My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 317: The Superior Demonoid
Chapter 317: The Superior Demonoid
The sun was setting on the horizon of the Guanghua fields, and our army was marching towards the capital.
We had surrounded the entire city with our army, and the first objective was to free the commoners in the outskirts so that Vyrazul wouldn’t use them as collateral.
Once the tall walls became visible in the distance, Melina and I flew up into the sky and started making our way to destroy their defenses.
We were the only ones who weren’t leading a squadron, but it was the best option as we were going to be flying around all over the battlefield.
I noticed that it wasn’t a full moon that night, so I wasn’t counting on Yoru’s buff for that encounter.
Melina and I were wearing our ponchos as we were done with our disguises, and we felt much more comfortable with our usual clothes.
We approached the walls while flying as high as we could so that they wouldn’t see us and came up with an idea to destroy their defenses quickly.
"I’ll land on one side, and you land on the other. If we both use lightning magic, we could take down those catapults in a few minutes..." I said to Melina.
However, as soon as I explained my train of thought, I noticed a massive, shadowy arrow flying towards us, making us maneuver in the air to avoid it.
The projectile flew so fast in between us that the force pushed us back a little, and when I looked down, I spotted a figure flying at high speeds towards us.
"Sinoc..." I muttered as I could sense his demonic energy increasing.
We couldn’t stop our plan, so Melina launched herself down at the walls to start taking down the catapults while I went straight for the evil mage.
Still suspended high in the air, our fists collided and created an explosion around us. At that moment, I noticed that Sinoc had two horns coming out of his head, and his demonic energy felt more powerful than the first time I had met him.
Nonetheless, I couldn’t care less about his looks as Leslie’s memories flooded my head once again as soon as I saw him.
After a quick exchange of punches and parries, we split for a brief moment.
"So, was it worth it?" I asked, taking out my bo and clenching it tightly.
Sinoc didn’t reply and simply grinned his teeth, showing me the two fangs that he had grown.
"You were Sage Astra’s pupil... So, was it worth it to leave that behind for a devil?" I asked again.
For the first time since I met him, Sinoc showed a sliver of emotion and smiled wickedly at me while raising his arms to the side.
"Yes, yes, yes! Can you not feel this power!? This is what true power feels like!" he shouted maniacally.
’That’s not even his power...’ I thought.
Our army was starting to take control of the outskirts as Melina was exploding all of the catapults at the top of the wall, so it was only a matter of time before our soldiers started flooding inside the city.
Sinoc’s arms were covered in shadows and turned into long scimitar blades before launching himself at me in a crazed state. Still, I kept my calm and avoided his attacks with my bo.
We were slowly going down as we kept attacking each other, but none of our attacks was direct enough to hurt us severely.
At one point, his demonic energy increased tenfold in a brief second while he punched me in the gut, sending me crashing down into an abandoned house inside the capital.
If it weren’t for the enchantment on my poncho, that attack would have broken some of my bones, but I managed to stand up with a few bruises and scratches after going through the roof.
Still, Sinoc wasn’t done, and when I looked up through the hole that I made with my body, I saw a massive shadow orb coming down.
The sphere was as large as the house I was in, so I quickly surrounded myself with a barrier and used earth magic to make a dome around me for more protection.
When the shadow attack landed, I felt extreme pressure, as if someone was using gravity magic on me, but I couldn’t see what was happening outside since I was inside my little dome.
As the pressure on my body dissipated, I removed the dome and noticed that the entire house had been utterly erased from existence.
’Did he use shadow magic to disintegrate everything in it?’ I pondered.
But I couldn’t think for too long as he crashed down at that same instant with his bladed arms, making me raise my bo over my head to protect myself and generating another wake that rose the ground around us.
"Do you see now!?" Sinoc shouted as our weapons were still colliding, making me wave my bo to the side to separate him from me.
"I see it. It’s not that impressive..." I replied.
"What!?" Sinoc shouted back, but I cut him off as I cast gravity magic around his body to slow down his movements.
Using lightning magic to appear right in front of him, I charged my bo with phoenix fire. "This is real power," I muttered, hitting him in the stomach as if I were using a baseball bat and sending him flying head-first into another abandoned house.
I took out my adamantite short-sword and prepared myself to finish him off, when suddenly, I felt an eerie presence right behind me, followed by a loud sound and a slight wind that blew my hair from the back.
When I turned around, I saw Yoru in his beastkin form, holding Minotaur, who was going to attack me from behind with a spiked bat.
Thankfully, Yoru was my shadow, so no surprise attack could catch me as long as he was with me.
"You got it?" I asked my companion as we stood back to back.
["I got it."] He replied telepathically while nodding.
"Let’s end this quickly and regroup with Melina, then..."
