Not long after, the eight Great Angels took their leave from Chen Yi.
Angels are like humans, caring about joy, delight, yet these things they cared for, God did not.
Chen Yi sat upon the throne.
He looked down at the Cloud Sea, at the darkness within Himself.
Before entering the dream, His divinity and humanity were inseparable.
So...
He rejoiced, He saved.

..................................
That day, the eight Great Angels gathered together,
after a very long discussion, they finally found a feasible plan.
"Maisy."
Solamus spoke softly with six pairs of wings slightly open, standing before him was Maisy, the Angel who guarded the Southeastern realm,
"You should know, we were born from the spirit of God."
"Of course, I know, for that reason we possess fragments of God’s memory."
Angel Maisy was beautiful in form, pure and kind, though he seemed a bit naive and simple.
"Yes, we all remember, once upon a time on Earth, God had rejoiced."
Solamus spoke with grave seriousness, and the surrounding Angels nodded in agreement,
"So... Maisy, we need you to leave this realm, to leave God’s dream, and find God’s joy on Earth."
"I know... but... why must it be me? Aren’t you coming?"
Maisy asked worriedly; for he was the youngest among them, the last of the Great Angels to be created.
God had said that among the seven Great Angels, none was as pure and kind as he.
"You are the purest of us all,
and those Logos people have sung so many songs praising goodness,
when you’re there, they will surely respect you, they will surely cherish you."
"Our power can only allow one Angel to leave God’s dream, so, we cannot accompany you."
Solamus patiently explained to Maisy.
Maisy heard this and nodded, realizing that the responsibility was his alone.
Thinking this, Maisy proudly raised his face.
"Maisy, may the people of Logos cherish you as we do."
Several Great Angels stepped forward, saying in unison.
Maisy was deeply moved; he was the youngest of the Great Angels and thus received special attention from the others.
"Maisy."
Solamus continued to advise:
"If you go to Earth, you cannot appear to them as an Angel, otherwise their respect and care will surely not come from the heart.
If it is not heartfelt, how can it bring joy to God?
Therefore, you must become human, temporarily forget your memories as an Angel, and have a new name."
Maisy thought Solamus spoke sensibly and nodded in agreement.
"Do not worry for me, Angels,"
Maisy spoke softly:
"Humans are the children of God, regardless, I will believe in the goodness of the world."
The seven Great Angels nodded in approval, each offering blessings and singing hymns for Maisy. They embraced one by one, kissing on foreheads and cheeks, bidding farewell to each other.
Afterward, the kind Maisy chose for himself a new name.
Basel.
A name so ordinary it could not be more so.
A name many Logos people would have.
Meaning,
one who is like a King.
