Chapter 93: Chapter 85 Another Group of Rational Beings

How long is three hundred years?

For the people of Logos, that was nearly half a lifetime.

In the rush of three hundred years, Yarlessto’s eldest son, Dovlo, grew from a youth into a robust man.

As the third-generation King of the Logos Kingdom, King Dovlo was very much like King Yarlessto.

At least in his youth, under the education of his father Yarlessto, Dovlo’s character was quite similar to that of his father.

At the beginning of his reign, due to the proper arrangements made by King Yarlessto before his death, and Dovlo’s awareness of his father’s impending demise, he learned to take initiative, assume responsibility, and continued his father’s governance over the Kingdom.

Sometimes, King Dovlo would deliberately imitate King Yarlessto’s policies and actions within the kingdom, striving to keep the kingdom stable and secure.

In his youth, King Dovlo was talented and possessed the courage of a young man to innovate. By middle age, however, King Dovlo’s character had become more timid, and his governance tended toward preservation.

Fortunately, the environment in the Logos Kingdom was stable, without any external threats from enemy nations or realities of cultural invasions.

As for the second rational crisis, over three hundred years, the people of Logos slowly accepted the fact that God had departed. The wise priests also proposed various theological theories, such as "God is still watching over us" and other intangible theories like "God in the unseen."

Since the Logos Kingdom had transitioned into a period of agriculture and animal husbandry, the society in the Logos Kingdom changed with the agricultural cycle.

The people of Logos naturally celebrated the harvest and, during the unplantable season of December in winter, they welcomed downtime from farming, ceased their work, and collectively went to the mountain altar for worship.

The worship of God by the Logos people had never ceased, and over time, the December worship gradually evolved into a collective holiday known as—Pilgrim’s Day.

After the death of King Yarlessto, the major responsibility of worship fell upon King Dovlo and the priests of the Pattern Garden. On Pilgrim’s Day, King Dovlo would first offer his sacrificial gift, followed by the Law Garden priests, then the kingdom’s nobles, and finally, the offerings of the common people were collectively presented.

Despite frequent emphasis within the kingdom against blood sacrifices, slaughtering cattle and sheep for divine sacrifice was still not uncommon.

King Dovlo took this matter seriously. He pondered for three days and nights, discussed with the priests of the Pattern Garden for nine days, identified the issue, and after consulting the opinions of the major nobles, made his final decision.

"The matter of sacrifice must be strictly according to the historical records," King Dovlo decreed.

The history books he referred to were naturally the "Book of Kings and Prophets" compiled by Yarlessto.

The people of Logos did not yet have laws, and the concept of a legal system was far from them. Their behaviors and actions were always guided by established moral customs.

And "The Book of Kings and Prophets" was undoubtedly the codified record of these moral customs.

King Dovlo did not realize that his decision would take the Logos Kingdom a crucial step towards "law."

After the sacrifices on Pilgrim’s Day, the Logos people gathered together to host feasts, exchange gifts, watch public performances by poets, and cheered for newly created historical epics.

This celebration belonged to the entire kingdom, regardless of gender, age, or social class.

The Logos civilization flourished more and more as time passed.

As for their unicorns,

According to King Dovlo, the development of the unicorns was exceedingly slow.

For three hundred years, regardless of how much technology and culture the priests of Logos taught to the unicorns, it seemed like casting pearls before swine, as each time King Dovlo visited the unicorns’ dwellings, there were almost no changes.

It was as if...

The fruits of civilization on the ground were not suited for unicorns.

Luckily, the life span of the people of Logos was long, and they maintained a lasting friendship with the unicorns, having enough patience to wait for the unicorns’ development.

"King Dovlo, here is a reply from the sub-kingdom."

The Attendant approached the palace, reported to King Dovlo, and placed a slab of stone in front of King Dovlo.

The people of Logos used stone and wood boards for writing, but because these materials were not very convenient, many nobles and commoners preferred the straightforwardness of murals over the obscure written words.

In other words, only a very few people in the Logos Kingdom were literate.

Of course, King Dovlo was one of these few literate individuals.

King Dovlo read the text on the stone slab, which detailed the recent state of the kingdom established by Dertulian. Since Dertulian was the second son of the Prophet, the people of Logos usually referred to it as the Kingdom of the Second Son.

The two kingdoms had agreed to communicate every five years, with the Unihorn carrying the stone tablets for communication.

"Is the ’Twin Kings Book’ to be written?"

King Dovlo said, astonished.

King Yarlessto had compiled the ’Book of Kings and Prophets’, which was the first official historical book of the kingdom.

And naturally, the second official historical book of the kingdom—’Twin Kings Book’—was to be compiled by King Dertulian.

Though there had been nobles compiling historical books in the kingdom since the creation of the first official historical book, none had the authority of the ’Book of Kings and Prophets’.

And, as ’Twin Kings Book’ was of equal significance to ’Book of Kings and Prophets’, it was naturally of great importance to the people of Logos.

’The Book of Kings and Prophets’ recorded the history of the first generation of people in Logos, while ’Twin Kings Book’ would recount the stories of the second generation of people in Logos.

At this moment, upon learning the successful compilation of ’Twin Kings Book’, King Dovlo felt his heart surge with emotion, as if the great deeds of his forefathers were within reach, almost tangible.

King Dovlo solemnly read each word on the stone slab,

At the end of the letter, King Dovlo read that King Dertulian was aging and in the twilight years of his life.

King Dovlo was not surprised by this, as the lifespan of the people of Logos was around seven hundred years, and King Dertulian had already lived for over seven hundred years; many people of Logos met death at this age.

King Dovlo merely felt a slight sense of regret that a king who had established a new kingdom would soon depart from this world.

After his reflection, King Dovlo set down the stone slab and decided to step out of the palace.

It was at this moment that someone else came to report.

The reporter was a noble, who pushed past the guarding attendants, out of breath as he rushed to the doorway of the palace.

"What is it?"

King Dovlo recognized him; he was a noble stationed at the kingdom’s border.

"King Dovlo, my king, I have urgent news to report!"

The noble said anxiously, producing a wooden board from his hands.

King Dovlo looked intently at the board, which bore an image. The figure resembled an ape, with three eyes on its face.

"My king,

My hunters had gone out in search of game, and then they mistakenly entered a wasteland."

"What happened?"

King Dovlo, seeing his urgency, asked proactively.

"They, they said, they encountered a group of Three-eyed Ape People... This group of Three-eyed Ape People could actually speak! Not only could they communicate, but they also hosted my hunters."
