Chapter 50: Red magic stone

Chapter 50: Red magic stone

"That’s a fancy name." Coco hummed out, the excited smile seemingly permanent on her face.

"Ohoho, I’m honored." Mrs. Tani raised a hand and covered her mouth, laughing quietly as she spoke, "The people of Yogusho Village think otherwise. They believe that this shop wouldn’t last if I wish to build a branch in the main city."

"Well, Magia Pierre is a very fancy name." Coco stated, crossing her arms and nodding her head as if she was convincing herself more than the shop owner herself, "I didn’t see the sign when I walked in because I was excited to buy magic stones, but I can assure you that much."

Mrs. Tani only flashed her a business smile before nodding her head, "I see.. Back on the topic at hand, what kind of magic stone are you looking for?"

Being asked about the magic stone, the previous excitement brewed over and made Coco bounce on her two feet, "Right! I don’t know anything about magic stones because you know? I was busy drowning myself in those damned drinks?"

Coco can’t say that she doesn’t know a single about magic stones because she wasn’t born or grew in this world so instead, she used Coco Hughes’s wrongdoings and reputation as an excuse to make Mrs. Tani explains the uses of magic stones.

The stones have different colors, shapes, and energy— not that she’s an expert about it, but she can tell that much— so having someone who sells and seems to know a lot about magic stones tell her its uses will save her a lot of trouble.

Better late than nothing, right?

"Oh." Mrs. Tani blinked, a look of contemplation crossed her features for a brief moment before she nodded her head, "I understand. Do you at least know the fundamental functions of the magic stones?"

To answer Mrs. Tani’s question, Coco shook her head, wordlessly saying that she doesn’t.

"Oh, dear.." Mrs. Tani murmured, placing her palm on her cheek as her eyebrows furrowed in worry, "How did you manage a home without knowing the basics of a magic stone? Every home has an appliance or apparatus."

Simple! Coco Hughes was a trash who doesn’t manage shit in her own home and goes to the inn to drink alcohol and waste money! Coco thought to herself, tilting her head.

Mrs. Tani sighed heavily and brought out a carved wooden box from beneath the desk and placed it on top of the glass display carefully.

She slowly opens the box, revealing a variety of magic stones in various colors.

The stones glint in the light, each one a different shade and hue and the shop owner, Mrs. Tani, carefully lifts a red magic stone out of the box, taking care not to disturb the other stones.

She brought out a small square cut out silk from beneath the desk and placed it on top of the glass display for Coco to have a look.

From the sight of the magic stone, Coco’s eyes went wide, eagerness filling her entire being.

Slowly, the red magic stone made a soft clinking sound as it touched down on the silk, shaking lightly then gradually turning violently as if it was being attracted like a magnet.

"Touch it, Coco." Zaque spoke up, startling Coco out of her excited stupor, and made Coco look at him, blinking her wide, sparkling eyes.

Zaque felt his heart felt like it had skipped a beat, his breath catching in his throat as he saw the woman he had hated smiling brightly, his mind whirled before turning blank, his heart racing with the sight of her.

He felt a strange jolt go through his body, his mind struggling to process the sudden change in his emotions.

The sight of his supposedly trash of a wife, beautiful and cheerful, was so different from the woman he had once held so much hostility for.

He felt his heart flutter, his hatred fading away momentarily in the face of her bright smile.

"Can I touch it, Mrs. Tani?" Coco turned away from him and looked at the shop owner in wonder, "Do I have to pay for it immediately if I touch it?"

As soon as Coco looked away, Zaque felt like his airways started working again.

He raised a hand and placed his palm on his chest, grasping the spot where his heart is supposed to be, calming himself down as he inhaled and exhaled deeply.

"No, your husband is right, you need to touch it because it’s currently seeking mana to absorb for it to work." Mrs. Tani chuckled, the look of pure curiosity and excitement looked so adorable on Coco right now.

"Okay! How much for a single magic stone?" Coco asked, her eyes shifting from Mrs. Tani to the magic stone.

"A single magic stone costs two gold coins, but you can get three magic stones of your choice by five gold coins." Mrs. Tani answered truthfully, watching as Coco picked up the red magic stone from the silk.

"Oooohhh.." Coco drawled out, nodding her head in understanding as she felt the magic stone suck out her energy through her fingertips.

The sensation of suction made Coco shudder— it was uncomfortable at first, but she was quick to adapt to the feeling.

The color of the red magic stone soon got brighter and lighter, the red hue gradually changing into a lighter one which made Mrs. Tani nod her head in approval.

"If the magic stone changed color then it means it has absorbed the amount of mana it needs." Mrs. Tani stated, picking up another magic stone from the wooden box, "The one you’re holding is usually put on stoves. People from the main city call it fire stone rather than red magic stone."

"Wait.. You guys don’t use gas?" Coco inquired, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion after listening to Mrs. Tani, completely missing the point.

"Pardon? Gas..?" Mrs. Tani retorted back, tilting her head in wonder.

"Ah, no, nothing, nevermind—"
