Chapter 365: Alchemists’ Research
Chapter 365: Alchemists’ Research
After witnessing Magnus’ memories, I was thinking hard about a way to cleanse the brainwashing spell from the imprisoned warrior.
There was something that made certain northerners immune to the effects of mind control, but I couldn’t tell what it was.
Feeling stumped on the subject, I decided to send a voice message to Reinar and Jen, thinking that they could help me come up with an idea.
When I explained the situation to them, the next message they sent was asking to bring them to The Pit so that they could take a look in person.
They had a magic quartz in the treehouse at End Forest, so all I needed to do was place a new one here, and I could bring them with me. Still, I wasn’t sure if that was the safest idea.
Even so, having a contingency plan for evacuating the people inside The Pit in case of emergencies would have been good, so I thought that setting up the magic quartz could be pretty useful either way.
The two alchemists promised me that they would study the brainwashing spell and return to End Forest as soon as possible, so I complied and told them to get ready with the warmest clothes they had.
I placed the magic quartz on the ninth floor since it seemed like the safest area and used it to quickly travel to End Forest to pick up the two alchemists.
The two of them were wearing so many layers of sweaters that they could barely move their arms around, which I thought was pretty funny.
After letting out a nice chuckle, I helped them out and cast a warming spell in their winter clothing, allowing them to travel a bit lighter.
One of the first things we did was show them around The Pit, but Reinar and Jen weren’t that interested in touring around and simply looking at the imprisoned warrior.
When we got to the tenth floor, the man started to flail his arms and tried to attack us again.
I told them about the effect that the holy panacea had on the man for a brief moment, and they asked me to recreate it, so we had to feed the brainwashed warrior another potion for the alchemists to look at the effect for themselves.
Once again, the warrior stopped moving for a few seconds while the glint in his eyes appeared again, only to be wiped a few seconds later as he returned to his crazed state.
"Hmmm, are you thinking the same as me, Reinar?" Jen asked as she stared at the manic warrior with a hand holding her chin.
"I think so..." Reinar replied, turning his head to look at me.
"Ichiro, what do you know about your holy panacea?" he asked.
The question was a bit strange since I was the one who invented those potions, but in reality, I didn’t know much about their effects.
The only reason these panaceas even existed was because I was bored in the forest trying to make something from the ingredients I found, so it wasn’t like I studied all of the herbs and mixed them based on their chemical components.
Reinar and Jen could make the panaceas themselves at this point in time, and since they were true alchemists, they actually tried to study the science behind the potions I taught them to make.
In their research, they discovered that the holy panacea had an effect on a person’s blood, which was why it was able to cure illnesses, heal wounds inside the body, and even regenerate entire limbs.
Nevertheless, it had almost zero effect on a person’s mind, which was why it wasn’t fully cleansing the brainwashing from the warrior.
"So, could there be a way to tweak the holy panacea into having a stronger effect on a person’s mind rather than their blood?" I asked.
The two alchemists shared a look with each other and smiled, saying that it was definitely possible.
After that, I asked for their opinion on the fact that some of the northerners were immune to the mind-controlling spell.
I believed that if we found out their secret, we could devise a way to give the rest of the people that immunity. Nonetheless, the two alchemists shrugged and said that it seemed like a job for a sage.
’I’m pretty sure the other sages are busy at the moment...’ I thought.
Once Reinar and Jen had a good idea of what we were trying to cure, I brought them back to End Forest so they could start working on a new version of the holy panacea.
Meanwhile, I kept racking my brain, trying to come up with a reason as to why some of these warriors were immune to the demons’ brainwashing.
That night, I asked Bjorn and Magnus to accompany me to the tenth floor, as nobody went down there.
It was a pretty big area—as long as we stayed on the opposite side from the imprisoned warrior, it was the most spacious area in The Pit.
I brought Vespera along with me since she had a pretty good grasp on magic, so I knew that her counsel on this matter would be helpful.
Vespera asked the warriors if they utilized magic, but they replied by saying that they didn’t cast spells. However, they learned how to use their MP to improve their bodies’ defense and attack power.
There were small towns in the northern continent where most of the inhabitants were "true northerners," and it was part of their culture to learn how to fight from a very young age.
Their martial arts used axes and swords, but the interesting part was that they were taught how to control their MP in order to give themselves a strength boost.
My companion told me to focus on looking at their MP, and as my mind went blank, I noticed that their bodies were covered in a layer of energy that seemed like it was getting compacted around them.
"What’s this? It’s like they are covered in a thin layer of MP, but somehow, it feels very thick..." I muttered to my companion.
"I think that might be the secret to their immunity..." Vespera replied.
’Huh, I think I get it...’
