Chapter 198: A breakfast invitation

Chapter 198: A breakfast invitation

"Why are we going to their house again?" Lala whined, grumbling inside of Coco’s pocket.

She had just woken up from her sleep and found Coco walking behind the two husbands, carrying two baskets of fruits and vegetables with another basket on the other hand filled with clinking jars.

Imagine her surprise when she saw the guitar case the fourth husband was hugging— she already knows who bought it and she can’t help, but feel annoyed.

Sorry, Lala. Coco thought to herself, casting an apologetic glance on the fairy’s way as she trailed behind the mediators who were conversing among themselves with a topic she couldn’t be bothered to remember.

Clink.

Clink.

Every step she takes will result in the jars bumping into each other gently and making a sound that resonates quietly in the air.

The walk towards the house was quiet and peaceful because the mediators didn’t bother striking a conversation with her— which she appreciates a lot, she’s not the type to talk too much in the morning.

"We’re back!" Heiren announced their arrival as soon as he opened the front door.

"Welcome back, Heiren." Zaque greeted the second husband, his voice still laced with sleep and sounded like he was muffling a yawn.

"Good morning, Zaque." Quizen greeted the first husband with a nod, following behind Heiren and quickly held the door open so Coco could walk inside the house without any trouble.

Zaque’s eyes went wide and the sleep that was clouding his senses earlier vanished.

"Coco!" He gasped as he sprung up from his seat and rushed to her, "Godness, you’re carrying a lot— hold on, did the two of them ask you to buy these things?"

"They didn’t." Coco said, assuring him with a small smile.

"She offered to pay for all of them." Heiren quipped, his face bright and full of glee as he shot Zaque a smile.

"Exactly." Coco agreed with Heiren, placing all the baskets on the table and being careful to not break the jars on the other basket.

"I bought everything Heiren needed so you and I will go out later to buy everything you will need to bake what you want." Coco hummed out, turning to Zaque with a reassuring smile— the kind of smile that made Zaque’s heart skip a beat.

The red haired mediator flushed with color, his hand snapping upwards to cover the lower half of his face, just in time for Coco to turn away to look at Quizen.

"Tell me if you need strings for the guitar, okay? I’ll give you money to buy some, or better yet, I’ll go with you so we can buy it together. It may teach me a thing or two." Coco said, her gaze flickering from the case to the mediator’s face.

"I understand." Quizen hummed as he walked towards the stairs, "I’ll just put this in my room. Wait here, Coco."

Coco didn’t respond to his words and turned to Heiren, watching him bring out the vegetables he picked and mumble something under his breath.

"Are you going to eat breakfast with us?" Zaque asked, making Coco and Heiren snap their heads to look at him.

Coco scratched her cheek and laughed nervously. "No, I’m not planning to stay. I only helped them with the bags. I don’t want to impose because Quizen, Heiren, and Alhai are uncomfortable around me."

At the very least, Coco knows that Zaque feels at ease in her presence so she doesn’t have a problem with him, but for the others?

"Oh." Zaque muttered, looking dejected.

"Stay for breakfast." Heiren spoke up all of a sudden, his eyes glued to the cabbages he is holding, "You bought all of this for us so why not have breakfast with us? To compensate for the trouble you went through."

"It wasn’t trouble." Coco corrected him firmly with a shake of her head, "It’s one of my responsibilities as a wife. In fact, Coco Hughes should have done this kind of thing from the start, but refused to do so."

The two mediators visibly tensed up, their faces contorting into something unreadable.

"I’ll continue to come with Heiren to the market or any of you to where you need to be if you need me to." Coco looked away from them and scratched her cheek, "It’s the least I could do before I divorce all of you, to give the kind of treatment the four of you deserve."

"Ah, and this is the perfect opportunity to have a talk with everyone present." Coco perked up as she said those words, "I have something to say and it would be best to say it now instead of later—"

"That something must have been important for you to stay for breakfast." Another voice had cut into the conversation and stopped Coco from speaking.

Coco glanced at the staircase, her emerald irises clashing with a pair of teal colored ones.

"Just because you bought everything Heiren needs for breakfast doesn’t mean you’re welcome to this house." The third husband’s gaze was cold and scrutinizing, staring down at Coco.

"Alhai!" Zaque hissed, his eyebrows furrowing.

Instead of returning the energy he was giving her, Coco merely smiled and nodded her head.

"I know." Coco hummed out and stared back at Alhai, not backing down and just holding her head up high, "Besides, Heiren and Quizen asked me to stay for breakfast so I can’t refuse."

Alhai frowned, his gaze landing on the second husband with distaste clear on his face.

"Again, I have something important to discuss with all of you." Coco repeated what she said earlier before she was rudely cut off, "So, whether you like it or not, you will have to listen to what I have to say."

Zaque placed a hand on Coco’s arm and pulled her away from Alhai, startling her slightly.

"It’s too early for an argument, Alhai." Zaque said, his voice dripping with warning while shooting a glare at the third husband’s way.

"So, settle down."
