Chapter 74: Fairy dust and guards
"We should leave this here for now." Coco stated, stopping the basket from floating further.
"Okay!" Lala agreed without hesitation, letting go of the bag and letting it sway in the air slightly, flying over to the basket and humming softly as she removed the golden dust she sprinkled earlier.
All of the golden dust twinkled brightly, making Coco close her eyes for a second, and got sucked in the garden fairy’s hands— every single dust moved in one direction, right in the middle of Lala’s palm.
"Woah.." Coco couldn’t help herself from being amazed, "What happens to that gold dust once you take them off from things, Lala?"
"They just get back inside of Fairydale’s dust chambers. It’s not like we’re using this dust to send something away so I can bring them out whenever I want and take them back in once I’m done." The garden fairy hummed out, closing her hands as every last particle of the golden dust disappeared.
"Ohhh.." Coco said, her lips forming a circle as her eyebrows shot up to her hairline.
"I can use fairy dust as much as I want and I can also get them back if I want to, the dust fairies creates a whole dam for each fairy so we don’t ran out of fairy dusts!" Lala explained.
"What if those fairy dust chambers gets full?" Coco asked, her curiosity hitting its peak.
Lala blinked.
"Full..? The chambers are endless pit so it never gets full no matter how much the dust fairies creates fairy dust." Lala said, tilting her head as she ponder about it, "As far as I remember, the fairy queen has made a statement about the chambers, but I couldn’t be bother about it."
Coco’s sweat dropped to her cheek, "Guess you have more important matters at hand, huh?"
"Yep! I was mixing a berry vine with a citrus fruit tree that time so I really didn’t hear what the queen said!" Lala agreed, giggling cheerfully as she recall the memory, looking proud and happy.
Coco could only shake her head at the fairy’s antics and sighed out, "I’m glad that the queen didn’t punish you for it."
Lala tilted her head, "Why would she?"
Coco raised an eyebrow and shifted the crocodile in her shoulders into a more comfortable position, "Because you didn’t liste—"
"Coco?"
Coco stopped herself mid sentence and quickly grabbed the floating bag, forcing it to her side.
The garden fairy’s face lost its color and she was fast to suck the fairy dust on the bag, a few sounds of panic and fright escaping her lips.
Coco turned around, the tail of the tough crocodile dragging against the ground and creating a shallow thin trail by her feet, looking at the owner of the voice which sounded shocked.
Coco blinked when her eyes met a beautiful pair of teal eyes.
"Alhai?" Coco cocked her head to the side and raised an eyebrow then another person made his presence known, "Heiren?"
She couldn’t help, but be shocked herself.
What are the two husbands of Coco Hughes doing outside of the village walls?
However, the relief washed over her like a waterfall, she thought that someone else have saw the bag floating, but it was just the husbands.
She let out a sigh of relief.
"What are you two doing here?" Coco inquired, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, looking between the silver haired mediator and the brown haired mediator.
".. I was asked by Old Jin to pick up a few specific herbs." Alhai answered, the previous shocked in his voice is gone and was replaced with his usual monotone tone.
Although, Coco could still somehow hear the hiss from his voice.
"Oh." Coco blinked and was silent for a moment, then, she nodded her head in understanding, "I see.. Would you two mind guarding the basket while I carry this monster to the butcher shop while you’re at it? I won’t take long. I promise."
Coco watched the two mediator as they exchanged looks, both of their eyebrows are creased in a unreadable expression.
"You can take any fruit you want from the basket if you want." Coco added to her previous request, a small smile creeping to her lips as she low-key added a bribe to make them agree.
She would rather have someone guard the basket while she makes a quick stroll towards the butcher than leave it out in the open.
Her original plan was to have Lala cover the basket with bushes, but since Alhai and Heiren has something to do around the area, she might as well ask them to guard it while they’re at it, right?
Alhai let out a sigh and said with an unimpressed tone, "Very well."
Coco brightened up and nodded her head as she started to make her way towards the village gate, they were just a few meters away from the main road so they are currently hidden away from the sight of the people by the watchtower.
"I’ll be quick!" Coco shouted over her shoulders and started running to the gates.
Alhai and Heiren could only watch her until she disappear from their sight, and once she’s gone, Alhai let out another sigh, turning away from the direction where Coco disappeared from.
"I’ll start picking up the herbs Old Jin told me to get." He muttered and walked past the basket, "Guard that thing and wait for her to come back."
"Will you be okay?" Heiren asked.
"I have done this several times to pay off our wife’s debt." Alhai said with a frown as he shot a glance at the second husband, "That should be obvious."
Heiren couldn’t say a response because Alhai was quick to walk away from him.
"Geez.." Heiren mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck as he shook his head, not liking how his relationship with Alhai hasn’t changed a bit.
He was about to settle himself beside the basket when he heard a gruff voice.
"Well.. What do we have here?"
