Chapter 51: Uses of magic stones
"I was just curious about the other magic stones, like what they are used for, what appliances they are highly suggested to be put into— things like that?" Coco said, her voice frantic and shaky, barely coming up with an excuse on the spot.
"Oh." Mrs. Tani blinked for a moment then she nodded her head and raised her hand, the blue magic stone being held between her fingers, "Well, this magic stone is used as running water and is usually put on the apparatuses inside the kitchen."
Ohhh.. So, in faucets? But they can put blue magic stones in a different apparatus as well? Coco thought to herself, nodding her head along as she listened attentively to Mrs. Tani.
"Here, fill this up with your mana, too." Mrs. Tani said, putting it gently on top of the silk and pointed a finger on the yellow magic stone which was shaped in a similar shape of a light bulb with rough edges, but she could still see the light bulb shape.
Seeing the yellow magic stone’s shape, Coco could already guess what it was used for.
"This one can be put in appliances that need power, although, usually, those appliances that need power need other magic stones of a particular attribute—" Mrs. Tani stated, pointing at the red magic stone that Coco had filled with her mana.
"— like that one, if you put it on an oven with this yellow magic stone, that oven will work, but if you only put one magic stone on it, it won’t work." She explained with a smile, withdrawing her hand back.
So, the yellow magic stone is the main conductor for every magic stone? Without it, those appliances that need electricity won’t work? Coco summarized in her mind, nodding her head as she put the blue magic stone back on the silk.
"Is the oven the only one that needs the yellow magic stone to work?" Coco asked, her mind drifting off to the conversation she had with Renaldo a few days ago about how he preserves meat.
"No, but it is expensive to get one because you will have to go to the main city to acquire a good quality one." Mrs. Tani answered, putting the red and blue magic stones inside of another wooden box that she brought out beneath the desk.
"Oven, fan, blender, and toaster— as far as I know, those are the things that you can buy with ten gold coins below." Mrs. Tani hummed out and pushed the wooden box towards Coco, "Why? Are you planning to buy one?"
"Yes, oven, blender, and that toaster sounds good." Coco said, the tone of relief evident in her voice, "How about a mixer? Do people sell mixers, too?"
Coco takes back her exaggerated reaction when Renaldo said that he doesn’t preserve the meats he butchers, she didn’t know that it was just too expensive for him to buy!
Hooray, magic! Hooray, magic stones! Hooray, magic appliances! Hooray, new world that doesn’t need science!
"Old Jin sell appliances that you might need. Her shop is near the town hall, I’m sure you won’t miss it because her shop is quite bigger than the town hall itself." Mrs. Tani stated.
"Thank you." Coco brightened up, a thankful and relieved smile settling in her face then her face contorted, "Right! Where can I buy a freezer? Does anyone sell a freezer in this town?"
"No.. only Old Sana from the main city sells a refrigerator, freezer, grinder— those that need at least four to six magic stones put in them in this land." Mrs. Tani said, blinking owlishly as she eyed Coco’s crestfallen expression, "But if you want.."
Coco perks up and tilts her head, "If I want?"
"If you want, I can put a good word about you to Old Sana and have that freezer delivered to you in a month from now." Mrs. Tani offered with a smile, the kind that a business woman shows to her potential customers.
"That would be helpful!" Coco exclaimed as she leaned forward, "I will give you discounts for a whole month for everything I’ll bring back from the forest until I get that freezer!"
Hearing the words from Coco’s mouth, Mrs. Tani brightened up significantly as well, "That would be amazing, Mrs. Hughes."
"Awesome! Now, I would love to get three red magic stones, three blue magic stones, three yellow magic stones, and.. Does this white magic stone go in the lamps?" Coco asked as she pointed a finger on the white magic stone.
"Yes." Mrs. Tani confirmed, nodding her head.
She turned to Zaque, who flinched slightly when he caught Coco’s gaze, "Do we have lamps at home that need to have white magic stones?"
Zaque slowly nodded his head, reluctant to let her know because why would she buy so many magic stones?
"I see." Coco smiled at him once more and turned back to Mrs. Tani, "I would love two of the white magic stones and one green magic stone— speaking of which, what does a green magic stone do?"
Mrs. Tani took a mental note on Coco’s orders, bringing out three more boxes from beneath the desk and placed it on top of the glass display, "The green magic stone usually goes inside the fan, mixer, or blender."
"Then I want one, too. That’s an equivalent of twenty gold coins, right?" Coco asks to confirm if she got her calculation right and leaned further forward.
"Yes, yes— you’re right." Mrs. Tani answered, putting the magic stones she wanted inside the wooden boxes with care and gentleness, "You can pay ten gold coins for now and give the other ten gold coins later on, I know that you have to go out of the village first."
Coco gasps quietly, a look of gratitude crossing her eyes, "You’re such a sweetheart, Mrs. Tani! I’ll give you fruits later for this opportunity!"
Mrs. Tani blinked, her hand freezing mid-air as she glanced at Coco with furrowed eyebrows.
