Chapter 99: Chapter 91 Elves!
Bandi’s promise brought boundless joy to the Three-eyed Ape People.
When the Salas Elder announced in front of everyone the gifts the Logos people would bring to the Three-eyed Ape People, the whole tribe boiled with excitement.
"Logos people, cheer for our friendship!"
"Pottery? Wheat? What are those?"
"They must be good things!"
"Praise you, Logos people!"
...
Listening to the cheers and praises of the Three-eyed Ape People, the emotions of the Vanguard members also surged, soaking in this celebratory atmosphere.
With a grand gesture, the Salas Elder signaled several Three-eyed Ape youths to act. They carried a large wooden chest from the storehouse of the Temple and placed it in front of the Logos people.
A young girl took various items from the chest. Basel looked closely: one was a shiny green, slightly blunt-tipped oval leaf of an unknown grass or flower; another was a colorful rock salt; and another, a dark brown resin...
"This is oregano, this is myrrh, this is rock salt, this is mint picked from the north..."
The girl held these colorful items aloft, and in those fuzzy hands, they looked enchanting. Basel caught the scent of different fragrances.
They were all spices!
Basel gazed at the girl’s hands in astonishment, witnessing so many spices for the first time.
You see, in the Logos Kingdom, the most common spice was the dung of Unihorn whales. Artisans of the royal family would sift through large amounts of dung to obtain the precious Whale Oil Fragrance.
And this Whale Oil Fragrance was generally only enjoyed by the Nobility.
The girl noticed Basel’s look of amazement, and her face beamed with pride; then she took a small wooden box from the chest.
As soon as the box was opened, the Logos people present all turned their heads.
Inside lay a little mountain of pale yellow resinous spheres, exuding a faint fragrance, looking like golden raisins or pieces of precious Brass.
"This is frankincense. We dug it out of frankincense trees."
The girl happily introduced it to everyone.
Bandi looked at the spices in the girl’s box, his eyes flashing with a hint of greed.
The Salas Elder came over, closed the girl’s box, and said,
"Please be sure to bring this to your King; this is the gift from the Three-eyed Ape People to him."
The crowd naturally agreed, and Basel, standing aside, deftly engraved a record on a wooden plank with his knife.
It was truly a magical experience—who would have thought that a tribe living in an Oasis in the desert, a nascent civilization, would possess such an array of spices.
......
Time passed unnoticed into the night, and the Three-eyed Ape People brought out their best offerings to entertain the Logos people who had come from afar. After a grand banquet full of Coconut Dates, the Logos people were taken to stay in the homes of the Three-eyed Ape People.
After such a day, several Logos people were utterly exhausted, hoping to fall asleep early.
Basel felt the same, but he still mustered the energy to tell the hosting Three-eyed Ape Person that he wished to visit the Temple.
After reporting to the Salas Elder, the Three-eyed Ape Person granted Basel’s request.
The night in the Oasis was immensely silent, with the stars in the sky twinkling competitively. Basel was led to the open-air Temple.
The Salas Elder, leaning on his staff and holding a torch in the other hand, smiled kindly at Basel as he approached.
"Basel, what do you want to do at the Temple?"
Basel raised the wooden plank and knife in his hand, saying,
"Elder, I am... documenting. Documenting your... life, myths, and... thoughts."
He instinctively elongated his words to cover up his speech impediment.
The Salas Elder asked,
"What documentation do you need? Just ask me. Of course, you’re also welcome to look inside the Temple yourself."
Hearing this, Basel’s eyes lit up, and he nodded solemnly to the Salas Elder.
Then, the Salas Elder led Basel to sit on a set of steps, where the aged Three-eyed Ape began to narrate the story of the Three-eyed Ape People to Basel.
Long, long ago, the Three-eyed Ape People were nothing but a group of monkeys living at an Oasis in the desert.
That was until the Prophetic God Kagawus appeared.
Kagawus created the Three-eyed Ape People, and many Three-eyed Ape ancestors in the lineage of the Salas Elder had seen Kagawus’s visage firsthand.
The Prophetic God Kagawus taught the Three-eyed Ape People language, writing, poetry, and even how to cultivate Coconut Dates for survival...
No one knew why Kagawus held such knowledge; the ancestors of the Salas Elder had asked many times, but Kagawus never provided an answer.
Besides these,
The Prophetic God Kagawus had also bestowed upon them a divine power tied to the survival of their race—the Power of Prophecy.
"Power of Prophecy?"
Basel asked in amazement.
"Yes, the Power of Prophecy."
The Salas Elder smiled and spoke at length,
"Do you see the eye on our foreheads? That is the Eye of Prophecy blessed upon us by Kagawus.
Through this eye, we communicate the Divine Power of Kagawus and prophesize the fortunes and misfortunes of our future.
Every Three-eyed Ape Person can use the Power of Prophecy after reaching adulthood, but... a person can only use it three times in their life. Upon the fourth... that person will go utterly mad. Our humble bodies cannot contain too much of Kagawus’s Divine Power."
Listening to the Salas Elder’s story, observing the eye on his forehead, Basel suddenly felt as if he were in the midst of a strange legend.
