"W...What are you talking about?" Logan stammered, intimidated by Alex’s dark glare. Alex’s voice turned cold

"I’ve never known you to stammer, Logan." His menacing raised brows made Logan nervous.

All attention was not focused on him, including that of the woman beside him. She was unsure of the situation, but remained silent as per the earlier warning when she flirted with Alex.

Logan, feeling trapped by Alex’s demeanor, tried to deflect by bursting into laughter.

"How could your wife have been drugged? Weren’t you supposed to be watching over her? Didn’t you say she was working late?" He kept throwing one question after the other in the bid to buy time the moment Alex began to answer them.

However, it only fueled Alex’s suspicions, knowing better the young brother he watched grow and even took care of.

Logan became this stubborn after Alex killed their father but Logan was too young to understand the details of the matter by them.

Alex was six years older than him, having seen things Logan hadn’t.

"I lied before to gauge the situation with the sedatives. It would influence my decision on who was involved," Alex explained, Logan was worried about Mia.

He was conflicted because Mia had done this to Joanna to prevent her from attending the event, as Logan had wanted.

"I got a message from my wife’s driver asking for help because he felt strange after lunch. When I arrived at the office, everyone, including Mia, was asleep."

Some guests at the table couldn’t connect Mia to the incident.

"Why would she be a suspect then?" Uncle Dean inquired, showing increased interest as Alex scowled.

"Isn’t it clear she’s trying to cover her tracks? No one would suspect her if she was found in the same state," Alex asserted, keeping his gaze fixed on Logan, scrutinizing his every move.

Why don’t you show us what you typed on the phone before reminding me about midnight and how I kept insisting my wife was on the way?" Alex asked, suspecting Logan was hiding something as he checked his phone and typed a few things.

His instincts wouldn’t let him drop the matter and Logan, feeling cornered, remembered his grandfather’s warning and contemplated throwing Mia under the bus to save himself.

However, he needed Mia alive for his future plans.

Alex’s ruthlessness, evident in his actions towards his own father, made Logan wary of what he might do to Mia, who had deceived him by pretending to be a victim when she was the culprit.

"Look, Alex, if you want my phone, you’ll have to give me yours in return. Can we make the swap now?" Logan smartly bargained, knowing Alex wouldn’t agree.

Alex always kept his phone close, due to valuable information related to the company. Unable to obtain proof from Logan, Alex was determined to find another way.

"Don’t worry. This isn’t over, but keep your hands clean," Alex warned before parting ways.

Logan breathed a sigh of relief, having dodged a bullet for now. Later, he called Mia on the phone after leaving the dinner venue.

She was sleeping when the sound of the phone woke her up. "Logan, how did it go?"

Her voice was laced with anxiety and excitement, hoping for good news. However, the response she received was unexpected.

"You bitch," Logan raged, finally releasing all the anger he had been holding in. "You almost got me into trouble. Get your facts right next time."

Mia shivered at the revelation, unable to believe that Joanna had won again. "What do you mean?"

"Joanna attended the dinner party," Logan stated bluntly, causing Mia’s expression to change immediately to one of despair.

"It can’t be. Daddy would never trust me again." How did Joanna regain consciousness so quickly? Then Mia remembered the pizza guy.

He sprinkled a small amount of sedative, which explained why she woke up early. Mia had tasted a bit to test it before eating a slice of Joanna’s pizza, ensuring they both had a similar amount of sedative in their systems.

Damn it! Mia had missed her opportunity, uncertain when such a chance would arise again.

"You should worry more about what Alex will do. He suspects your involvement, so I hope you have all your bases covered."

Mia froze, realizing she not only had to face her father but also Alex, who was not the man she had expected.

The first time she saw him in person, she had mocked him, unaware that he was the same man whose name had brought her respect due to the mistaken identity of the arranged bride.

After the accident, she had tried to distance herself from that title, only to discover that things were more complicated than she had thought.

Joanna, who was meant to take Mia’s place, had somehow found Alex and married him after being let down by Logan, not knowing he was the same man her father was trying to force on her.

The more Mia pondered these events, the more she realized she might not even be a player in the game.

Logan hung up abruptly, momentarily forgetting about the woman in the car with him. Ruby, on the other hand, couldn’t resist probing further, unaware of the man she was dealing with.

"Did you have something to do with her being late?" Ruby inquired, earning a sharp glare from Logan.

"If this information gets out, your entire family will suffer. Consider this your payment and a little extra to ensure your silence."

With a dismissive gesture, he tossed three bundles of cash at her, as if that was all she was worth.

Despite the demeaning exchange, Ruby eagerly accepted the money and hailed a cab, realizing that her involvement with Logan was merely superficial, limited to a one-night encounter.

Meanwhile, Joanna sat in the car with Alex, her mind consumed by a single pressing question.

"Alex, how did Jeremy become the new director of the marketing department at King’s Multinational?" she inquired, not seeking information but rather confirming her suspicion.

Alex, caught off guard by the unexpected question, struggled to provide a response.
