Chapter 102: THE GENEROUS PRINCESS

Somewhere in a certain fief.

A young lad dressed in farmer clothes whistled while carrying a large bucket filled with spoiled food. Among it was a large amount of a dish that would have been recognized by anyone in the kingdom as it was a local specialty.

The lad walked towards a trough and emptied the contents of the bucket into it.

"It is time for lunch." He yelled. His blonde hair swayed occasionally with the wind and his green eyes sparkled with the liveliness of a young man. He was tall, looked to be around seventeen years old and was quite handsome.

Not long after, a bunch of big fat pigs came running in the direction of the trough. They grunted and buried their faces in the trough.

He said to the pigs. "That is a gift from the third princess to you. My sister said so herself. She said I should expect some more in two days. The princess is quite generous."

The young lad patted one of them on the back and turned to leave. "I wonder where they got such fine amount of rotten food." He muttered.

"Rowan! Are you finished feeding those pigs? If you are, come and have your food. " A woman called out.

"I will be right there, mama!" The young lad yelled and left the pig pen.

Back at Broughton Hall.

The door to the Judging room opened and Mister Lambert entered. "Miss Aris, the examination has begun."

Aristia nodded and leaned back in her seat. They waited in silence for the thirty minutes to pass.

Thirty minutes later.

The door was quietly pushed open. Owen had arrived. He nodded at Aristia. Behind him, one of the maids from earlier came in carrying a large trolley containing the food.

The tasting began.

After that was another round of waiting for thirty minutes as the next batch of contestants began to cook.

Thirty minutes later, the food was served. This time they were a little skeptical. When it reached contestant number fifty four’s turn, almost everyone was noticeably hesitant.

Slowly, Aristia brought the spoon to her mouth. Her knitted brows relaxed. It actually... wasn’t so bad. In fact, it tasted very good.

Aristia nodded her head. It seemed the previous saltiness was a mistake. Even though it was quite a careless and serious mistake, Aristia decided to let the person off.

She would have preferred to judge the food in front of the contestants themselves and give face-to-face feedback, but she didn’t want to be discovered.

"This tastes a lot better than the last." Mrs Lambert told her husband.

"That is true." Mister Lambert nodded with a relieved smile.

The others seemed to be enlightened when they tasted the dish. They felt it was a good thing that Aristia decided to hold three rounds of the contest.

Adeline hummed proudly. As expected, her princess was the smartest!

The contest soon ended. Just like the last time, none of the food was wasted. Some entered the stomach of people and the others entered the stomach of other... creatures.

Nevertheless, there was no doubt each of them would be satisfied.

Aristia headed back home with Owen and Adeline.

There was still some time until the tea party. She got busy. Soon, her mother called for her to get ready to leave for the palace. Owen stood in front of the Mansion to see her off.

Alalric wasn’t coming with them. He had fallen asleep after watching his father train the knights.

"I will wait for you to return home,my love." Wilson kissed the back of Catherine’s hand like a gentleman.

"I will return soon." Catherine smiled gently.

"He’s acting like he’s wooing her." She mumbled underneath her breath and rolled her eyes discreetly.

"Papa, we will be back today. We are just going to the palace, not traveling. And we are not sleeping in the palace either." She said.

Wilson chuckled in amusement. His daughter had just said a long sentence for something other than her business or getting what she wanted.

The next second, his smile faded.

’Wooing? Who taught her that? It must be that boy, Owen, who is teaching my innocent daughter things like this." He narrowed his eyes.

[What’s with that expression on his face?] Aristia thought in confusion. Then, she realized what happened. [How could I forget that he possesses aura and a daemon? He has a heightened sense of hearing. Which means...]

She could guess what he was thinking as he fixed his gaze on Owen in a sharp glare.

She looked up at Catherine. "Let us go, Mama." She entered the carriage without waiting for the Grand Duchess. "Goodbye, Papa." She waved from the window and smiled innocently, leaving Owen confused as to why he was currently on the receiving end of the Grand Duke’s glare.

Adeline followed behind carrying a closed box. She placed it in the carriage on the seat beside Aristia and sat in front with the Coachman. She was going with Aristia to the palace.

