Chapter 85: Farming Date Quest
Lulu.. Coco thought, her eyes glued to the scroll before her.
She turned to the mediator waiting for her response, his hands balled into a fist beside him.
Are you being serious right now? She grumbled in her mind, her eyes narrowed into a glare as she stared menacingly at the scroll.
I literally told him that I don’t want to bring him because it’s dangerous, but now I have to bring because of the mission? And what? I only have twenty four hours? Coco could feel her grip around the hoe handle tightening.
"Coco?" Zaque called out, his face scrunched up in confusion.
Why did his wife suddenly stop walking? Why did she look at him with a certain look in her face as if she was contemplating something and was being threatened?
Coco’s lips pursed into a tight line, her eyebrows furrowing as she ponder about her options.
Though, hearing the red haired man’s voice, Coco had snapped out of her inner turmoil.
She looked at him.
"You want to come with me, right?" She asked, her voice laced with uncertainty and worry.
Of course, Zaque brightened up in an instant and nodded his head fervently, already knowing that his wife would bring him with her— albeit forcibly.
"Okay." Coco grumbled and shook her head, "Stay close to me and don’t try to get distracted on our way through the forest, up to the mountain, got it? I don’t want to stop just to look for you."
Zaque nodded his head once again. "Whatever you want. Just take me with you."
He was adamant on going with Coco and she has no clue as to what the reason why. Did she do something that piqued Zaque’s interest? Did he want to get something deep in the forest that only he knows?
It’s only between the two reasons she could think of as of now, either he was hiding something or he just really wants to come with her.
"I take it that you have eaten your breakfast?" Coco asked, taking a step forward out of the gate and started walking down the path towards the forest.
"Yes, I have." The mediator answered, his strides long and quick, catching up to her easily.
"Then don’t mind me eating my breakfast on our way to the house." Coco murmured as she rummaged through the sling bag on her left, her free hand grabbing ahold of the wrapped breakfast that the Red Horse Inn’s chef prepared meticulously.
Zaque could only glance towards her, his red eyes landing on the way she was assisted by the small flying creature on getting the leaves unwrap around the food she pulled out of the bag.
He watched as the garden fairy said something to Coco that made her roll her eyes and smile before taking the floating food from the fairy.
He still couldn’t understand what the fairy was saying so all he could hear was the bell ringing every time she spoke.
However, as they go deeper into the forest, the harder it was to go through their path.
Zaque stumbled every now and then, his body struggling to adjust to the uneven surface, his feet accidentally getting caught on roots and branches, his body lurching and stumbling as he made his way through.
If it weren’t for Coco grabbing him either by his arm or his collar then he would have kissed the ground now.
Zaque didn’t want to say anything, not wanting to set off Coco and force him to go back to the village, he forced every complaint that wanted to get out of her mouth, even if the branches and leaves were snagging his clothes and scratching his skin.
Halfway through their destination, Coco eventually noticed how his breathing turned labored, her eyes swept over to him and watched silently as his chest heaved with exertion, fighting against the obstacles that surrounded him.
Zaque’s body struggled to move forward, his eyesight growing hazy as the trees loomed around them, their branches reaching out to catch in his clothes and hair; he walked closer to Coco, evading the branches.
With the ground being uneven and covered in fallen leaves, the slippery surface made it difficult to keep his footing.
He stumbled and tripped repeatedly, the branches of the trees seeming to reach out and tangle his feet, trying to slow his progress throughout their little journey.
Despite the abnormal obstacles before him, Zaque pressed on, his determination and plan to keep an eye out on Coco keeping him going even though the forest itself seems to make it hard for him.
To his relief, they soon reached the location that Coco was talking about.
"Go and take a seat by that unfinished house." Coco told him, pointing at the house a few meters away from the riverbank.
Wordlessly, Zaque as he was told and trudged his way towards that spot.
Coco took this chance to drop everything she was carrying and walk over to the small shed she built by hand, take the wooden bucket from inside and slammed the door shut.
She walked to the stream, her footsteps light and quick, her mind thinking of ways to make the quest get completed faster.
Lulu must have been pulling my legs. Coco thought, grumbling under her breath as she raised the bucket from the stream of the river.
She must have been having fun and tried to avenge herself after I asked for help the other day, huh? She walked out the shallow water of the stream, made her way to the vegetables and started to purify the water in the bucket as she did so.
As much as she was thankful, she still can’t help, but feel bitter towards the fairy.
"I’m going to water the vegetables!" Coco screamed at Zaque’s direction, "Yell bloody murder if you need something or saw a monster!"
She didn’t wait for him to respond and immediately went to her crops.
Only to have her jaw drop.
