Chapter 103: GENEROUS ROYAL FAMILY

Adeline, Rosalind and Sienna came forward and served the tea, filling each of the teacups of the young aristocrat ladies. They then returned to standing at a distance to give the young girls some privacy.

The tea party began.

"Princesses, I am so honored to have been invited to your tea party." One of the older noble girls from the minor noble family said. She was from a Count family.

The other girls followed with words of appreciation, agreeing with the girl’s words.

"The Royal garden is very beautiful, Princess Beatrix." Priscilla Essylt said amidst the conversation.

Paige Kiran rolled her eyes. Priscilla Essylt was speaking like she hadn’t seen the royal garden on the day of the banquet. Hadn’t she said the same then?

She didn’t like Priscilla Essylt at all. She had a pretentious character. She was always calling everyone ’brother’ or ’sister’.

Aristia saw this scene from the corner of her eyes.

"Yes, it is the most beautiful garden I have ever seen." It was a girl from the second generation noble families. She was from a Viscount family.

Aristia lowered her hand behind the table and waved discreetly. Behind her, Adeline turned around and left with Rosalind and Sienna. None of the girls present noticed it.

In the middle of their conversation, when the tea cups had almost been emptied, Adeline, Rosalind and Sienna again approached the table. They were carrying trays of covered dishes.

They placed them on the table and arranged plates and cutlery in front of the children as if they were about to have a meal.

The girls started murmuring to themselves.

"I wonder what that is." A girl whispered to the person seated beside her.

Beatrix smiled and provided an answer. "This is a gift sent to these princesses by someone very special." As she said it, her eyes stopped for a brief second at Aristia. She looked away the next second and continued, "I have decided to share it."

Beatrix didn’t lie. It indeed was a gift, but not only to Beatrix and Serina, but to all the members of the Royal family. Beatrix just happened to be hosting a tea party and therefore Aristia decided to make her use the opportunity to help her little cousin.

Gasps sounded out in the garden. Another gift that the Royal family was sharing. The royal family was very generous!

"We are honoured, Princess, to be on the receiving end of this gift." They lowered their heads and bowed in gratitude while anticipating what it would be.

The maids uncovered the plates and as expected, another round of gasps sounded out.

"This looks so delicious." A girl blurted out.

The other children agreed.

"I haven’t seen this type of snack before." Another whispered.

"Should that be your concern?" Another asked.

"That is why it is a gift to the Princesses." Another reasoned.

"Why should you argue about it? I just want to take a bite." Another girl replied them.

Beatrix introduced. "This is called a Cupcake. It is a snack that I hope everyone will enjoy. Everyone should try it."

The maids put a cupcake on a plate in front of each of the girls.

The cupcakes were very enticing, after all. Especially since they were topped with cream and sprinkled a light dose of sugar. They were like little cakes, but in the shape of a cup. Aristia had tried her best to give the icing a similar layered round shape with the limited equipment in this world.

Adeline had baked the cupcake according to her directions and she had put the cream on it.

On hearing the first Princess’s words to partake of the snack, the children picked up their forks and cut through their cupcake.

After taking a bite, the girls erupted in praise.

"This is very delicious." Lauren said to herself but Aristia heard her. She was sitting beside her, after all.

"I have never tasted anything like it." Alicia said. She was sat opposite Aristia.

Aristia wanted to chuckle at how their words matched with that of the first two girls that spoke earlier.

In no time, the plates had been emptied, leaving nothing but crumbs to tell about it. The girls wanted to pick the crumbs if not for etiquette and the fact that they were in the palace and had an image to maintain.

The servants came forward and served the tea but the girls’ interest was on the snack they had just eaten.

One of the girl’s eyes lit up with a thought. Could the very special someone the first princess was talking about the same person that gifted the queen the unforgettable deliciousness called doughnuts?

She lifted her head.

"Is the special someone who gifted the princesses the same as the person who gifted her Majesty?"

At her words, murmurs rang out across the table.

"That sounds very likely." Lauren said to Aristia.

"Hehe," Aristia could only laugh.

