Chapter 107: Chapter 107 Work Allocation
After some time explaining, the priest finally understood Nicole’s meaning.
The investigator’s office hadn’t planned to give up on Seraphis, nor did they wish for there to be more victims here. It was just that the situation in the city had grown extremely severe, and only under reluctant circumstances had the investigator’s office called back personnel who were out on missions to Berlenwich.
After the conversation ended, the priest sat in his chair and pondered for nearly fifteen minutes.
In the end, a somewhat desolate expression appeared on the man’s face.
"I understand."
"However, once the matters in Berlenwich are dealt with, I hope you can come to handle the issues here as soon as possible, since this is after all only a small town."
Nicole solemnly nodded, her expression meticulous as she spoke,
"No problem, I assure you in the Queen’s name."
"Just as the city’s issues..."
Just as the young investigator was about to make her promise, a calm male voice suddenly rose from the entrance of the church:
"Nicole, what are you fussing about over there?"
"It’s rare for you to make a promise in the Queen’s name."
Hearing the voice, the three people inside the church immediately turned to look.
Just there, at the church’s wide-open doors, three figures in similarly large coats and hats were walking in. Although their clothes were somewhat disheveled and they clearly bore injuries, these three men were undoubtedly investigators.
Because the man who just spoke was none other than Ronald, whom Willard and Nicole had been looking for!
It’s worth noting that among the three investigators, the one at the back was carrying an unconscious man. Considering their activities in this town, it was quite easy to discern their situation.
—Their mission was likely accomplished.
"Mr. Willard!"
Seeing the three investigators entering, before Nicole could respond, the priest already got up from his chair to greet them, his tone and expression extremely excited:
"I... I truly..."
"Do you mean..."
"Alright, Mr. Conni," Willard said, patting the excited priest on the shoulder, and then pointing to the man being carried behind him, "We’ve captured this guy, you can rest assured now."
"No one in Seraphis will become a victim again."
"..."
The priest was speechless.
Standing there, his body trembling with excitement, he struggled to suppress his elation to speak clearly:
"I... I’m really grateful!"
"The children of Seraphis may not understand, but... but I..."
Willard had encountered many similar situations before.
As one of the few who knew the mystical side, individuals who bore the truth alone often placed great pressure on themselves, and the priest’s reaction was fairly normal.
With a kindly smile, he immediately began to reassure the priest:
"It’s alright, this is what our investigators do."
"No need for that."
The priest nodded, his face cooling from excitement:
"I... I understand."
Seeing the priest calm down, Willard then turned his gaze towards Nicole.
Looking at the pair who had rushed over from Berlenwich, his tone immediately grew more serious:
"If I recall correctly, the message I left at the office was to not make any other preparations for a week. Nicole, you’ve come a bit early."
"Now it’s not about whether it’s too early or not." Nicole shook her head, there being no need for reservations among colleagues from the investigator’s office, she straightforwardly explained, "This morning, our investigator’s building was blown up. If we don’t gather people to go back, who knows what kind of trouble might arise!"
"Blown up?"
Willard’s eyes lifted, clearly taken aback by the answer.
"Nicole, don’t joke with me about this kind of thing."
"Who dares to bomb the building of our investigation bureau?"
"Why would I joke about such a thing? Am I asking for trouble?" The investigator shrugged helplessly, then pointed to Ronald behind her. "Besides, the first eyewitness to the scene is right here."
"Actually, it’s quite a coincidence, yesterday I was at..."
As Nicole approached Willard, she began to recount the events that had occurred in Berlinwich while he was away.
With each event she described, from the investigator’s night raid on the cult Magicians to the counterattack launched that morning, Willard’s expression darkened rapidly.
Once everything was said, this tall man stood still, but the oppressive and angry emotions he emitted were palpable to everyone present.
Particularly, the priest named Conni inside the church felt intimidated by Willard’s aura. His prior fervor had completely vanished, leaving only reverence in his eyes for the man before him.
"..."
The silence in the church lasted for over a minute before Willard managed to control his fury.
Then, the investigator began to issue commands to those present:
"Nicole, you and I will take a carriage and head back to Berlinwich first."
"Given the situation in the city, we are the most needed there immediately."
Having said that, Willard then turned to the two behind him:
"George, you and Hajins either hire a carriage or walk back, but watch the prisoner closely and make sure to get back to Berlinwich before nightfall."
After instructing these two, Willard’s gaze finally rested on Ronald.
Without any hesitation, he straightforwardly spoke:
"Ronald, right?"
"I’ve already taken care of the main problems in Selsey, but there’s still some mopping up to do. You handle it here."
As he spoke, Willard stepped forward and tucked something cold into Ronald’s arms:
"Keep this with you. If anyone from the mystical side tries to obstruct you, or some fool comes over to interfere, handle them directly."
After saying this, Willard turned and walked toward the church entrance:
"Nicole, let’s depart immediately!"
"No problem!"
Echoing Willard, Nicole gave Ronald an encouraging thumbs up, then followed out.
They left the church one after the other and jumped into the carriage.
Their figures soon disappeared from everyone’s view.
"...."
Standing still and stunned for a moment, Ronald finally looked down at his hands.
The cold object passed by Willard was a revolver.
At first glance, its design and size were no different from the one Nicole had used before, likely mass-produced on the same production line.
So now...
Was he a gunman now?
At that moment, the remaining two investigators also took action.
As Hajins was inconvenienced by carrying the unconscious criminal, it was George who went out to hire a carriage.
Hajins, left inside the church with the criminal, looked up at Ronald:
"Ronald, let me explain the remaining mop-up work to you."
"After all, you’re new here and probably not very familiar with the situation."
