OMG!!! My Crippled Husband is a Hot, Powerful CEO
Chapter 50 – Alex’s instinct

Chapter 50: Chapter 50 – Alex’s instinct

Joanna struggled to contain her anger, especially when her attackers were Alex’s extended family members.

With most of them being around the same age as her mother, she found it inappropriate to talk back at them for Alex’s sake, stomaching the pain from the insult she just received.

She was not too young to discern the harshness in Agnes’s words, branding Joanna as a wayward woman but also her mother.

Alex’s expression had changed dangerously, and he pushed the plate aside, glaring at Agnes.

"Don’t you think that is hypocritical of a woman who had three children before marrying into this family?" He asked.

The look of shock on the faces of those present was a sure sign they were all unaware of this revelation.

Joanna felt a little better at the revelation that her attacker was not as righteous as she seemed and Agnes had an embarrassed look on her face.

This was a secret between her and her husband, being that they had even lived away from the Kings for decades to not make it known.

How in God’s name did Alex know this fact about her, using it to his advantage at a time like this?

What they failed to realize was the fact that Alex was Salvatore, having all the family’s deepest secrets in the back of his hand.

The middle-aged woman was greatly pained for her dirty linen to be washed in public.

Her husband was furious, not holding back and lashing out. "Alex, don’t insult my wife. She married me because her ex-husband died and my ex-wife died too. We both had children from different spouses."

Alex knew that was not the truth but there was a stranger among them so he held on to the rest with a warning.

"Then tell her to make sure she counts her teeth with her tongue before making another utterance against my wife or she won’t like me."

Uncle Dean was overwhelmed by the superior presence of his crippled nephew, making a final declaration.

"Alright. Everything is set for the wedding in two weeks but remember, your wife must be pregnant or you won’t have full rights as CEO."

Joanna shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Being pregnant was something far from her since this was just a contract.

After everything, she could live her life the way she wanted including falling in love with whosoever her heart desired.

She glanced at Alex, indirectly making him aware that nothing would make her bear his child.

Neither did Alex want her to bear his child when she wasn’t the woman he wanted to marry.

That was never a part of the contract. "Children are gifts from God and I won’t carry that pressure, nor bestow it upon my wife."

Knowing that he crossed the boundary, Uncle Dean gave up. "Okay, you are right but Logan hinted that this marriage was fake if not, why would you marry without giving her a ring?"

The attention was drawn back to Joanna. If not for this wedding, Alex would have indeed gotten her a ring but it was better reserved for the big day.

Joanna took the mantle this time, sure that Logan would be on her neck if there was any loophole in their excuse.

"I am the one who proposed to him. And I gave him a ring."

Heads moved from the left to the right in disagreement, as Nick pointed out. "That ring is a family heirloom."

"It’s my mother’s" Joanna countered, not willing to let go of the ring after the contract.

The more she mentioned it, the deeper it would register in Alex’s mind that she was going to take it back.

"My father gave it to her mother a long time ago," Alex explained but Uncle Dean observed something else and did not let it go.

"He said you are shy but you just confessed to proposing to him."

With everyone ganging up on them, all they had was each other so Alex defended the accusation once again.

"It’s complicated so I don’t expect you to understand. If there’s nothing more, my wife and I would take our leave."

Alex waited for anyone to counter his request and it soon came out.

"Your wife was late. It should not happen again during the dress rehearsal. I have to see her wedding dress," Agnes requested as a comeback.

That was tradition but neither Alex nor Joanna agreed with it.

"I’m sorry no one would see her wedding dress until the wedding day. I know the family standard and I promise she would be above and not below it.

There would be lots of guests from across the world as well as business partners so Alex was not going to bring shame upon the family.

Knowing that the position of the CEO was an enviable one, Alex knew they wouldn’t stop.

His ability to bring the company to the stage it was, was because of all the waste and fraudulent activities he blocked, especially coming from family members.

Alex was not there to be liked, but rather to protect the generational wealth passed down if he could not increase it.

It so happened that he was able to increase the wealth as well and that made him Grandpa Aristotle’s favorite.

However, what he could not watch happen was another attack on Joanna, especially when the issue concerning lateness was mentioned.

He quickly addressed it. "As for her lateness, I think it’s time for me to come clean."

"What do you mean by that?" Logan asked with unease, Alex smirked.

With his strong instinct and even without proof, he just had to strike and see what the outcome would be.

"It’s either you or Mia. Which of you laced my wife’s food with sedatives?" He asked, his tone menacing, and his glare cold, settling on Logan, as Alex watched his every move.

Logan was uneasy, wondering if Alex saw something suspicious about him. Did he catch a glimpse of the message or something? Beads of sweat covered his forehead.
