New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 83: Confusion

Chapter 83: Confusion

The red haired mediator before Coco was panting heavily and sweating profusely, as if he had been running as fast as he could to catch up to her.

The mediator bent down and accidentally stumbled forward, making Coco catch him with open arms almost immediately.

"Careful." Coco warned him softly, stabilizing him before she quickly let go of him, as if she was touching a scorching hot pot on a stove.

Zaque’s body was still panting from the sprint he had just finished, his face was flushed and sweat-soaked, his shirt sticking to his chest with sweat, making his large and beautiful pecs visible—

Coco shook her head.

It was a sight to behold, but Coco did her best to keep her eyes on his face.

He was clutching a picnic basket tightly in his hand, his fingers gripping the handle so tightly that his knuckles were white, the picnic basket swinging slightly in his hand.

The red haired mediator’s face was flushed with exertion, his breath coming in short gasps as he tried to slow his racing heart.

Although, despite the fact that he was out of breath, the man still had a neutral expression on his face, his eyes locked on the figure of his supposedly wife that he had just caught up with.

He panted softly, his breathing coming in ragged gasps as he finally inhaled sharply.

"Why haven’t you dropped by the house for two days?" The question rolled off from his tongue, heavy and unsettling, almost uncomfortable.

When he watched Coco walk out of the door with an obvious frustration in every step, he had expected her to come back like how she had been doing for the past few days, but no, someone else had come in her place.

On the first day, he thought Coco was just busy.

However, he found out from Quizen that Coco came back from somewhere early and retreated back to her room that she rented in the Red Horse Inn.

Yes, Quizen has been keeping an eye on her.

Then, the next day, she had left earlier than Quizen expected because by the time he had clocked into the pub, Coco was nowhere in sight.

She didn’t come back until late at night.

Though she might have been in and out of the village, she still managed to run into the second and third husband, asking them for a favor and almost having themselves taken advantage of.

Zaque was shocked to learn that Coco had saved them.

She didn’t do that in the past— she was trashier than anyone could ever think of because she would purposely set them up in a situation where they would get themselves drugged and potentially get forced to do something they don’t want to do.

Coco Hughes would be the first person to come to mind which is why the fact that she saved Heiren and Alhai from the group of men yesterday shocks him to the core.

"Because I don’t want to be there." Coco answered Zaque’s question, her voice void of emotion.

The tone of his wife’s voice had sent a cold shiver down his spine, goosebumps rising in his arms as he tightened his grip on the picnic basket.

"I.. I see." The red haired mediator mumbled and swallowed thickly, "Why.. Why don’t you come over tonight? Heiren wants to cook something for you as a thank you and look, I baked something for you to bring to the forest as well."

Zaque raised the basket and forced a smile on his face, "Take this as a thank you for the things you brought for the house and for us."

Coco stared at him, no thoughts can be seen behind those emerald eyes of her, making Zaque shiver.

He had got used to Coco’s new personality of being cheerful and dramatic so the Coco Hughes in front of him right now makes him uncomfortable.

Thankfully, as if sending that he was getting nervous, Coco had spoken up and took the basket from his hand.

"Thank you, you shouldn’t have bothered to bake something for me. I was merely doing what we agreed upon." Coco stated, putting the basket on the hoe as well and slinging it carefully over her shoulder.

"About the dinner tonight.. I can’t come. I already have dinner plans, but I appreciate the thought." Coco refused the invitation as politely as she could, "Tell Heiren and Alhai that they shouldn’t go out of the village with just the two of them, it’s dangerous."

Zaque grew stiff, his red eyes squinting into a glare the moment he heard that Coco had plans for tonight.

"I’ll have Jacques send something for dinner and breakfast to the house again so don’t worry about me not giving the four of you the things you need." Coco added on to her previous statement with a small smile.

Although, that smile didn’t do shit.

In fact, it only made what Zaque was currently feeling worse.

"Jacques?" He inquired with the usual sharp tone in his voice, "So, you’re on a first name basis with her?"

Coco blinked rapidly and reluctantly nodded her head to answer Zaque’s question, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion, "Yes..? Jacques is my partner and friend so isn’t it obvious that I will be calling her by her name?"

Zaque’s glare only got worse.

"I see." He said, a scoff leaving his lips, "I didn’t know that you could do something like this after saying that you will change and is now someone new, but I guess not."

"Huh..?" Coco frowned at him, "What the fuck are you talking about now?"

"You make me sick." Zaque hissed towards her and turned in his heels, walking away from her which only made Coco’s confusion even worse.

"What the hell is his problem?" Coco asked no one in particular.

"He bought you something delicious." Lala hummed out, popping her head out of the picnic basket.

"That’s nice..? At least he thanked me, right?"
