My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 331: The Pink Capital of Lotus

Chapter 331: The Pink Capital of Lotus

It was our first day arriving at the nation of Lotus, located on the northern side of the eastern continent, having only Kyotora as their neighbor.

We were able to teleport there thanks to Yuki, who sent Keiko’s family a couple of magic quartz that they placed inside their castle.

When our group teleported there, we appeared inside a room that was covered with pink leaves that looked like a larger kind of cherry blossom.

The room was fully lit up by the windows that reflected the light from outside, hitting the pink leaves and covering the room in a warm pink glow.

"Melina, Ichiro!" we heard Keiko calling us.

The blue-haired princess came down a set of stairs with two guards behind her and gave us a greeting hug, looking happier than ever.

Keiko knew that we were going to arrive in Lotus that day since we sent her a voice message, but she wasn’t aware of what we needed to do there.

The Lotus family didn’t go to the festival in Guanghua, not because they didn’t want to but because they had no instant way to travel there and back like the others.

Of course, we changed that the moment we arrived and left a magic quartz that was linked to Guanghua, but it probably wouldn’t be used for some time.

Princess Keiko was tasked with greeting us and showing us around before we could meet with the royal family. Still, I thought it was a bit unnecessary.

Lotus wasn’t a big country. As such, it didn’t have as many towns as the other nations we had visited.

Apart from the capital, there were four other towns and four small settlements where worker families lived.

The first thing that Keiko did was take us to our guest rooms—one for me and Melina, one for the battle-maids, and a third one for Nessa.

The castle at Lotus was very similar in aesthetics to the one in Kyotora, sharing an ancient Japanese facade that gave it an elegant feeling.

I noticed that the wood and stone that were used for the castle had a purple coloring on them, and when I asked what kind of materials were used on the construction, Keiko explained that the coloring happened due to the pink light that reflected on it for years.

The large cherry blossom leaves that we saw when we arrived were from a tree they called "Pink Life," and apparently, it was able to turn certain materials pinkish after reflecting light on them for a long time.

Pink life grew all over Lotus, so it was common for the citizens to have one inside their homes as they believed it brought them good luck and health.

I was still curious about it, so I inspected one of the pink life leaves.

<Pink Life Leave

Grows on pink life trees.

When illuminated, they produce healthy fumes that increase metabolism.

When in full darkness, they produce a toxic fume.>

"Huh, they can be toxic too..." I said aloud, wondering if we would be poisoned at night.

However, Keiko elaborated and said that the moonlight also kept the pink leaves from becoming poisonous, and the "full darkness" referred to places like caves where no light could reach those trees.

After satiating our curiosity, Keiko told us that her family would meet with us the next day, so we had some time to explore.

We took a stroll around the capital, and honestly, it was one of the prettiest places we had seen.

The houses looked like they were made by artisans, as even the poorest commoners lived inside elegant homes that were covered by pink leaves.

We saw a person who was going around giving people a piece of papyrus with the news of Guanghua’s freedom, so we knew that this country wasn’t deprived of information from the outside world.

When we got to a restaurant, Keiko invited us inside, saying that it was one of the best in town, and we were given the best table available since she was the princess.

As we drank some green tea, Melina asked Keiko how things were going with her family.

Keiko was in a position similar to Yuki, where her family neglected her for a long time after her concubine mother died. In fact, you could say it was a bit worse since Yuki’s mother was still alive, at least.

However, after her performance at the world’s tournament, her father made her one of the main heirs to the throne.

While this was great for her since it changed the way everyone in the castle treated her, it also made her older brother hate her even more than before.

Her brother, the first prince of Lotus, was a 25-year-old man by the name of Minato, and Keiko hadn’t told us a single good story about him.

From what she told us, Minato bullied everyone in the castle ever since they were little kids as a way to prove that he was the superior child to take the throne.

Now that he had a competitor, he felt even more threatened than before, and his treatment of Keiko and the rest of her siblings got worse.

We were going to be meeting with the king, queen, and the prince the next day, so Melina and I were going to asses the man with our own eyes.

That night, after we returned to our rooms in the castle, I asked Vespera to travel to one of the towns and place a magic quartz. She wasn’t going to be sleeping that night anyway, so she happily agreed.

The closest town to the capital was called Kiyokawa, and it would only take Vespera a few hours to get there if she went flying.

After she had the magic quartz in hand, she opened a window and flew out of the room, leaving Melina and me alone.

’Wait, we are alone now...’ I thought, shooting a glance at Melina, who was lying on the bed.

However, when I looked closer, she was utterly fast asleep, so I just smiled and covered her with the blankets before joining her in her slumber.