The Coachman started the carriage and rode out of the Grand Duke Mansion and in the direction of the royal palace.

It was about two in the afternoon. The carriage drove through the streets of the capital and arrived at the large gates of the Royal palace.

The carriage slowed down upon entering the palace gates and stopped in front of the palace.

"Let us head in." Catherine said to Aristia.

They alighted the carriage and were about to head inside the palace when a maid that was standing in front of the palace as if she was waiting for someone, approached them.

"Your Highness," she bowed. "Her Majesty asked that you meet her in the Royal garden."

When they arrived at the garden, they found Rowaine strolling leisurely in the garden.

"Rowaine." Catherine approached her.

"Catherine, I see you came." Rowaine turned around with a smile and held Catherine’s hand in hers.

"Good day, aunt." Aristia greeted with a smile.

"Tia, how are you?" Rowaine looked beside Catherine at Aristia’s little form that only reached Catherine’s waist. She released Catherine’s hand and gently patted her head dotingly.

"I’m fine, aunt." Aristia replied.

"Allie didn’t come with you?" Rowaine asked.

"He was asleep." Aristia replied. "I will go meet my cousins." She excused herself.

"Alright, I won’t keep you here." Rowaine shook her head. "It is almost time for the tea party to begin. Let us head back to the palace together."

They headed back to the palace. Rowaine went to change her clothes while Catherine waited for her, and Aristia headed towards the twins’ wing of the palace.

As soon as she entered the palace, she crossed paths with Sienna, Serina’s personal maid. Sienna stopped in surprise upon seeing Aristia in the palace.

She bowed quickly. "Your Highness, I will inform the princesses of your arrival." She turned to head back to the princesses’ rooms.

"There is no need for that. I will go to them myself." Aristia stated and resumed her steps.

She knocked lightly on the door to Beatrix’s room and pushed it open.

"Sienna, are you back so soon?" Serina asked and turned towards the door. "Tia? You’re here!"

"Tia?" Beatrix turned around from her seat on the chaise lounge in front of the large window in the room. She put down the book in her hand.

"Hello." Aristia waved and walked further into the room. Her cousins had already stood up and approached her.

"You came for the tea party!" Serina said with excitement.

The queen was hosting a tea party for noblewomen and their daughters. This was to create an opportunity for her daughters, who barely left the palace, to socialize.

She and Beatrix were the hosts of the children’s tea party and were excited, especially since Aristia came.

"Of course, I did." Aristia replied. How could she not come? This was another essential part of her plan.

"I received your letter." Beatrix said. "I have already informed Rosa and Sienna of what to do."

They had received Aristia’s letter and had thought she wouldn’t come. They had found out that Aristia did not like attending tea parties so they were glad she came to theirs.

Just then, someone knocked on the door. "Princesses, it is time for the banquet to begin. The young ladies from the invited aristocrat families have arrived." Rosalind announced with a bow.

"We will be right there."

The children headed to the location of the tea party. It was the royal garden. The Queen was also hosting her tea party in the garden but it was on another side of the garden.

When they arrived at the garden, they saw that the aristocrat girls had indeed arrived just as Rosalind had said.

"Your Highness." The girls stood up and bowed, then sat back in their seats.

The royal children took their seats on the rectangular table. Beatrix sat down at the head of the table. Aristia and Serina took a seat at her left and right.

The other children were sat down according to their ranks.

There were about ten girls invited to the tea party. Five of them were from the pure noble families and three were from the minor noble families. Their parents belonged to the two Duchesses’s factions and the Neutral faction.

The remaining two were just from aristocrat families.

They were all between the ages of five and ten.

The royal family was not known for supporting any faction. But the aristocrats knew that they had a close relationship with some families in a certain faction.

"Thank you all for accepting our invitation and attending this tea party." Beatrix started, looking around the table. "I hope everyone will enjoy it."

"It is our pleasure, Your Highness. Thank you for inviting us to your tea party." The noble children smiled and bowed.

Aristia smirked. The tea party would soon begin, and with its commencement came her plan.