"It makes sense now that I think about it," another girl muttered.

They all turned to Beatrix and Serina who had been given the gift.

"Princesses, is it the same person?"

Beatrix and Serina smiled silently.

The girls could only drop the subject since the princess didn’t seem to have any intention of saying anything.

"Thank you for coming to my tea party. I hope you all found it enjoyable." Beatrix rose and said.

"Thank you for inviting us, Princesses."

"Yes. We enjoyed the tea party and the snack."

"We hope to attend the princesses’ tea party again."

The tea party had ended.

Aristia returned to the palace with Beatrix and Serina, and the little girls from the aristocrat households returned to their various homes.

After the tea party, Catherine and Aristia returned home.

After that day, word spread about the generosity of the Royal family to share their exquisite gifts with their subjects, and of the delicious snack they had eaten in the royal palace. It became a center of wistful discussion whenever they gathered as they all wished to have a chance to taste such food again.

Everyone was wondering just who it was that prepared such delicious snacks as gifts to the royal family. But, their search proved futile as no one knew who the mysterious person was and they had no way of knowing unless the person or the royal family revealed it.

The other girls who weren’t invited could only listen enviously as they had no chance to taste or even see the snack. They could understand as the Queen had only sent out invitations to a select few to attend her daughters’ tea party.

They just wished they would be art of those invited the next time the Queen would arrange a tea party for her daughters.

However, a nasty rumour soon spread in the Capital.

"Those people are foolish," Adeline complained bitterly.

Aristia sighed. "Don’t mind them, Linny. I’m just so popular." She flipped her hair, trying to get Adeline to cheer up. She had to be popular for people to be talking about her so much, no?

But she was confused. Wasn’t she supposed to be a loved princess? Loved and adored by all and sundry.

Then how come what was happening was different from how it should be?

After the tea party, she had been celebrating how her plan to draw the desire of others had succeeded. The aristocrat girls would definitely spread the words about the delicious food they had been served at the palace by a ’special someone’.

What she hadn’t expected, though, was that someone would spread rumours, saying how the princesses had received a gift but she hadn’t.

That word spread quickly, and gained clout just as quickly. Most of the people agreed. Why had the princesses been gifted and she hadn’t? It was obviously because she was too unlikable!

[Me? Unlikable?!] Aristia thought in bemused disbelief. [How dare those shitheads! I’m the most likeable person they’ll ever know!!]

"It’s clearly the princess who gifted the gift to the first and second princesses." Adeline gritted her teeth.

Thinking about it made Aristia want to laugh. "Do they want me to gift myself?"

"It must be someone who attended the tea party." Owen said suddenly, looking up from Aristia’s vanity table he was leaning on.

"What?" Aristia asked.

Owen looked at her and repeated. "It must be one of the young ladies who attended the tea party that spread such rumours."

Aristia nodded. Of course she knew that.

It might have just been a curious speculation on the person’s part that grew into a rumour when others heard it and spread it because it seemingly made sense. Or... the girl had genuinely wanted to say such things about her. Or maybe it was a servant that couldn’t hold back from talking stupidly.

"Whatever, that’s up to whoever it is. I don’t have time to deal with gossips that won’t affect me." Aristia shrugged.

Saying that she was not considered important by the ’very special person’ that had gifted the princesses? Bullshit! She knew she was important.

And wasn’t it funny that she was the ’very special person’ that didn’t consider herself important enough to give herself a gift?

***

Time moved quickly and a week had passed after the third round of the culinary examination.

Aristia had not left the mansion throughout the week and had Owen keep her updated on what was happening.

No, it wasn’t because of the rumours, but it was because she just didn’t want to leave the mansion.

The rumours about her had quickly died down and was replaced by talk about the culinary examination.

Both the commoners who had participated in the examination and those who hadn’t were awaiting news. But nothing was heard concerning who passed and who hadn’t.

Almost every discussion centered around the examination and the lack of news following its end. Some who hadn’t participated laughed at those who had, saying that they had wasted their efforts for no gain.

However, the next day, something unexpected happened.
